    For those who don't understand, Drunk style has really strong and simple counters that are really difficult to deal with if you aren't used to fighting them, and close to impossible to deal with when fighting someone who is actually very practiced in the game

    For anyone unaware of what is going on, the opponent is just using low-tier cheese. He mashes out super armor moves the moment he gets hit, so there isn't ever a trade of turns. Whatever pressure could have been applied from our side is instantly turned into defense because of how abusive super armors(and the side evasion of drunk style) can be.
    Imagine playing guilty gear or blazblue but your opponent has unlimited burst.
    Mortal Kombat, but your opponent has unlimited breakers.
    It isn't that they can't be beaten, it's just that it is not fun.
    What we saw here was an inexperienced drunken style trying to beat an experienced windfall by exploiting a gimmick, and failing.
    This match was fun for nobody.

      I think what was wrong was bucket head was using a particular series of attacks that are very niche to block or avoid, primarily charged attacks. Most new players just focus on blocking attacks and trading blows, and charged attacks completely dumpster stamina when blocked, making it easy to break through defences. If you're up against someone who knows the timing of charged attacks, you can't win because you don't have any good openers, but against most new players, it's an easy stomp.

    Can confirm. As an Absolver player, it’s SO much harder to deal with Drunken Fist moves when you’re just starting out. You really need to learn to start reading moves and defending carefully before it gets easier to fight players with moves like that

  • @TheGreyAngelic
    @TheGreyAngelic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    What really bothers me about this is that the drunken style user isn't even taking advantage of how drunken really works in this game, successful forward style action with stagger gives a 12+frame bonus to a lot of moves and the side style actions are easily chainable to gather stamina since stagger gains stamina regen bonuses that collect as you perform perfect dodges, and the back style stagger can be in niche situations feinted to continue said stamina regen gain. A lot of people don't know this, unfortunately this makes a lot of people who pick the style up at first, think that stagger is just some super aggressive style that you can just mash into hella hard and just continuously pressure the enemy with, but its real strength really comes from being sudden, you wanna be *suddenly aggressive* and take advantage of burst of stamina, play defensively, chain a few evasions and then start pressuring your enemy, and for the love of god stop spamming charge attacks, that shit might work on a new player using any style tbh as a lot of new players don't know how to answer them. Each charge has an answer, some are easier depending on the style you are playing, I'd say wind and faej certainly have the easier options, but unfortunately, new players won't know this and as most fighting games have proven aggressive characters tend to be the hardest for new players to learn to fight against because aggression tends to win a battle against someone who is genuinely trying to read take advantage of mistakes (but said person isn't experienced enough to do so so its a down hill battle from there)

    • @ForticusKrorkenstein
      @ForticusKrorkenstein ปีที่แล้ว

      This was a great explanation. I've recently picked the game up and noticed that. Drunken style seems to be a much less defensively based style than the Khalt method. I noticed that by staying just out of measure and using short, Burst combos, is the way to play Khalt. I have no idea about others though. Drunken fist looks like an even more mobile version of Khalt without the absorption and I'm excited to try it.

    • @TheGreyAngelic
      @TheGreyAngelic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ForticusKrorkenstein Another big tip using stagger, learn to feint your style actions, the forward stance option, the back action and the two twist can be cancelled and they really shine in this, a lot of people like to go for the hits built into them but the hits do little damage and tbh don't chain well into a lot of attacks, an amazing Stagger style can chain several feints together an on opponents string, get a SHIT TON of stamina regen since they stack with each other and then start going on the offensive especially if you have the stamina advantage, at that point your like a whirlwind, you can throw bunch of attacks without worrying about abotu your stamina depleting super fast and your opponent pretty much HAS to weather it, there's also a mindgame element to feinting your stance moves as Stagger, the back stagger especially as the attack that come sout from it very slow, but if oyu are on it you can back stagger stance option into a feint and quickly throw out a 10-12f jab and its actually WAY faster then the actual hit that comes from it. The hit is useful i that the range is very tricky and can catch some people off guard who aren't watching their footsies

