I remember seeing a documentary on a trans woman as a kid in the 80’s or 90’s and it was really moving to me at the time. I remember seeing her struggles like telling her family and recovering from medical stuff. It was so much work and so important to her, I thought no one would choose to go through this unless they absolutely had to. I think a lot of kids are naturally empathetic and can choose that path regardless of their parents’ views. With more awareness around it, that is happening now more and more. We just have to remember that there will always be the opposite extreme pushing fear, ignorance, and hatred.

1:41 I desperately needed to hear this. I'm afab and identify as a transmasc person, but I don't take hormones, I don't bind, and I'm still on the fence about top surgery. I sometimes feel alienated in my own (trans) community. To hear this from a trans icon I look up to is so validating

I think parents also worry about the physical well-being of their children regarding surgery, hormones effects and society as it pertains to safety. They also have to emotionally come to grips with the child
they nurtured and had dreams for, which is natural, choosing such a different path. I think parents just need time, acceptance, education and love too to wrap their heads around such a drastic change with their babies. Before anyone is an adult, they were somebody's baby and child. We are all only human so Gottmik is right, it is better to come from a place of love. Patience and kindness is important with love.

I think using the term ignorant is legit for people who misuse terms or say things without intentional malice. But to call them, or anyone unschooled, inherently transphobic doesn't ring true. Unless there's intentional malice or bullying, it's just ignorance. I understand that it's not anyone's job to educate the masses, but all this is still relatively new, so patience and a quick comment like "that's offensive" can go a long way to some people learn.

Being trans is not new in anyway and there is MORE than enough info out there on how it works, what’s offensive, etc. if you genuinely don’t know about it then you’re just willfully ignorant

If sex dysphoria doesn't make you trans, then being trans is only about gender roles and stereotypes, which means Gottmik is a woman for doing drag. It's one or the other.

Sex dysphoria makes you transsex, gender dysphoria makes you transgender. Most trans people are both. And gender expression is different than gender identity. Gender expression is gender stereotypes and roles, Gender identity is about language. Also his drag queen persona is just a character he plays. Pretty much all drag queens are characters that actors are playing, thats why you use she/her pronouns for them in drag, but he/him (or whatever pronouns they use) outside of drag

No Gitmik hasn’t had bottom surgeryThey talk about it on NO GORGE podcast .. also talks about pronouns and doesn’t care about which one someone prefers to use considering that they do drag and “SHE” is used all the time with queens whether in or out of drag also their idenity as a trans drag queen is so unique that it’s confusing to ppl and doesn’t really care that much about what pronouns are used
