    • @aarond9563
      @aarond9563 7 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Uhh I think they're both good. I think the live version sounds a bit more natural in the sense that you can here Justin's voice a bit more and the studio synthesized version isn't as low. I think you might be conflating the performance with the synth. I think the live version is just a really good performance!

    • @mynameismark25

      do you know why? It's the "blues" live. It's impossible to be the blues on the album because it's been time gridded in protools. The timing in this live version is all fucking blues and that makes it human, even with the live pyrism thing. people love the blues man.

    The last line "God damn, turn around. You're my A-team" reminds me of the last lines of Prayer for Owen Meany when the narrator/protagonist John cries out to God to return his friend Owen from the dead... ""O God-please bring him back! I shall keep asking You." --- it is so visceral. It isn't pretty language, it isn't eloquent, it is deeply human.

    Down along the creek
    I remember something
    Her, the heron hurried away
    When first I breeched that last Sunday
    Low moon don the yellow road
    I remember something
    That leaving wasn't easing
    All that heaving in my vines
    And as certain it is evening 'at is NOW is not the Time'
    Ooh
    [Verse 2]
    Toiling with your blood
    I remember something
    In B, un-rationed kissing on a night second to last
    Finding both your hands
    As second sun came past the glass
    And oh, I know it felt right
    And I had you in my grasp
    [Verse 3]
    Oh, then how we gonna cry?
    Cause it once might not mean something?
    Love, a second glance
    It is not something that we'll need
    Honey, understand that I have been left here in the reeds
    But all I'm trying to do is get my feet out from the crease
    And I'll see you
    Turn around, you're my A Team

    • @fartboy287
      @fartboy287  7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      People have been doing it for a while now I think Justin just found a new solution that lets you do it more efficiently in real-time
      Imogen did something similar once for Hide and Seek, but Justin did it for multiple songs in an album so that's probably why his more streamlined technique is getting traction
      TBH I wish there were more songs like Hide and Seek, she never really did the same sort of thing again. This song is the closest I've come across

    • @Soekell
      @Soekell 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      fartboy287 she's constantly doing innovative things with the handling of synthasizers and other computational music stuff. This was just one thing she experimented with. But that's true, some of her Innovations I guess are starting to get to the surface of music production, and other professionals like justin start to pic these innovations and put them to its stylistic limits.

    • @smeltnight2002
      @smeltnight2002 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      there's a difference in technology. Hide and Seek uses a vocoder - something that's been used since the 70s, so not a good landmark if we're talking innovation. Love the song though. This is a different process that can't be done in the analog domain like vocoding. It's software that digitally repitches harmonies to his voice based on a midi input. And it's not something they invented, that software has also been around for awhile. But they came up with an efficient way to do it live with low latency that not many people have.

    • @KordTaylor
      @KordTaylor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is Antares Harmony Engine used in a really cool way. Francis and the Lights is known for a similar technique that I think he shared with Justin. vimeo.com/239876885

    One of those songs you just have to stop and listen to no matter what else you’re doing.

    The Chicago show version th-cam.com/video/PfT3TqW4dEk/w-d-xo.html @20:17 is also amazing. Reverb of the hall and feel of the warm crowd takes you right into it. That whole show is magic.

    This is the modern equivalent of the “close to you” cover by stevie wonder. two different eras, two masters at their work.

    I Uber at least 5 days a week and I play bon iver on a daily basis, just to try and make people feel something that they probably haven't felt before

    I can't tell if this song is depressional catharsis or just helpless ignorance. I want to believe to former. It's powerful, but damn does it put a lot on the shoulder of the audience.

    God: i felt that
    Devil: i wish i could
    Even if you cant weigh the emotions that this song touches on the pain of feeling what should be there and the simple joy of being softly loved in your most weakest form. Thoughts that come to mind in this song because its not depressing if not given the opportunity you miss the rise and fall of love and its return

    Skinny love
    Roselyn
    Creek
    8 circle
    Pdlif
    Auatc
    Holocene
    Heavenly father (sydney opera)
    Wolves
    Tower
    Hey ma
    Michicant
    Exile
