So it looks like the thing that busted it up was the moment the rock put positive camber on the left front wheel and ground it to a stop at the same time. So there must have been some upward pressure on the diff at the same time a lot of torque was put on it by the suddenly stopped wheel. Alternatively it was just that the rock suddenly stopped the wheel and that wheel, having just been receiving a lot of the torque & freely spinning, suddenly bound up and that blew the diff. Funny that the diff and not the CV joint blew. I wonder if you had the Harrop e-locker would things have been different? Not sure if that's stronger, but at least you wouldn't have been loading/unloading torque between the front wheels so rapidly.
funny you say that, on this trip none of my traction control was working, so the system that would have applied the caliper to the spinning wheel was broken, looking back at it I should fixed it earlier and not after the trip...would that still have happened not sure but it would have helped
I blew my front diff two days ago and I was looking for videos of the same happening and couldn't find any...glad to see I'm not the only one who did it...hahaha!!! Seems like yours split the casing, but my casing is still in tact and it will be stripped out in the next few days to find the exact problem.
