Review: 2008 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS - Exotic Bargain at 20k?

- I review one of the best sounding luxury sedans ever made, the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S. This 2008 model was right before the much-needed facelift but did get the much-improved ZF 6-speed automatic transmission. At 20k prices, do you think it's a good deal or still a bad idea? To all the actual haters and naysayers. Yes this car is not great before the 07 and above. But any car that is not the base model and has the ZF transmission you'll fall in love with it. For reliability it has been the most reliable car I ever had. Havent done anything to it for almost 3 years other than the oil change. And I drive my executive gt almost everyday. Get a nice one and you'll be amazed of the bargain in your hands. Change my mind lol

Had my 2010 granturismo for nearly 5 years with very little problems. Front upper bushings and cam cover gaskets. An engine you just want to give a big hug 🤗. Sticky buttons will piss you off though.
@@alantownsley6391 my valve cover gasket failed too. Alternator as well. Besides that, great car.
Which year do you suggest ?
I have an 06 quattroporte. Brilliant car, no issues, the gearbox is fine. Just because it's a bit slow doesn't mean that the car is terrible.

Some of these comments.... stop comparing your hondas. These ZF cars are very reliable. If you've never owned one, you have no room to comment.
Everybody loves to bash these cars but it is the generation of Italian V8 normally aspirated engines like these that are gone forever. Think about that and enjoy driving your new small displacement most likely German twin turbo shitboxes that sound like shit and are built in a cost cutting age.

Totally agree with you - currently driving one with no problems other than regular maintenance. The naturally aspirated V8 engine is the real deal!

Must be the Ferrari F1 transmission. The ZF Automatic is much much better.
Dev 97 the 2008 is already ZF, they solved this problem, originally it was equipped with Ferrari transmission

Wow, I have never seen one optioned with that type of interior - it's eye-popping.
Literally one of my eyeballs popped and a hemroid came out in its location. Dont look at it too long.

This styling is the best looking QP. Even better then the restyled version the restyled front and rear bumper. Looks better than the latest version of QP. The flippers on the steering column isn't the best location. When your in full lock searching for the flippers isn't cool.

I can tell you from first hand, that a Maserati is never a bargain when you tend to use it. My friend has one of the biggest private Maserati Collections in Europe and they are never trouble free. From getting parts, improving parts, tuning, Suspension, Electronics, Interieur - I have seen that all and still see it weekly. He loves the Brand, they had a dealership back in the days but he would laugh when I would tell him about the title :-) - I love them too, but more the classic cars or the 3200 GT (because I was flashed by the Design when it was new).

I know alot of people change them. HVAC stuff is separate and below radio/head unit
My moms looking at buying an 08 model v8. She is buying herself one under 20K for her 71st birthday. She earned it as a retired trauma nurse . But she is concerned about any common issues it could have. Do they sell extended warranties on exotics like this ? She is wanting to buy asap and I’m like it’s Sunday lol 😂 but people are gonna stare at an old woman driving this but she said she don’t care haha

It’s probably a really bad idea. When these cars start to go wrong, they are very expensive to fix.
A CEL that stays on till the engine warms up....🤔, that light gets a double workout!
And then stays on forever after 5 thousand miles.

Great car for continuous repairs for a DIYer’s retired Master rated certified mechanic as a hobby car only!

the maintenance will be hell to pay for. if $20,000 is your budget (not even sure if you can finance a 10 year old car) you'd be a fool to get this. unless you have 20k you can burn without missing it and really like this car for some reason i wouldnt get this
I've never been so simultaneously fascinated and repulsed by an interior video. Ugh. The switch gear and gray plastic look like they came out of a Saturn.
Even the ones with the aisin trans kinda suck as hoovie experienced. Maserati's are great lease cars with a warranty, after that it's a massive gamble.
They run a ZF transmission from Germany that are fairly solid

That’s true, the other option was the ferrari derived robotised manual which is famous for all the wrong reasons. No Aisin auto though.

An S2000 excites Matt more than this car does. Ferrari derived V8 means it is that much less reliable. Hope this helps.
Maseratis are never bargains. You’re gonna pay double what the car is worth in repairs and maintenance by the time you reach 100,000 miles.

This car has a revolting interior that ruins an otherwise beautiful car. Having paddles on a ZF auto seems like a great idea, on the column not so great, but you get used to it I suppose.
Theres an 09 in my area for $23k they're totally worth it though. A car that makes you look rich but wont bust your bank account

My 2007 Dodge Caliber had the “refrigerated” glove box, trust me it’s nothing to be proud of.
Matt absolutely refuses to say anything bad about a brand.
Please see the pros and cons list I include in every video at the end of the interior and driving segments. Nearly every car has cons that I criticize if you don’t want to watch the whole video.

I have one of these cars and love it. Is it expensive to maintain? . . . yes. Mine has 19" wheels, and I wish it had 17" because we have such poor rough roads in California now. Is it fun to drive? . . . as a former race driver, I can say, that yes it handles very well even when it's not in sport mode!
Great cars if they've been maintained dont buy one if you cant afford to maintain it.

My dentist has one of these..in black...not sure what yr it is though....Maybe its just the mic and it may sound alot different from ur perspectivce, but not impressed at all with the sound...The one the dentist had was in the shop for ages while he was getting body parts from italy..Cant even fathom the repair bill, but he probably had full insurance, if not, well, he IS a dentist! he hit an elk at 80mph and wrecked the car..he was fine but the maser was laid up for long time and he was given a loner rental to use.
Bargain at 20K... Yes until it breaks down once every month and you have to eventually sell it at a lost...
I have one with 100k trouble free miles. NOT! LOL

That can be very true... There is an interesting study done, where the "average" yearly cost of maintaining an older vehicle comes to about 3.8% of the total of the original price of that vehicle. SO for example the 2008 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS sold for about $128k. Making its "average" annual maintenance cost (all repairs and services) about $4800.
Now this is NOT a hard in stone amount, is all depends on the vehicle and how well it was/is maintained. It is just a good "rule of thumb" to use as a gauge to see if you can afford to own a certain vehicle in the long run.
Of course there are always going to be outliers to this rule... For example a Toyota Camry will only run you about 1 - 2% in annual maintenance costs... The Camry of course is considered one of the most if not the most reliable car ever.

“Bargain?” Years ago, Maserati owners almost paid people to take their BiTurbo Spyders off their hands! Maserati’s always look great because they’re never running well enough to drive. The Money Pit definition should have this cars pic next to it, with the proverbial boat.
If it’s a GTS, it runs a 4.7 liter engine, not 4.2. To me, this looks like a regular GT.

I’ve been doing those titles for over a year now, I just don’t do it on every video.
It's a piece of garbage on 4 wheels.
As good as Maserti seems to be to build at building maintenance nightmares, Ferrari, BMW, Audi, Tesla and Mercerdes are even better at sucking. All pricey cars have decended into the pit of hell and should be consided temporary buys with a total life span of the warranty period. After that, they are literally worthless.
You'll spend $20k a year just on repairs on this fuckin' thing.
