Strangely enough I am quicker in cockpit view. But racing I have to use bonnet cam or bumper. I think in cockpit view I am more patient with the throttle and tend not to over speed the corners therefore getting a better line. I think GT7 with VR will be a life changing experience for myself.
Hood cam for me. Biggest benefit: you can see your braking markers even if a you have a car in front of you. Biggest downfall: you have to switch between radar and fuel saving gauge which wouldn't be necessary if I was on bumper cam. Rear view mirror of course.
Always used bumper cam. I like my rear view mirror, unobscured view, and feels most reactive to wheel inputs to me. It's only disadvantage in my opinion is driving close behind other cars, very hard to see ahead from low bumper perspective.
Bonnet/roof cam simply because i can see my car and accurately place my wheels where i need them. Also can see ahead when side by side and behind cars and traffic.
I watched this video thinking "interesting, but I am not going to try it as I tried bumper cam when I first started gts a year ago, and I didn't care for it". I tried it anyway - beat my Tokyo quali time by .3 within a half hour! You're right mind blown!
Always used bumper cam, even when I used a controller. The camera being lower to the ground also gives an increased feeling of speed. It can be difficult to see braking points etc though when you’re right behind someone in close battles, so it does have its disadvantages too.
I 100% find I am quicker in the bumper cam, and love having the the rear view mirror. The times I switch to bonnet cam is for things like the Chicken at Dragon trail sea side, I often find I underestimate the width of the car and clip the barriers in bumper cam. It can also be harder to see your break markers in bumper cam compared to bonnet cam when racing close.
The bumper camera is perfect if you have a clean space in front of you. If things get too messy or too many cars get involved in the scene, you can't see the track. The hood camera I prefer to use when the race is very close quarter combat style ... That's it for me. As always, top content @Tidgney
Interesting. I race cockpit nearly exclusively. Though not in the modern GR1 cars, or where it isn't available. I find it easiest to judge the width of the car, though lack of visibility is hard in some cars. So is lack of rear view in others. Chase can is out of the question. Hood cam is okay to pick out the edges of the car, but lack of rear view is a big problem. Bumper view is the least obstructed, but you have no idea where the edge of the car is and turn in is compromised because you are positioned ahead of the front wheels. It would be nice if we could race in VR or at least have triple screen compatibility. GT Sport lags behind some of the other driving simulators out there.
Some of my fastest laps come from the cockpit cam, but I use bonnet cam a lot as well, chase is for replays, it’s easy to run into ppl with bumper cam the POV is off by about 7-10ft
I always used to use cockpit cam, when I switched to using manual transmission I changed to bumper cam. I don't really remember why but when I did it made me feel more attuned to the car and where it was on the track. I use bonnet cam in ACC and Dirt Rally but GT Sport's is too high, the camera's mounted on the roof half the time and cornering just doesn't feel natural.
I like bumper but find it's hard to race close behind other cars so end up going with bonnet most of the time, especially on tracks with lots of bump drafting
I’ve always used bumper cam in the past, but I never played online too much. I now use bonnet cam due to how difficult it is to gauge the braking zones when your view is obscured by opponents in online races in bumper cam…
I played GT1 and GT2 in bumper cam as a kid. I didn't play and racing games again until I got GT Sport. When I started in GTS I was using Bonnet cam, but then I switched to bumper cam and I am a little faster too. I think I agree with the kid instincts comment you made.
I also prefer bumper cam except when I need to see past the car in front, like in a slipstream train on the straight at Tokyo. There I‘m using bonnet cam, but change back to bumper before the corner.
I used bumps for years and only recently transitioned over to bonnet cam in the last year due to picking up penalties in the red bull ring . That final corner kept getting me over and over agin so I switched over and was able to have a “visual “ representation of where my tires would be and I stoped constantly getting penalties in that corner
Good video Tidge. Funny that I always used to use bumper cam on Gran Turismo 1 and 2, but when I started GT5, I switched to bonnet cam. Totally agree about cockpit being too restrictive. Never used chase cam, always seemed to Ridge Racer or Outrun like for me - too arcade like and not at all realistic, but hey, thats just me. Might try bumper cam again for a laugh, see how I get on.
I love the bumper cam alot. Especially when i drove my favorite Epson Nsx 2008. It makes me more quicker and it helps you feel the car whenever you have problems with it. 😉 x
Hey Tidgney, bonnet cam is def the best for looking where you are going, especially for racing the children from Japan who like to ram and block like the immature kids they are. It does give no rear view though. It lets you see up ahead and the apexes best. With your track guides it has given me an extra couple of seconds a lap. Bumper cam is useless once you get behind a bunch of cars. I used to drive in cockpit cam for the immersion effect, but as you proved, lack of vision. Great vid!!!
