We purchased this device and it is a great companion to use in conjunction with OBS (even though I don't use OBS often). It is much easier to feed multiple sources into a single device (like this) then to send the single output into the computer for use with OBS. Otherwise you would have to use multiple USB Converters/Capture Devices to get multiple sources into a Mac and then it eats up all your USB ports (if you have enough). The one thing for sure is - there a MANY ways to accomplish the same thing and everyone has a different opinion. Having dealt with MANY Professional, Prosumer and Consumer devices over the years - this is a NICE addition to the arsenal. It is NOT an END all BE All but it certainly comes in handy in many instances. The size and features are pretty good for the price. While I agree that it would be nice to have more inputs - that also changes the size. I think 2 more inputs would be good on BOTH Versions (the V1-HD and the V1-SDI). I think both versions would be much better if they had 2 more HDMI inputs. I wish I enjoyed making video's (which I DO NOT) because I would make some to show the many situations I've used both the V1-HD and V1-SDI. They are really handy. I think Roland made a Marketing Decision with the number of inputs because If the V1-SDI had two more HDMI inputs - I would't need both Devices. The V1-SDI would cover all my needs (and most people would probably feel the same). BUT - I would have bought 2 of them so that I have a spare or can use it in another location. My suggestions for the next generation of V1-SDI would include: --2 more HDMI's --2 RJ45 Inputs (if Possible) for IP capable Camera inputs (long cable runs) --Some type of simple Camera Control --WiFi (connectivity) of some sort????? WiFi Camera Connectivity? (Even though wireless is so unreliable). I know these few things would change the size and price point but I would think they were do-able and would GREATLY add to the flexibility.
Very helpful. Especially liked that you didn't edit out the issue with the lower third keying, as this is the type of things that users may come across. I am considering the Roland versus Blackmagic ATEM. However the the Blackmagic, I have to add an SDI to HDMI converter to project live. This is an extra cost and complication and I think 4 input is enough for me, so I think I'll order this one.
How do you connect microphone to Roland equipment and what kind of microphone works. If microphone is connected through Roland, does it cover for all inputs into the Roland.?
Hay kiddo, this was fantastic. BUT, I am making a HUGE suggestion. Please keep one rolling camera on the keyboard "all" the time. This is why, you talk to doing something, but the audience can not see what you are doing. You see what you are doing and you are explaining it, but "we" can not see what you are talking about. You FINALLY show the switcher and you on the screen at the same time. That is the best way to possibly re-do this one... or to do on the next one. Good attempt.
His Sure SM58 (not a SM57 as he states) microphone is plugged into his audio mixer via an XLR cable. He's going out of his audio mixer via stereo RCA (red & white) and into the Roland via RCA.
Hey Craig, I bought this switcher and I really like it. My problem is that Roland says it supports cameras that use 1080p/1080i/720p in 59.94 Hz. My Panasonic G6 runs at 50 Hz so I get no signal through the switcher. It will show playback video from the camera, but no live feed. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might get the G6 to feed?
Two things... 1. That's NOT a SM57 it's a 58 microphone and 2. Don't shoot auto exposure on your cameras. The exposure is constantly fluctuating causing distraction and looking very amateur.
Its very good i like the video but i had a question if we are using 4 camera but not using audio mixer and want fix any one of camera audio how it is possible coz when we switch camera audio will cut with camera please solve it
You can change setting on the mixer to turn of the follow me audio. By doing this you can select the audio of just 1 of inputs. I.e the main camera or the maim audio im.
@@hendraalice1902 Each camera is different. You might need to google the camera model and "clean HDMI output" and see if you can find the setting needed in your camera. Some cameras can't give a clean output.
thank you for the video. how can I record the video and upload to youtube at a later time? i would love to record it to a unit with an SD card.. 1080P 30
Debbie Wright it looks like an 6 or 10 channel audio mixer. It’s just a mixing board to connect all of your sound devices to. The knobs on the panel look confusing but it’s really just different ways of controlling the volume.
I cant get roland to pick up the phone, so hopefully someone here can answer my question. Will this take any hdmi, more specifically DSLRs or maybe a gopro, or iPhone? haha and you got a little intense there for a moment on that 4k conversation.

the other issue with this unit id the cooling fan noise.
Hello, I have one of this but can´t find a way to reduce the brightnes of the buttons, any ideas? ty!!
How can I connect it straight to my computer for streaming
You would need an HDMI capture device.
Thanks for these videos, they are really helpful!

How were you able to keep the live feed the top buttons, and the preview the bottom buttons?
Craig Shipp do you know exactly how to change that setting?

Great video. One question. How/where does the microphone hook into the chain of hardware?

Set the Roland to 50Hz in the menu instead of 59.94Hz. All source should be the same PAL or NTSC.
Thank you so much for this. Are you familiar with the Cerevo Livewedge?

喜欢您的视频,非常有用的信息。谢谢。
Does this Roland Switcher also scale video or do all sources need to be the same resolution and frame rate/size?
Nice. does this have a automatic video source switcher so a one man show can concentrate on other things?
Nope. You need to push the buttons. I do it all the time. Not too bad.

how i can remove menu display on switcher preview? i use canon 5d mark II anda sony alpha. thanks

I love the video,. Mixer rca output to v-1hd rca input when i use that one alot of noises what happens that noise i need yr help
