    Thanks for the Demo. Is there anyway to store an image/logo and assign it to a channel? I saw the freeze button on the unit. Does that freeze the output or the selected input? (could you freeze an image on a channel and disconnect the source device?)

      Uploading or live streaming directly from your laptop would be easier than transferring the video to your phone. You could use this Magewell capture dongle to get the video from the V-1HD to your laptop. www.dvestore.com/magewell-xi100dusb-hdmi-usb-3-0-capture-dongle-used-446/ Then you need some recording/streaming software. OBS is one option. obsproject.com/

    Great little demo. I am producing an event and need to have the switcher output go to a VGA input big screen projector and house audio board AND also record the video/audio. Is there a pass through recorder that can output both?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Janet! You can get audio to the house board via the RCA Audio Outs on the back panel. You just don't want to be too far away because the unbalanced RCA cables are more prone to interference. You could record the program out with an Atomos recorder and then convert the HDMI loop-through to VGA for the projector, with something like this: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815820039

    I have an issue with the V-1HD mixer. I have two sony FDR 100 video cameras and two PTZ remote cameras plugged into the mixer. All are se to 1080p output and the Mixer to 1080p input. One of the Sony cameras works well the other a slightly older model and the two new PTZ cameras squish the output and the preview image in the vertical and sometimes has a copy of part of the image below or even above the moving image. What am I doing wrong as I would expect the roland to copy with all these cameras?

    I just flew with our V-1HD Switcher tightly packed in a road box. When I set it up to do PIP with 2 inputs, No matter what input I go to in full screen the left half of the screen is pixelated and off orientation a bit and the right half of the screen is perfectly fine. It happens with both inputs and not in separate recordings of those sources. Do you think our V-1HD was damaged by baggage handlers or TSA inspectors. I'd love to get your POV on this. Other than this issue, the V-1HD has been great for our output. Thanks

  • @LennonJCihak

    Does this unit do live video switching? I'm looking at using this device for a podcast setup with two cameras. From my understanding the cameras would go into the V-1HD, out into a capture card (such as a Magewell, like you mentioned in a previous comment), and then into my laptop. Would that setup work? Are there any programs that you recommend to record this into?
    How would you run a Rodecaster Pro's audio into this? Via the RCA inputs?
    Thank you!

    Thank you! It seems nice! :)

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Eduard: The V-1HD has two HDMI outputs; a program out and a preview out. The preview out can duplicate the program out or show fullscreen preview of the preset source; or it can show the multi-view of all the sources.

    Thanks for the great video. Because of it I pretty much followed everything you said. But i have one question I have the v-1hd and a atomos ninja 2. I want to record like you did to the ninja 2 and I tested a blu-ray player to it but it will show up on the roland, but not the ninja. the ninja just shuts down like there is no feed.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Ninja 2 will not accept 1920x1080 60p (59.94), you have to give it 1920x1080 30p (29.97). Or the problem could be HDCP. If the Blu-Ray is a commercially produced disc, it will be HDCP encrypted. The V-1HD can pass through HDCP content, but all devices in the chain must be HDCP compatible, which the Ninja 2 isn't.

    Great video,thanks for this. At 18:20 you show very quickly how to run a white luma key. We were thinking of trying out green screen broadcasting. Would green be better? Does the Roland have an option for green luma key for the effects?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Mark! When you key out green, it's called a chroma key and when you key out the dark or light parts of an image, it's called a luma key. Yes, you can do chroma keying and luma keying with the V-1HD. Luma keying is generally used to overlay graphics over video. Chroma keying is generally used to replace the background in an image or video.

    • @markcafiero1306
      @markcafiero1306 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know if there are any step-by-step instructions that exist on how to use this to overlay graphics? If not, would you be willing to type up a really quick 1-2-3 for this kind of action?