Bumper cam for me. I find that it replicates what I "see" at track days that I have done. The. brain, or at least mine, ignores everything inside the car other than the dash instruments, and in my seating positions I can't see my hood (bonnet). The rear view mirror is essential and part of "the scan."
I find bonnet cam is a nice balance between seeing where I’m going apex wise but being able to see opponents by my side and keeping clear. Bumper has a hidden box which I sometimes find hard to avoid accidentally tapping someone who to me seems far enough away.
The only issue I have with the bumper cam during races is that I feel like it puts you too low on the view. Depending on the track can make it harder to look ahead
But it makes you go faster if you really know circuit first. You just have to practice racing the line of the race track and then once youre good enough. Then you able pull it through without crashing😉. Learning the circuit first will make you more proffesional you know
Bumper cam - again as mentioned that big rearview mirror helps so much and using the dials to judge car width and the line between speed and revs as a mid car pointer means placing car on or near apex is easy.
Like you, I prefer the bonnet camera. I don't know if it was faster for me but it was more 'comforable'. When I started rally racing, the chase camera was the fastest for me. I could actually see the track ahead for braking and corners.
Cockpit cam allows in all possible games, probably since PS2 games🤣😅 I recommend increase hight to +3 or +2 warning cockpit cam is the most difficult one and in some cars you see half or non of rear view mirror
I use bumper cam, have the mirror available to use and a great view of the track. Works for me. Does create a problem when close to others rear bumper though. Still my favorite.
its mad, i always used to use bumper cam on all gt games, for some reason went to bonnet, after this vid, went back to bumper, instantly found time, much more precise on the brakes and turn in, thank you
Chase cam pleb here, the switch to hood cam when I got a wheel didn’t quite work out. I may try bumper now that my sitting position is more fitting for it 🤔
FANTASTIC video !... I was on my little own doing same experiment and then moved from bonnet to bumper vision.. now if you join the "bumper club" 😉 it will be easier for me to follow your braking point video guidelines , since perspective is different and especially those on the tarmac get much more difficult to spot on time before you actually pass them....👍
I always use bumper cam! Because then there's no car, it's me and my eyes racing on the track. Cockpit view for me is just for exhibition, to show more immersive details when I'm using the racing rig if I'm showing the setup to anyone.
Bumper cam is the closest to correct fov in GTS, your brain doesn't have to work as hard when objects on the screen are closer to the size they are in real life, this makes driving in bumper cam feel the most natural.
If bonnet cam was consistent in its height and position then I would use that but it varies so much car to car. Therefore i use bumper cam unless I am stuck right behind someone and I need to see over them where I will switch to bonnet momentarily
Was doing cockpit for a while but now I'm finding I'm doing better with chase cam but I'm gonna try the bumper cam since a lot of people say it's really good
Bumper cam guy here. Reasons 1/ the "In Your Face Hud" lets you see you speed better as it is higher up so you judge corner speed without taking eyes off the track as much and 2/ that big ass mirror means you can keep an eye on what's about to happen behind you without changing cameras. Do we have a faster Tidgeny in out future?
Controller user here so I was on Chase but recently changed to hood/bonnet cam and now I'm even quicker! haven't tried bumper cam properly as my brief stint in it I couldn't understand the width of the car
Depends on what I'm doing and which car. Drifting is: click both sensitivity and angle up from 0 up to 1 then back down to 0 again to unlock the TRUE 0 0.0 chase cam. For racing: driver seat
This video interests me. I went for bumper cam first, in the way back when times. Then started watching Super GT on YT and saw him using bonnet cam so I tried it and started using it all the time. Then I noticed that on some cars, like this RCZ for example, the bonnet cam wasn't actually a bonnet cam, rather a roof cam. And that really messed up my performance on those cars. So now, I use bumper cam all the time. The only disadvantage of it IMO is when you're fighting or driving very close to someone it's very hard to judge exactly where you are on the track. When you have to brake and such, so in these situations I quickly change to bonnet cam until the overtake is complete and then change back to bumper and start using the mirror for defending.
Bumper cam is my favoured view but the main drawback is that when you're in traffic or right up behind another car you just can't see anything... So I switched to bonnet cam. Wish it had the mirror though!
Did you adjust cockpit and chase cam in the advanced settings? Cockpit can be moved way up, down, forward, and backward and the stiffness of chase can be freed up by making the two settings 0.0. Sorry if I missed you mentioning it.
