I really appreciate this take from Nicky… we need more of this in the world. Everything is so black and white, this side or that side, but there are so many complexities and shades of gray to the human experience and the world in general. That gets completely lost in today’s highly partisan, Twitter hot take culture.

We all agree Sherry is terrible but I love that Nicky admits she was really good at Drag Race. Because let’s be real she was. It is truly a shame she had done such horrible things because I really think she would have won the season if that hadn’t had come out. But I’m glad Jaida won.
I still don't think I would've liked Sherry on the season, esp with how production was clearly carrying her and Gigi (whom I love dearly) to the finals and how the stand-up challenge was misjudged when she fully went overtime. I'm pretty sure in a traditional LSFTC format, Jaida would've still beat Sherry as well.

Even the current season there were times Jimbo reasonably could’ve been in the bottom but it’s just not discussed.
They would have to mess around with the season a lot to justify a Sherry win cause Gigi and Jaida had more peak moments consistently throughout the season while Sherry peaked early. Also, Crystal and Gigi were fan favorites. I think it would be really really hard to justify pushing her foward over those two.
I agree Sherry may not have lip synced her way past Jaida (would've been an interesting bookend rematch). However, I have to agree with Nicky that her runways were the most creative regardless of whether she had better funds/resources than other girls and that's a shame. Though we never got to see much of her personality onscreen, and what I did see started to grate me a bit, but then some finalists have equally grating personalities (which production lives for) and that's what propels them to the finals.

Nicky Doll to me is very demonstrative of the fact that you don’t need to be good at drag race to be an exceptional drag artist, much like Rock M. Sakura, the talent is immensely present despite their short appearances

jaida was the third option for the crown based off of everything ik. i'm pretty sure the season was initially going to center around a cherry vs. gigi storyline with gigi being the villain but after the allegations came out, the editors had to redirect the narrative to just gigi since that was easier. whatwith production favoritism, her self-proclaimed apolitical stance during a united states presidential election year, and her breaking the rules during the finale, gigi couldn't win so they crowned jaida instead which in the long run, made much more sense for that season
as rupaul said it was truly jaida’s time the stars really aligned for her…sherry getting expelled…gigi cheating and production last minute scolding her like she just had to be herself and the competition basically took themselves out!
sherry scandal aside, im glad nicky touched on sherry possibly winning not because it was something i would’ve liked to see but i remember when jaida won over zoom and she said something like “oh my god you guys don’t understand I wasn’t even supposed to be there” since jaida was an alternate who last minute got officially casted plus how sherry leaving impacted the Top 6 placements moving everyone up one, it makes jaida’s win even more humbling and deserving! Always loved Nicky but this response made me respect her even more. It's hard to be like, "This person did a disgusting evil thing but I care about them" when the whole world may twist your words and misconstrue your points. It's refreshing to hear someone just say her name, call her out for what she did but acknowledge they actually knew this human being. I want to add that Sherry deserved everything she got and more. I am not standing with or for her. I'm speaking specifically about hearing the queens' unreserved thoughts and experiences on the matter. I stand with all the victims.
I don’t stand with nor against the victims. If they have a legal case, and want to pursue it, they should. I enjoy Sherry Pie as an entertainer, and want to see her evolve as an artist. She’s the real winner of her season.
Good interview with Nicky! I'm glad she was honest about how hard it was for her and the others to find out. I've seen a couple of other queens say the same and that just makes it so scary how SP did it. So many people just knew her as someone they looked up to and enjoyed working with. My heart is with the victims, as a victim myself, hoping they're getting the healing and peace they need. But same goes for the other s12 queens.

So much respect for Nicky for this very honest answer. What Sherry did was horrible and we need to acknowledge that, but in order to rehabilitate human beings we need to recognize them as human beings, which Sherry is, and recognize that they can change and become better people. Not everyone always does, but if we treat someone as a demon for the rest of their lives, what path do they have other than to be the demon that everyone will always think of them as anyway? Why be better if no one will believe you can be better?
Maybe they can work with the less fortunate and their image would change? It doesn’t matter what others think, just do good thing because it is good. Not for the opinion of others

Season 12 will forever be one of my favourite and comfort seasons. Not only did it have one of the best casts, challenges, and guest judges, but it really helped make lockdown a little less terrible. I always looked forward to Friday nights ❤
Wow I truly didn’t realize Nicky is so wise and emotionally mature. The fact she’s so empathetic She stayed in touch with Sherry instead of his ping on the bandwagon and giving her a scarlet letter speaks so highly of Nicky’s character to me.
I agree, it was disapointing to see what happened with Sherry Pie b/c when I watched the season she was the clear winner to me as well. She killed all the challenges, runways both camp & elegance. You cannot take away from the level of talent shown - she would have been up there in comparing that level to Jinxx, Viv, Jimbo in my mind.

