You think I'll listen to one of MCs stories on Brian Clough and you cannot help but listen to every story, and you're left in awe of just how incredible the bloke was, they'll never be another Brian Clough for eccentricity or sheer class, my team Mansfield is currently enjoying success with his 'chip off the old block' son Nigel and we're truly privileged because anybody who followed his Dad's ways can see his son has some of his football principles etc, and 'at the time of writing this' something good is happening because we're 17 matches unbeaten! Plus the whole town has a spring in its step.

I forgot to say in my last post. I was at the last game Brian ever managed. It was at my home town of Ipswich. It was a honour to be there, to pay homage to a true legend of the beautiful game. When the great man came onto the pitch, everyone stood and gave a standing ovation. One of my greatest memories. RIP Cloughie.

Where the Dell once stood in Southampton there is a short “no through road” called Mark Crossley Way. I think it was named in honour of Mark being the only keeper to stop a Matt Le Tissier penalty.

Mark, like many of us in our working life just want to be respected & appreciated by the manager or company we work for. David Platt was a novice at management & especially man management, he was the wrong fit & I believe he didn’t understand what Forest were about. I am so pleased we’ve got Steve Cooper because he has encapsulated & revived the true ethos embedded in Nottingham Forest football club. Thanks Mark for all you’ve helped Forest achieve, you were very much appreciated by the masses.

If I was manager I’d do it the Clough way
Game don’t need to be difficult footballs aren’t let’s say most intelligent .Keep it simple play 4,4,2 Central Defenders- Cleat the ball ,head or kick it as far away from danger zone ,Give the ball to midfielders .Wingbacks -close opponent down tackle or put boot in to nick ball away ,when possible get up to link up & cross the ball . Midfield demand ball & create plus chip in with few goals ,off ball close down opponents stop opponents playing through .Wingers run at opponents beat one, two & look pick out strikers runs ,link up with wingback . Strikers simple score goals head or tap in be nuisance tread on toes. Simple Effective Football . Don’t worry about opponents shape let them worry about 4,4,2 . Cloughie said it best Football is such a simple game ,beautiful game when played correctly on the floor NOT in the air Players are too pampered how I wish for Old School Manager who ruled through fear & respect ,fear to fail with doubt going get hair dryer treatment or good boot up arse . That’s way I’d manage players didn’t like then there’s the door pick up Louis Vutton man bag & off you jog son My way the football way ,styled for men not fancy haircuts driving super-cars Home & Away show up wearing Shirt & Tie only when manager sais can switch to tracksuits.New players are taken round whole club introduced to all the staff the unsung staff Once a month players are sent round thank these people ,Once a month players serve the staff Coffee & Tea .
Install respect & humbleness appreciate the privileged lifestyle Fines aren’t financial they are chores like litter patrol ,wipe clean seats , wash team bus , Help put out training clothing ,Boot room polishing duties Youth Players Boots stuff £20 in each boot That’s how I’d run a football club On my contract NOBODY goes over managers head ,no agents given free tickets .

Back in the 90s I had trial at Luton, Mark was on lone, what a true gent he was, Bonetti ( The Cat ) was in charge of us keepers, he was such a lovely lovely man to speak to, I must say tho that I was 28 or 29 then, I was with St Albans at the time, even Bonetti said I was Fitter than Mark, but unfortunately not match fit as it turned out. I had only recently come back back from America. It was a real privilege to train with these guys, I'm sure Mark won't remember our chat, but he was a larger than life hero ! Lovely to hear his comments of Brian and how he went about his business. Happy memories of football and glad I was there on the day.

An excellent video & fair play to Mark Crosley for a very frank & honest question & answer. I like how he had respect for Brian Clough & I think Cloughie had a certain respect likewise.the FA Cup analogy is spot on..teams now pick 2nd string sides coz they save playing for Premier league. Devalue the whole thing. Well done Mark Crosley for being Frank & honest!

I met Mark once, after a match, he was a fantastic player for Forest and a really nice guy but, for some reason, Beasant was preferred at the time. I really hoped Mark would get back in and think it’s such a shame he fell out of favour. Still a Forest favourite.
