"Good for a laugh" ?!?!? You're nuts! These guys were pioneers and fearless. People surf with all the past generations of knowledge passed down. These guys riding on less information and worse equipment. Respect

I hated the narration, but the video is great, these guys were fearless.

"at least it is good for a laugh" ? Is he kidding us ? Makaha is a place with such power and grace. So much respect for anyone surfing there.

Narrator is such a kook. These guys are out on 12 ft logs charging with no leash. These guy "just trying to hang on" were pioneers.

Brah these guys are Hawaiian, Makaha back then was even more guarded and secret. OG watermen that you should respect, and never laugh at. Riding those waves on redwood is absolutely crazy

Did you know if the backwash at makaha was a thing back then? Or is that recent?
I've surfed Makaha a lot but I just don't understand the wave's reputation, it's just not that good because of the backwash.

@@RedLineShortFilmsThe backwash has always been there - but that's more of an inside thing. These guys are surfing the outside - "the point".
The backwash is just something you have to read and anticipate. The best guys out there just make it look easy... they're waiting for it, to do their turns. When it hits it makes a nice hollow explosion, even on a whitewater.

  • @alexscheele

Narrator has no clue. “At least it’s good for a laugh” and “believe it or not they were the top surfers in the 40s”. These innovators were real men, with balls of steel. 12’ heavy boards, no leashes or suits. Most surfers these days wouldn’t even be able to carry the board to the beach let alone get out back and surf. Respect to these men.