      Selecting a Compositing Effect
      1. Press the MEMORY button to display the MEMORY menu.
      2. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to select EFFECTS A or EFFECTS B.
      3. Use the A/B fader to select the compositing effect to assign to the EFFECTS A or B [ON] button.
      Compositing Using Luminance Key
      1. Follow the procedure in "Selecting a Compositing Effect" to select "WHT-L.KEY" or "BLK-L.KEY."
      2. Press the EFFECTS A (or B) [ON] button to turn on the effect (lighted).
      3. Press the [A-1] through [A-4] and [B-1] through [B-4] buttons to separately select the background and the picture you want to display in the foreground. The video on the bus at the position where you turned on the effect in step 2 is displayed in the foreground.
      4. Turn the [EFFECTS A] and [EFFECTS B] knobs to adjust the amount of effect applied. The [EFFECTS A] knob adjusts the amount of keying for the foreground video. The [EFFECTS B] knob adjusts the degree of edge blur for the foreground video.
      5. To turn off an effect, press the EFFECTS A (or B) [ON] button a second time.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Duke: You can use the luma key or chroma key effect to superimpose titles over the video. You would create the title with a black background for luma keying, or a green background for chroma keying. You can load your graphic into the switcher with the RCS application found here: proav.roland.com/global/products/v-1hd/downloads/

    Thank you for your informative video. One question, I notice the format switch. Is this only the output format? Do all hdmi inputs have to be the same format? We have a 1080I camera, and we hope we can have this flexibility with a new camera 2 (720p) as a fixed wide shot, and then the hdmi o/p of a laptop for keying.

    • @TerryPayman
      @TerryPayman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my reading of the spec, the format switch setting applies to inputs and output. All inputs must match resolution, so you can't mix 720 & 1080. You would need a 1080(p or i) camera 2, and a 1080(p or i) output from the laptop.

    I love this switcher..
    Can this switcher work with VMIX..
    If it can.. How do I set it up

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      vMix itself can act as a switcher if you use a multi-input capture card to get your cameras into the PC. However, you could do the switching on the V-1HD and just use vMix for adding graphics and streaming. In this case, you would just feed the program output of the V-1HD into your PC by using a single input capture card, or a capture dongle if you are using a laptop.

  • @SuperReelmccoy
    @SuperReelmccoy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    How long of cable do you estimate will keep full quality to the switcher. 12' ? 50'? without buying equipment that cost more than the initial cost of the Switcher. Looking up the longer runs on the lower end would run $250 X 2 = $500 per camera run.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tested 25' and 50' HDMI cables and had no problems. Make sure to use an HDMI cable rated as "high speed". I also tested a 100' HDMI cable, which would not give me a clean signal.

    • @SuperReelmccoy

    Your computer (input 2) seems to be flickering a lot, almost as if it's an interlaced signal that's not being deinterlaced properly. Is that a common problem with this mixer? Or did you just happen to have the computer set for 1080i when all the other inputs were 1080p?
    (I guess as a corollary, do all four inputs have scalers so you can use a different resolution from the output?)

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Quentin: The V-1HD does not do scaling. I believe the flickering on the computer input was solely because of the fine lines on the website.

    • @YOQishere
      @YOQishere 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I noticed the flickering too, that turns me off, is there a work around? I wouldn't want to produce something that has flickering like that.....

    • @YOQishere
      @YOQishere 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      just an update edit. I watched this again on my plasma tv, xbox 360 via youtube app and there is no flickering at all at the computer screen web browser input 2... why is that?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thought is that because you were watching it at full HD resolution, on an HD display, that the image was not subject to the scaling artifacts that can be present when the video is played in a smaller window.

    how much "scenes" can you set up? im speaking of a house of worship application and id like to have the option to have multiple scenes with different pip presets so i can switch between them with a touch of a button

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Willihelm: The V-1HD doesn't have have PiP presets, exactly; but once you set up the effects bus for PiP, it's only a matter of hitting the effects bus button to turn on the PiP. If you want to switch sources, you just select a different source with the touch of a button.

