How to Turn a Plain Skirt into A Romantic Layered Maxi Skirt

  • Thrifted skirt, turned into a lovely romantic layered piece of wearable art! This is a rare step by step tutorial showing you how to create a beautiful altered couture skirt, and I did it all on a dime! I start with a thrifted skirt and show you how to build luscious layers with clothing remnants, lace, tablecloths, fringe, fabric flowers, sequins and more. Then...we dye it a beautiful light blue color with Kentucky sky Dyemore fabric dye. Create your own pieces of wearable art (I have tons of tutorials) to wear, give as gifts or sell like I did. Most of all have fun and don't take it to seriously!

Thank you for your careful instruction, yet you moved the instructions along quickly. The finished skirt is exquisite and certainly one of a kind. I would be so proud to wear this skirt. I have started collecting a few items to use . I’m thinking that dying the skirt red would be fun and very much for the holiday season .Later it could be for the Valentine’s season.

Good God woman! I couldn't love this skirt anymore if you tortured me in an attempt to squeeze more love out of me!!!
    It is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! 😍😍😍
I don't know where you've been hiding but I'm glad I found you. I'm definitely subscribing after this. This was literally incredible.
I think my only suggestion would be to tuck the top into the skirt so it's closer to your body, just to highlight your upper and lower body with more definition.
At the moment the top bagging out makes you look bigger than you are and you've got a nice slim waist.
Plus a sleeker looking top would accentuate the skirt even more, rather than detract from it.
But that's not criticism at all, just my opinion. I'm a kind of "either upper or lower body wow factor" kind of person, you know? Big billowy tops with straight jeans, or simple jersey vest tops with billowy skirts.
But hey, you do you! I think we're approximately the same age, and if I had a dinky lil waist still, I'd be highlighting it. You sure do have a lot going for you!!!
You're very attractive, have a lovely figure, very stylish, artistic and make skirts like this masterpiece! 😮
I can't wait to dive into your other videos now! If your inspiration can help me become even a quarter of looking as put-together as you, I'll be a happy woman! 😘😘😘

Hi Tracy, love this video! I've always wondered where to even begin. My question is about the first ruffled embroidered lace you stitched on. Would it affect the style if you had put two rows of large gathering stitch as a drawstring, then gathered the long lace circular strip before pinning on rather than hand pinning pleats? Just wondering. I studied dress-making, designing & pattern making years ago, but sadly have lacked confidence in myself especially when I see my girls just get into upcycling their own clothes with no former knowledge of dressmaking. Oh if only I had your self confidence my life would be complete😅.

Aww I think you should just dig in and do it! What do you have to lose? As far as the gathering of the ruffle, I have done it that way, for me, it requires being more precise in my my measurements.🤗💕💕💕💕

Tracey I’m wondering whether you actually wear your creations. I’ve noticed that in ur wonderful 🙏 videos you tend to dress a bit more plainly ie mainstream. I love seeing you in that gypsy boho style it really suits you . ❤

I don't wear them often, I was a seller and created these mainly to sell. I love the creative artistic process.😊

I have come upon your channel and am going to make a boho duster. Though I have this lace that may be Belguim 19th century lace. Two curtain panels and am asking should I go ahead and cut into pieces, can I send you a pic and get your advice

I have a lot of doilies and lace table clothes left behind to me from my mother. I have recently wondered what I could do with them. I want to make one of these out of them but can't get the courage to cut up these heirlooms from my mother (given to her from her mother). Should I look at it as a treasure that I can make new for myself out of these things that are just sitting in a linen closet in my home and not being used?

Oh gosh, I wouldn't want to push anyone to do something that makes them uncomfortable or possibly regretful. The way I look at it is, they will be tucked away and not seen for years and it's not likely the next generation (when you decide to pass them down) will appreciate or even want them. If you create something beautiful with them, they can be enjoyed now, and think of all the love and hands that went into making your garment.🤗💗💕💗💕💗💕
