    Must be about the 7th game this season where we've dropped points due to the same issues, namely we can't hit a Barn door and our defence is like a sieve.
    I actually enjoyed the match though thought it was a good spectacle. Even if we miss out on the play offs I'd keep Clarke as he can't be blamed for individual errors.

    If you don’t convert your chances you put pressure on the defence, if you keep conceding stupid goals then you put pressure on your strikers, a bit chicken and egg for which you sort out.
    This game shows why we won’t finish in the top two, we keep making the same mistakes. We do have more than enough to get in the play offs, that is where need to make sure we are and need to peak then.

    Dont want to single out players, but Connell looks a shadow of the player he can be. Dont know why? But for me Nwakali is much the better choice for starting. He's a class above any other player we've got.

  • @neildolan7177
    @neildolan7177 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Jo, I agree with you. The three centre backs are not quick enough for this formation and therefore we are exposed to the counter if we lose the ball. Connell is not the fastest either so he struggles to provide cover. If there is enough quality in the attack we score goals and kill the game. We chased the ball and burnt ourselves out after 60 minutes. We cannot play high press for 90 minutes, so when we do we must score, otherwise we need a plan B.

  • @neildolan7177
    @neildolan7177 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    This is how I see the problem here. There is complacency in the camp resulting from arrogance. Many of those players think they are better than what they are. They turn up & we get on top and we think this is easy. Let's all go up & score a goal. We don't score goals but wear ourselves out trying to get a goal. Then in the second half we conceed and we are too tired to track back when we don't score, or we lose the ball.

    Saturday was a missed opportunity to close the gap on the top. And it gives the teams below us hope that they can make the top6. The best thing we can say is that we are consistent. We missed too many good chances and we conceded too many softish goals. It's been the story of our season. It's going to be difficult to find a quality striker. Clubs don't want to lose players in January unless they can get good money. And I don't think we have the money to make a statement signing. That means we are looking at League 2 and the National league for a promising young striker. Will they help us this season? Maybe. Or a Loan signing. They have been hit or miss for us.
    Watters and Humphries are League 1 strikers because they are not prolific goal scorers. Their records this season are almost identical this season with 4 goals and 700 odd minutes played.
    The club decided we wanted to play a 3 - 5 - 2 formation and then have bought the wrong players, particularly at the back to make the best use of the system. Our central defenders lack pace not only over 10 - 20 metres but also that initial 2 -3 metres. How many times has an opposition striker got goal side of our defenders in our box for clear strikes and headers on goal. The first goal on Saturday a perfect example. We have conceded 8 - 15 goals too many this season. If we want to finish higher than 5th we need to shore up our defence.
    I think we should change formation to 4 -2 - 3 - 1. I think the players we have are better suited to this set up. We should be harder to score against, and we still have the opportunity to move forward with numbers as we have this season but we have more cover in the middle of the park to defend counter attacks. I know it's a risk to change formations half way through the season but we have to find a better way. We have a high ceiling and a low floor in our results. We have to raise our floor for more consistent results. And I think the best way to do that is to reduce the number of goals we concede. I think a vocal goalkeeper might help with organisation a the back too. We seem to be a quiet side. Not a lot of talking. I'm watching the games on IFollow. Can you hear the players talking at Oakwell, Alan??
    O'Keefe, any combination of MDG, Roberts, Pines or Earl, MDG and Earl would be my first choice, Gent or Farrugia
    Kelechi and Connell
    Phillips, Russell, DKD
    Watters
    Humphries and Farrugia can play wide left in this formation too

  • @neildolan7177

    I think Clark is in a difficult position now because the fans are not happy because the players let us down. If he makes changes, which he should, and it don't work, he's going to get the blame for players not doing the basics.

  • @denzilodonnell

    Regarding the wing backs. Bombing forward, which is their requirement, the job is a lot easier to do when you've got Thomas, Anderson and Kitching minding things at the back. We haven't... I've never been too bothered about stats...Nine shots on targets is totally misleading, when most of them are tapped straight to the keeper...Most of Max's one on one's, he seems to put the ball low to the keepers left. Opposition teams will have worked this out in the same way that we do with other sides. His all round play had improved considerably and he deserves credit for that. Let's hope that a couple if goals will give him some confidence, as although at the moment he doesn't look like scoring, the positions he gets into, i could still see him going on a run, IF he can free himself from what appears to be a fear of not scoring, in those positions...To be honest, im more frustrated by the lack of key signings than yesterday's result... Days like Bristol will happen from time to time, unless our issue's are addressed...At the moment, I'm not confident that they will be

    Eee my giddy aunt it's the old adage of if we don't take our chances then you live to regret them and sadly it isn't the first time it has happened to us this season I won't single players out for mistakes as they know where they went wrong we have to dust ourselves down and start again and Alan is right about the positives out of the game

    Goals win games. If you take your chances, that dwarfs any of our other problems.
    I can’t understand Watters mentality. He’s scored a couple of goals, is first choice, but still looks lacking confidence.

    TBH lads… i was ready for throwing the tv through the window after that performance….however after calming myself down and rewatching the highlights i thought we were great offensively and created chance after chance which is a massive plus, but we have to convert these simple chances, had we done and it would have been a cricket score, i think the defence might have got more exposed with us opening up chasing the game, still think we need a commanding CB aswell as a couple of strikers… here’s hoping 🤞 🤞🤞

  • @christopherbradder5090
    @christopherbradder5090 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Massive over reaction once again to a defeat. When we loose, we are absolutely useless apparently. Good teams bounce back, like when Leyton Orient gave us a big spanking, what happened next. Oh yes. 4 straight wins and 12 points. We all need to calm down. BARNSLEY needs simply to brush themselves down, put it to bed and get ready for Stevenage and sure we can go on another good run. We have the players and we’ve got the talent to finish in the top 6. Got to agree with some of the comments on here regarding our strikers, they are not prolific enough, apart from Dunn, I’m not confident anyone will hit double figures. You need 2 strikers in double figures really, if you are been realistic about the top 2. Doubt that will happen. But playoffs no doubt will be here for a third consecutive season.in the transfer window. I’m not sure if we have the funds for a 20 goal a season striker. Might need to be a loan signing from the premiership or championship. A player whose had a recent injury and needs game time. Top show once again lads on Red all over. Great to see Tom on the show. Made some excellent points. YOU REDS!

    There's a danger of a massive overreaction in the aftermath of a defeat.I think there has been some good considered analysis from Gas fans. I agree with Denzil,who points out the weakness of the back 3 at the moment.
    I was worried when I saw the line up yesterday, our formation was 3-3-3-1,with Max as the lone striker,Connell the defensive midfielder, and 3 number 10s. We lost the game because we let in 3 poor goals,not missed a load of chances. We seem more secure when there are 2 holding midfielders and the back 3 stay deep and don't push up too far..
    Congrats to the Gas,they are fighting to stay in the division, so 3 points was most welcome from Dr Barnsley.
    The season is going well and you can see how the long term plan is working, patience is required. Although it would make for bland podcasts😂😅.
    Have a great week everyone 😊

  • @TezboBFC
    @TezboBFC 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Score early goals allows the midfield to drop back 5/10 yards to help the defence out if they try and get a goal back this will give the front men more room to try and improve the score. So put away the chances would see a totally score line

    I'll be honest, I can't see how after the Crawley game (granted they weren't great) that he can justify bringing Connell back in. I like Connell, but he plays the ball backwards and sideways, where Nwakali plays the ball forward! It's quite simple really.
    We've got better through the season so fair play to Clarke and to bee fair played well yesterday for a lot of the time, but Nwakali must be scratching his head.