Nicky is such a great communicator the way she explains this issue as fair as possible and considering the holistic situation. This is the first time I see a conversation about Sherry which brings new light into what actually happened on the set, because the other girls gave dead end answer and just straight up cussing her (which is still understandable). Hope those therapy session actually changes SP, and everyone deserves a friend like Nicky
I am kinda in the same boat as Nicky. Sherry is a disgusting human being, and I am glad that she is receiving consequences for her actions even though she seems to be trying to get back into drag. However, looking at the season, I loved her brand and style of drag that she did. If the situation didn’t happen, then I most likely would have wanted her to make Top 2 with Jaida.
I like the way she answered the question a lot. She doesn’t hate Sherry I think she’s just disappointed at the fact that she had so much potential and it got wasted. I’ve never really liked how black and white the situation was broadcasted. The reality is a lot of these queens were close with Sherry and their emotions are probably really complex regarding the situation. Also it’s nice to know she didn’t completely turn her back on her either. Hopefully she’s turned a new leaf and is doing good in this world with the rest of her life and the victims are at peace.
Not the same situation at all, but it's the same way production handled Tyra: in order to keep a clean slate, they just completely cut ties with her and offered no assistance.
May be an unpopular opinion but sometimes I wish they broadcasted the full season. Cutting out pivotal scenes regarding her and the other girls gave us a pretty half baked season. She was a finalist after all and you can tell because they were trying to trying to keep their hands clean that a lot of content was axed. Totally mishandled. I get that it was out of respect, and like Nicki said; who’s to say that she would not recieve more hate had she been aired. But with that being said, the situation was very complex and its resolution was basically cutting Sherry off from everything and ostracizes her from drag and society. Nobody is saying she needs to be forgiven but if she was going to get cancelled either way the least they could do for her designers, the girls, and sherry herself is show us the entirety of the season that way we can judge a whole person rather than just a person known only for their crime. Her victims deserve a say in her handling as well, but its not like Sherry suffering for the rest of her life will bring anybody happiness or closure.
I know the fans aren’t ready for this, but Sherry Pie never hurt any of these queens. The queens love Sherry and want to support her, so don’t act shocked when the queens praise Sherry and give her her flowers. Sherry’s controversy doesn’t take away from her talent and likeability towards the queens.
I truly think if Sherry didn’t do what she did, she would have won the season. It would’ve been Sherry (winner), Jaida (2nd), Gigi (3rd), and Crystal (4th). It’s so unfortunate cause she could’ve easily been the first “big girl” winner.
I absolutely love Nicki, and I appreciate this different take (it was calm and kind), but the only one thing that bothered me was her saying “she didn’t do it to me”. I get what she’s saying, but I don’t think that really should change anything about what she (🍒) did. Still love Nicki, and this doesn’t make me see her differently or anything, but I thought that part was a strange thing to say and I wanted to mention it.
I think it's just her admitting she'd have different feelings if it did happen to her, but since it didn't, it allowed her to be an ear for Cherry because she was worried about how bad it got and that Cherry might off herself.
Just respect her for being real and having her own opinion. We only saw one side of Sherry while these queens met a whole person whom they have shared memories with. That is a very complicated position. Its easy for us to judge harshly when all we know of Sherry is her crime. As much as Sherry did wrong, we aren’t doing the victims, the girls, or the culprit herself any favors by dogpiling meaningless judgements and insults. Sherry was punished and will forever face repurcussions for her actions. But she is still a human being, whom clearly regrets what they did and is trying to work on themselves. Only the victims can give her the oppurtunity for forgiveness and growth, but the least we can do as outsiders is show our support and stay out of something we cannot possibly understand.
I respect her honesty. I think alot of people stayed in touch with Sherry but were to afraid to admit it because of the hate they would probably get so her honesty is very refreshing..
Nicky'a stance on her relationship with Sherry is gonna be a polarizing thing. I could already see a portion of Drag Race fans cancel her for even speaking positively about Sherry. Personally at the end of the day the queens know each other than any of us viewers ever will. So we can't fully fault them on how they interact with each other. And I think Nicky is smart enough to know her boundaries about the issue and with Sherry.
its nice to see someone in the drag milieu who can behave humanely and with a deep level of understanding... that is rare...just read any comment thread. extending the possibility of forgiveness and change is something very few drag fans can do.

It's hard to be like, "This person did a disgusting evil thing but I care about them" when the whole world may twist your words and misconstrue your points. It's refreshing to hear someone just say her name, call her out for what she did but acknowledge they actually knew this human being.
I want to add that Sherry deserved everything she got and more. I am not standing with or for her. I'm speaking specifically about hearing the queens' unreserved thoughts and experiences on the matter. I stand with all the victims.
I don’t stand with nor against the victims. If they have a legal case, and want to pursue it, they should. I enjoy Sherry Pie as an entertainer, and want to see her evolve as an artist. She’s the real winner of her season.

Good interview with Nicky! I'm glad she was honest about how hard it was for her and the others to find out. I've seen a couple of other queens say the same and that just makes it so scary how SP did it. So many people just knew her as someone they looked up to and enjoyed working with. My heart is with the victims, as a victim myself, hoping they're getting the healing and peace they need. But same goes for the other s12 queens.