      His opponent is using a style that can be a nuisance to deal with and is easy for less skilled players to pick up on, but nearly impossible to counter in the hands of a skilled one. The style includes some get out of jail free cards that can be difficult to wrap your head around as a new player. In this case they know how to deal with this kindof playstyle so it does not seem like much is going on here, but if you pit their opponent against a newer player the gap becomes more visible. Man, I used to adore this game and still enjoy watching it, but the poor balance decisions actually made the game worse in many aspects further down the line and now that they've abandoned it altogether I just can't bring myself to go back. Once they gutted Khalt I was out because that was the style I put literally thousands of hours into and the only one that really fit my playstyle and deck. Then there was all the changes to frame data and specifically giving alot of moves a silly amount of + frames leading to the combat just losing that fast pace and fluidity it started with and ending up with fights like in this video - slow, tedious and clunky feeling.
    I'm looking forward to Sifu but I'm gutted that there isn't a PvP alternative. I so, so hope that once Sifu is out, it's successful enough that Devolver or even another studio will pick up this combat and deck building system and balance it properly into the game it deserves.

I spent a while after release getting "good" at the game and learned how to fight with my guy, beat the main little story then needed to grind pvp. It was just full of this fighting style with them exploiting a fast hard ti counter conbo that could besily open you up for a deadly punish. Follow that with lots of bad internet connecetion, idk if it has ever been the game or me, it's not really fun. I got into it again for a few weeks last year and it was fun until I tried to grind pvp again.

    The Drunken style is stupidly powerful for no reason and absurdly easy to use. A lot of players will dwell in newbie areas, usually naked, and murder anyone who walks by just for laughs. The style is hard to play against if you aren't experienced in the game just yet and leads to people quitting before getting to a point they could deal with it. Even if you defeat the trolling player, they'll just respawn and hunt you down as they have nothing better to do but cause rage quits and misery. You'd only spend your time fighting a troll instead of enjoying the game.

    Bruh why's everyone in the comments so salty, like just get good, it's not that hard, if they go for an attack you have 4 options; block, circle dodge (idk what it's actually called I just call it that cause that's the button on PS4), special dodge/parry (windfall, drunk stumble, etc.) Or retaliation with a faster attack. And for the love of God fuckin pay attention to your damn stamina, most of the skill issue people seem to have is with the stamina, cause stamina is how you use everything, literally max it out, I recommend leveling it to 25 cause that's the last meaningful increase to the stamina total, my main is set up with 9-8-25-25-17 (low str and dex cause I use higher damage moves) and try to keep your mobility between 20 and 25 (mobility isn't as good as it sounds but like everything in this game, it IS necessary), drunk style and windfall are noob traps, they're really good, but you'll plateau late game (which is really just early game depending on who you ask and how you wanna play) if you don't try khalt, faejin, and forsaken, trust me, switch up your combat deck too, if you notice that people are dodging low a lot throw in some sweeps, if they're dodging back throw in some lunges, to the side? Give me a good ol roundhouse. Literally just get better, not even trying to be mean or anything, it's like fighting in real life, it's easier for some yes, but at the end of the day, you're going to lose a few before you start winning them all

    I like playing absolver for all the different fighting syles. I just wish I didn't have to forcibly play pvp to be able to fight bosses again. I got to rank 10 to refight the first boss and getting to that rank alone took me a few days as every match I played I was up against somebody who was max level or double the level as me. If that wasn't a clear explanation, to put it simply I lost every match I got into. Nowadays I'm only playing the normal way and doing downfall missions because I can't win a single match. That's mainly saying I can't get good

      the absolver skill curve was always steep. minus the fact that there were only ever a couple thousand active players at any given time, you'd always see the same two dozen or so players at the top leader board each week

    wait, hold the fuck up, you're telling me people are still playing Absolver? This used to be one of my favourite games when it came out but the playerbase dwindled so very fast that I gave up on it.
    Has it gotten any updates? Are people still playing? Now I really want to check the game out again.

      The game basically hasn’t received any updates since the downfall update, Sloclap dropped the game to work on Sifu (which looks awesome). They said they MIGHT pick the game back up and give it updates after Sifu’s release, but there’s no guarantee. As for the servers, they’re doing really well on PS4 and PC for NA and EU servers, no clue about Xbox tho