I didn't change anything, as always with these tests I just use default because that's how the game was originally designed. Maybe I could go a bit quicker changing them but then it adds a lot of time in adjusting and testing I suspect :O!
i always used bonnet view, but you might of found something, maybe its from been a kid and always using bumper view with a controller.... the good very old days.
Changed to bumber cam bout 3 weeks ago from bonnet cam... instantly faster and find the car so much easier to handle/feels like im controlling the steering alot more from the front of car... bonnet cam feels lile your steering from the middle of the car for me😃👍
I noticed bumper cam is a bit faster for me, it’s great for time trial, not so much for racing when you’re behind someone’s bumper. So I keep using bonnet cam.
I'm fine with bumper and bonnet, cockpit depends not the car. In chase I struggle with the viewing, i look at the car and not on the exit of the next turn... The problem with the bonnet is the missing mirror. The problem with the bumper is the viewing in traffic, I've a lot of problems to see my break points and turning points. My wish would to be able adapt the height of the camera in the bumper view...
I used the Bonnet Cam from Gran Turismo 4's days up to early GT Sport, then I tried the Bumper Cam out of curiosity, and I also instantly went faster by a few tenths on Bathurst and used it since. I also find it convinient as the angle and height between cars doesn't change much compared to the Bonnet Cam :D
Bumper cam is the choice for me when using a wheel but if I’m using a pad I do better using the chase cam! I think this is down to progression through the early gt games chase cam was the norm but with time the natural upgrade to the force feedback Logitech official wheels g25-29 then thrustmaster T500 the view gradually changed to the bonnet view utilising the rear view and giving me a sense of being the car rather than following it giving an all round better gaming experience in my opinion, but that’s me and I know plenty of people who still prefer the chase cam overall but the bumper cam does seem to have the edge over the rest in regards to the overall lap times even if it is only a few hundredths per lap it all adds up in a race scenario
I use the bonnet cam. It allows me to keep an eye on my dimensions and not hit people and it allows me to see a higher eye line than bumper cam. However it needs the review mirror that the bumper has, wish it was an option, maybe gt7 may improve on this, I would've liked to see the McLaren F1 in cockpit view and other as your in the middle you may have a better sense of car position
I started on chase cam but changed to bumper cam when I got serious about going faster. The only car I use a different cam with the Kart, bumper cam is too low and cockpit view is much better. 👍🏁🤘
I’m not surprised by these results at all. Bumper cam is the fastest view for me. It has the best view of the track, all the data is up high sorta like a heads-up display, and the mirror is super useful in races. The bonnet cam is useful when you are trying to get mms from the track edge without spinning on the grass or sand. But I’m most situations, give yourself a small margin of error and use the bumper cam for fastest laps
Does how much of the bonnet you see on camera add another factor in to this from car to car, for example gr3 supra is quite high, gr4 pug quite high gr4 audi tt you see less bonnet. Just curious.
Chase cam was always my choice when I was younger. I’ve switched to Bumper cam (T-cam in F1) and found that I was much faster in GT6 and F1. I still use chase cam in forza, though
I use bumper, but try following another car closely at Tokyo. I think bonnet is better for that situation as you can see more with the higher camera position
bumper cam for me. The rear view mirror is really important. If the bonnet cam had a rear view mirror I would use that instead.
Polyphony! This right here!
And the radar on the right side...that camera is tricky (bonnet).
This this this!

Biggest benefit: you can see your braking markers even if a you have a car in front of you.
Biggest downfall: you have to switch between radar and fuel saving gauge which wouldn't be necessary if I was on bumper cam. Rear view mirror of course.
I'm an A+ bumper can user. Been using bumper can since GT4. Also known as Apex cam.
Yep i can feel that mate youre 100% true!😍. I feel faster on my Epson Nsx.
I always liked more bumper cams. I love the feeling it gives.
The bumper camera is perfect if you have a clean space in front of you. If things get too messy or too many cars get involved in the scene, you can't see the track. The hood camera I prefer to use when the race is very close quarter combat style ... That's it for me.
As always, top content @Tidgney
Me too bro. I can feel the car quicker than the usual cameras. Especially when you mastered the circuit😉 x
I know it is the slowest and I hope they improve it but I love to race in cockpit view
The only thing I miss is the rear view mirror
I played GT1 and GT2 in bumper cam as a kid. I didn't play and racing games again until I got GT Sport. When I started in GTS I was using Bonnet cam, but then I switched to bumper cam and I am a little faster too. I think I agree with the kid instincts comment you made.