So much respect for Nicky for this very honest answer. What Sherry did was horrible and we need to acknowledge that, but in order to rehabilitate human beings we need to recognize them as human beings, which Sherry is, and recognize that they can change and become better people. Not everyone always does, but if we treat someone as a demon for the rest of their lives, what path do they have other than to be the demon that everyone will always think of them as anyway? Why be better if no one will believe you can be better?
Maybe they can work with the less fortunate and their image would change? It doesn’t matter what others think, just do good thing because it is good. Not for the opinion of others
I am SO glad you have this show because we get to see queens personalities because I knew Nicky was crazy intelligent but this proves it. THIS is what France saw and her seasons production didn’t appreciate enough. Season 12 will forever be one of my favourite and comfort seasons. Not only did it have one of the best casts, challenges, and guest judges, but it really helped make lockdown a little less terrible. I always looked forward to Friday nights ❤

I agree, it was disapointing to see what happened with Sherry Pie b/c when I watched the season she was the clear winner to me as well. She killed all the challenges, runways both camp & elegance. You cannot take away from the level of talent shown - she would have been up there in comparing that level to Jinxx, Viv, Jimbo in my mind.

I am kinda in the same boat as Nicky. Sherry is a disgusting human being, and I am glad that she is receiving consequences for her actions even though she seems to be trying to get back into drag. However, looking at the season, I loved her brand and style of drag that she did. If the situation didn’t happen, then I most likely would have wanted her to make Top 2 with Jaida.

I like the way she answered the question a lot. She doesn’t hate Sherry I think she’s just disappointed at the fact that she had so much potential and it got wasted. I’ve never really liked how black and white the situation was broadcasted. The reality is a lot of these queens were close with Sherry and their emotions are probably really complex regarding the situation. Also it’s nice to know she didn’t completely turn her back on her either. Hopefully she’s turned a new leaf and is doing good in this world with the rest of her life and the victims are at peace.
Not the same situation at all, but it's the same way production handled Tyra: in order to keep a clean slate, they just completely cut ties with her and offered no assistance.
May be an unpopular opinion but sometimes I wish they broadcasted the full season. Cutting out pivotal scenes regarding her and the other girls gave us a pretty half baked season. She was a finalist after all and you can tell because they were trying to trying to keep their hands clean that a lot of content was axed. Totally mishandled.
I get that it was out of respect, and like Nicki said; who’s to say that she would not recieve more hate had she been aired. But with that being said, the situation was very complex and its resolution was basically cutting Sherry off from everything and ostracizes her from drag and society. Nobody is saying she needs to be forgiven but if she was going to get cancelled either way the least they could do for her designers, the girls, and sherry herself is show us the entirety of the season that way we can judge a whole person rather than just a person known only for their crime. Her victims deserve a say in her handling as well, but its not like Sherry suffering for the rest of her life will bring anybody happiness or closure.

I know the fans aren’t ready for this, but Sherry Pie never hurt any of these queens. The queens love Sherry and want to support her, so don’t act shocked when the queens praise Sherry and give her her flowers.

I truly think if Sherry didn’t do what she did, she would have won the season. It would’ve been Sherry (winner), Jaida (2nd), Gigi (3rd), and Crystal (4th). It’s so unfortunate cause she could’ve easily been the first “big girl” winner.

I absolutely love Nicki, and I appreciate this different take (it was calm and kind), but the only one thing that bothered me was her saying “she didn’t do it to me”. I get what she’s saying, but I don’t think that really should change anything about what she (🍒) did.
Still love Nicki, and this doesn’t make me see her differently or anything, but I thought that part was a strange thing to say and I wanted to mention it.
I think it's just her admitting she'd have different feelings if it did happen to her, but since it didn't, it allowed her to be an ear for Cherry because she was worried about how bad it got and that Cherry might off herself.

Just respect her for being real and having her own opinion. We only saw one side of Sherry while these queens met a whole person whom they have shared memories with. That is a very complicated position. Its easy for us to judge harshly when all we know of Sherry is her crime.
As much as Sherry did wrong, we aren’t doing the victims, the girls, or the culprit herself any favors by dogpiling meaningless judgements and insults. Sherry was punished and will forever face repurcussions for her actions. But she is still a human being, whom clearly regrets what they did and is trying to work on themselves. Only the victims can give her the oppurtunity for forgiveness and growth, but the least we can do as outsiders is show our support and stay out of something we cannot possibly understand.
I respect Nicky's willingness to be honest and truthful even when it's uncomfortable.

Nicky'a stance on her relationship with Sherry is gonna be a polarizing thing. I could already see a portion of Drag Race fans cancel her for even speaking positively about Sherry. Personally at the end of the day the queens know each other than any of us viewers ever will. So we can't fully fault them on how they interact with each other. And I think Nicky is smart enough to know her boundaries about the issue and with Sherry.