    • @Robertwread
      @Robertwread 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +MrWillihelmdueck Yes, you have 8 memory presets on the V-1HD to select different PiP options for the V-1HD. Memory preset 2 could contain 1/4 pip and 1/2 pip and then memory preset 3 could contain your split screen HS or split screen vertical settings and so on. Adjustments can be made with the value
      dials to center your subjects in the case of using the unsqueezed split screen
      effect. This is a really slick feature in case your subjects are not
      perfectly centered in your image. You can simply recall the memory preset 1 to 8 to select a different PiP with a touch of a button.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both switchers will take four HDMI sources. The ATEM TVS HD has an additional four SDI inputs. Both can be controlled from a computer; the V-1HD via a USB connection and the ATEM via a network connection. The ATEM is rack mountable, the Roland is designed for desktop use. Those are a few of the differences.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hans Madula The V-1HD does not accept 4K sources. It is an HD-only switcher. Are you referring to cameras that may be internally recording 4K, but outputting HD via HDMI into the V-1HD?

    • @hansmadula484
      @hansmadula484 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, internally like the GH4, A7SII. Will it still output HD preview when Im recording 4K internally in my camera or would it not accept any signal at all?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hans Madula I just tested the V-1HD with the GH4 recording internally at 4K 30p and the downconverted HDMI at 1080p 59.94. It works very well and lag is minimal. I would guess 2 or 3 frames. FYI, you can't record internally at 4K 23.98, because then the downconverted 1080p output via HDMI will be at 23.98 as well, which the V-1HD won't take. Also, with the GH4, the HDMI output has to be set at 8-bit. If set to 10-bit, internal recording is disabled.

    Question about the decimator or converters that you show. I tried this system and it works fine with direct HDMI output but when I use the converters to extend using hd-sdi cables there is no signal at the other end.
    Every other combination I tried works. For example if I connect a laptops HDMI to the converters through the SDI the signal goes through fine. The only issue is when the Roland is sending the output hdmi to the converters to sdi to converters to hdmi there is no signal. I tried both the decimator and regular and 4k blackmagic transmitters. Any ideas?

    Can anyone help me? I have this mixer and it works great, but for the life of me i have no idea how to add in lower thirds? My set up at the moment is the V-1HD connects via the Output into a BlackMagic Intensity USB3 shuttle, i then open the shuttle in Wirecast and i have my out put, i can use lower thirds on wirecast, but it means monitoring two programs at once. is there any way to load thirds directly into the v-1hd?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, James! In order to do lower thirds in the V-1HD, you need to feed the prepared graphic into one of the inputs and use the luma or chroma keyer to remove the background. Frankly, if you have Wirecast, you will get better results there.

    • @jameslehart3554
      @jameslehart3554 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah okay since its like boxing, mma events im filming i'd have to have everything running on the go, so yeah wirecast sounds like the better option. Thanks for the quick reply and the help, Not sure if its your area of expertise, but on Wirecast my input framerate is 25FPS i can't change it for some reason there is no option to change input settings, in V-1HD its set to 1080i50, the Blackmagic Intensity is set to 1080i50 output to. Wirecast detects that its 50FPS in the input, but it says 25fps

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are sending 1080i50, that means 50 fields, or 25 frames. Wirecast is likely just stating the frames instead of the fields.

    • @jameslehart3554
      @jameslehart3554 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh okay i get you now, wirecast does show 1080i50, then states 25fps, i mistook 1080i50 as 50fps... I've not used the production switcher yet for a live event so not sure of the correct settings. Its a boxing show, so is 25fps sufficient or should be looking to set it at 50fps? The wireless HD transmitters I've used start at $2,500. I know those would work :)

    Can recorde on Computer direckte?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Martin: You can send the program out from the V-1HD into your Mac by using an UltraStudio Mini Recorder, or you can go to a Windows machine by using a Magewell USB3 Capture Dongle. Then you can use the software of your choice for recording or streaming.

    Great demo. I'm contemplating ditching my Blackmagic Design Atem TVS for this unit.
