One thing that helped me a lot is turning 3d objects in the background into Planes, convert the object on it's own into a PNG with a transparent background, so i have a bunch of planes, works well for some scenes and reduces the polygon count soo much, really depends though on what you want to do and what you need to be 3d and what can be made 2d.
Also forgot to mention, you can do this for animated objects as well, i had an animated tree from the Botaniq addon, i then converted it into a Gif (image sequence) and basically had a whole forest of animated trees set up this way, time consuming set up, but worth it if you're really passionate about getting that render done.
I was 42 frames of shy of completing my render for the alternate realities challenge before the deadline. So close...and yet so far. I really appreciate your videos! You do great work. I liked your alternate realities submission as well.
This is exactly what I needed! I'm working on a character that is in the 30m+ range of polys and has over 60 8k textures and hundreds of thousands of hairs. Now I'll actually be able to render it without it straight up crashing.
If that helps, bump up the tile size for faster renders. You can find the best tile size for your pc trough a blender add-on (Something like auto tile size).
@@nemesis2477 Baking cycles lighting to an object with a blank UV. This means that a lot of the light calculation done in cycles can be neglected, saving HUGE amounts of time.
Yeah you don't absolutely NEED to use render layers unless it's a complex scene. I mean, it has a lot more pros which I didn't go over, so maybe look into it ;)
I think it's a great idea... Maybe not a timesaver, but I have 2 RTX3080Ti grafics cards, and sometimes I do run out of memory (in Cycles Optix ,wich is faster dan the normal Cycles GPU rendering) Rendering with CPU is an option but takes a lot longer to render and is (for me?) not an option at all ... So this looks like a great way to break up your scene and later on have way more control in post (and don't need to render again and again) My question then is ... could you make a tutorial on how to get these layers back together in the Blender compositor? 😄
thanks buddy for your awesome tutorials u r the best, i have a question if you can help me, i am new at blender and i"ve both recently an msi g66 rtx 3070, i7 10, 32 g of ram but on animations with some grass, trees, large terrain and pure sky on it becomes to get very slow and even blender crush, and it's just impossible to render anything :( i start to give up so if you have any tips for me i'll thankful, like for example make a small scene and show us how to do it from the beginning to the rendering it will be great, thank you anyway u helped me a lot as a lot of other people u do a great job wish u success
Great video, I would like to deep dive into composition with blender and after effects using passes. Where can I find a course/tutorials about these topics?
For learning the Blender compositor, I could recommend this tutorial series: th-cam.com/video/ACcU6SbLjK8/w-d-xo.html You can just learn the basics of AfterEffects yourself and then try compositing your animations. If you're stuck at any specific part, just Google it! :)
Check the background pass before rendering. That's where only the HDRI is (or any other background color you may have used). Otherwise, you could also just turn everything off and render just the HDRI. You might not even need to render out an animation and just render an image instead, depending on whether your camera is rotating or not.
Let's say you have 3 render layers for the 160 frames. What you want to do is import those three sets of 160 images as image sequences in whatever software you're using to composite them. Then you simply stack them o top of each other in the timeline to get the full image. Here's my workflow in AfterEffects if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/q62uih1DNrI/w-d-xo.html
i tried the indirect light and turn on the hold out to render a frame.. but other collections object's textures still loads on the memory .. is there something im missing ?
@@Thyronix yes it doesn't but still if you completely separate into a collection and turn it off from everything then it's not going to interfere. ( you will miss some light bounce )

It could yeah. You'll see a significant improvement over the old Cycles when you render a complicated scene using GPU computing. For simpler scenes, it doesnt work all that well. Besides, that 4x longer thing might just be a bug considering it's still heavily in development. You could also try switching between CUDA or Optix and see which one works better (it differs for certain cases).
Sometimes your hardware isn't powerful enough to render your scene. It may take an obscure amount of time, or your scene doesn't even start rendering because your VRAM ran out, for example. Which is why these renderfarm services exist, which have multiple computers dedicated solely to rendering out users' scenes. It'll save you time and allow you to focus more on the stuff that actually matters than waiting for your scene to render, or sometimes you don't even have a choice because you simply cannot render your scene with your existing hardware without reducing the quality, in broad terms. Hope this made sense :)

Google colab is insane. I rendered my punisher animation which was 150 frames in about 3 hours. This scene was massive

Normally how much would it take in your specs?
Does google colab also render with image textures from libraries like botaniq

Using view layers to save time makes no sense, Blender needs to calculate the entire scene for each layer.
I never said it was to save time, it was to make massive scenes renderable in case you're running out of memory or VRAM.