I use bonnetcam as it feels the most real compared to a real car. Bumpercam has 2 advantages and that is the rear view mirror and the tacho.
Use to with the bonnet cam,but recently started with bumper cam and I’m way more consistent and a bit quicker
Bumper cam for me. I find that it replicates what I "see" at track days that I have done. The. brain, or at least mine, ignores everything inside the car other than the dash instruments, and in my seating positions I can't see my hood (bonnet). The rear view mirror is essential and part of "the scan."
Adventure racing has infinite excuses now 😂
I find bonnet cam is a nice balance between seeing where I’m going apex wise but being able to see opponents by my side and keeping clear.
Learning the circuit first will make you more proffesional you know
An interesting twist... which camera would your viewers be most engaged with when you are driving?
I think bumper gives the best view due to the rear view mirror. Can see what’s coming up. I think that’s the reason Kie uses it.
Bumper cam - again as mentioned that big rearview mirror helps so much and using the dials to judge car width and the line between speed and revs as a mid car pointer means placing car on or near apex is easy.
Gooooood question!
Like you, I prefer the bonnet camera. I don't know if it was faster for me but it was more 'comforable'. When I started rally racing, the chase camera was the fastest for me. I could actually see the track ahead for braking and corners.
Cockpit cam allows in all possible games, probably since PS2 games🤣😅
I recommend increase hight to +3 or +2
warning cockpit cam is the most difficult one and in some cars you see half or non of rear view mirror
I may try bumper now that my sitting position is more fitting for it 🤔
Chase cam gang 💪🏻

FANTASTIC video !... I was on my little own doing same experiment and then moved from bonnet to bumper vision.. now if you join the "bumper club" 😉 it will be easier for me to follow your braking point video guidelines , since perspective is different and especially those on the tarmac get much more difficult to spot on time before you actually pass them....👍
Im a bumper cam too. It makes you faster as hell, especially when you know the circuit of the race track theres no problem with it💕 x
cockpit cam driver, here.. raise cam. seat height to max and move cam. forward, helps to see corner apex. will help increase area screen view.
I always use bumper cam! Because then there's no car, it's me and my eyes racing on the track.
Cockpit view for me is just for exhibition, to show more immersive details when I'm using the racing rig if I'm showing the setup to anyone.
I use cockpit for open wheelers, and group cars close to the ground. I use bonnet for Gr1 and taller cars
Was doing cockpit for a while but now I'm finding I'm doing better with chase cam but I'm gonna try the bumper cam since a lot of people say it's really good
Great vid! Make the switch. Go fast. Win lots. Good luck! I like bumper due to the big mirror, immersion, feels fast, and great vision.
Maybe :P!
I always use bonnet. But i'll definitely test bumper.
I know for certain that im not going to use cockpit or chase. So no point in even trying them.
Yup, roof cam is sometimes even off to, the Lamborghini is angled wrong xD! It has never been fixed either it's crazy :O!
Is it just me or is the bumper cam lower in gt sport compared to gt6 and Gt5?
Bonnet view feels more like roof view like it was in Gt4.
Good question, I know bumper in GT Sport is higher than PCars, that really is bumper haha!
Changed to bumber cam bout 3 weeks ago from bonnet cam... instantly faster and find the car so much easier to handle/feels like im controlling the steering alot more from the front of car... bonnet cam feels lile your steering from the middle of the car for me😃👍
I used bonnet view as per you but find bumper much faster and more direct precise action plus you get a sense of speed
I noticed bumper cam is a bit faster for me, it’s great for time trial, not so much for racing when you’re behind someone’s bumper. So I keep using bonnet cam.
I drive on bumper cam or cockpit cam (not engine hood cam)
Bumper cam from the start, always going back to that. 💪🏻
Can you not move the seat position in GT?
I always felt the rear view mirror was a bit over zoomed and made them look closer behind you than they are
There is a ton of cars where there is a sticker on the mirror saying exactly that. So 10/10 realism there I suppose
I should have mentioned that, Kart is the only one I want to see the wheel on.
Having the rear mirror is good but also can be very distracting since you always see it. Bonnet or bumper are the best in races online
Interesting thought, it will have some impact I guess :O!
@@tidgney I know for me I have to use bumper cam for cars like the gr3 supra, but I am more comfortable in bonnet cam for the majority of cars.
Bumper cam for time trial is good but when racing others you can't see anything if you are behind someone else
Bonnet/Roof cam almost always.
In other games it would be dash cam or cockpit (no wheel) if available, but unfortunately GT doesn't have that :/
