Shoes actually can change the outcome of a fight, this I can tell you from experience, when you are accustomed to fighting a certain way, a small change can really mess up how you work

It is also a detriment to a real situation. If you have only trained in a level Dojo floor or large open area, and then have to defend yourself in a different environment, it will show. This is one of the reasons, we used to practice outside on uneven ground. Also why when sparring, we were usually fairly close to one another. Fighting in a phone booth theory. And trust me, you ever have to defend yourself in close quarters, such as a bar, you appreciate that training.
