I think it's the way he divides the words in syllables and the rhythm of the sung melody that reminds of the last era, while the instrumental acoustic environment brings more of that "for emma, long ago" aura. I really hope he goes back to the falsetto harmonies for some song, for me that really added something special to his music.

My firstborn son was born the day before i first heard this. My wife and I have been together 20 years at that point, and I was pretty well convinced we'd never have children due to our age and amount of time we've been together. I hit the lowest mentally I've ever got the year before, especially around Christmas. Something about seeing all of the families and hearing the Christmas music really took it out of me. Then, that February, we found out she was pregnant. She had good easy pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy boy Jack. This is the first song he's ever heard. I don't know if Bon Iver will ever read this, but I thank you so very much for recording this song and putting it out there. The first time we heard this, my daughter was probably almost 5 months old, and crying because she hates the car seat. This song came on the radio, and within ten seconds she was quiet. And now at nearly 6 months, as long as its used sparingly, she'll quickly stop crying about 80% of the time. It's been a blessing for me as a first time father. More please!

I heard this song for the first time just the other day. I had just dropped my 15-year-old son off at a friends house and thought about how in another few days he would be getting his drivers license. He gave me a little kiss on the cheek when he said goodbye. A little out of character. This song came on the radio on my way back home and I was crying my eyes out after the first sentence. It made me think of all the things I had done wrong as a parent, and hoping I had done just a few things right.

I miss this bon iver, it’s been a wild ride over the years with different sounds - all great ones of course… but this takes me back to classic bon iver and hurts my soul in the best sense. We are still past us. They truly have grown with us all. Bon Iver just - gets us.
This is the song of the year for me. The lyrics are at least a class higher than almost all the music out there. Heartfelt, depressing, hopeful, great use of the chords, the strings. Yep. Great.

Anybody happy this sounds like old Bon Iver? Don't get me wrong - The experimentation on 22, A Million and i,i were good, but they weren't touching the lasting ache that were For Emma, Bon Iver, and Blood Bank in my opinion. This is so good.
I personally got the most personal connection out of 22, a million, but everyone’s different! With that said, as long as Justin is making music and it sounds this good, I’m just fine with how much or how little he wants to get experimental

I'm a simple guy, I see Bon Iver, I watch then I like, and then I watch again and again...
The lesson: we can make mistakes that can’t be righted, feel guilt and regret for our actions so deeply to the point where we despise ourselves, and yet, even when it seems impossible to find anything good in this haze of negative emotions, Justin reminds us that we can use these experiences (even if our actions can never be forgiven) to learn and grow become better people.

At the time he released "Bon Iver, Bon Iver", I was having a hard time falling asleep. For 3 years, I played that album every single night. Even if I was at someone else's place, I would play on my phone and put it under my pillow.

I never felt such a strong emotion from an album announcement. With his albums it's like the possibility of a new era approaching. Without even hearing it, you just know you're entering the next of his eras. It's like a promise you know he'll keep. It's like living your previous memories again through new eyes or something

I heard this song for the first time just the other day. I had just dropped my 15-year-old son off at a friends house and thought about how in another few days he would be getting his drivers license. He gave me a little kiss on the cheek when he said goodbye. A little out of character. This song came on the radio on my way back home and I was crying my eyes out after the first sentence. It made me think of all the things I had done wrong as a parent, and hoping I had done just a few things right.
Oh, I feel your heart! Was just there myself...proud of a human you made, but the guilt and regret for the times "you got wrong" is heavy.
I think God had those heavy ones, so we can just rest easy knowing we fiercely love that cub .. and he didn't think twice about most of those inadequate moments that we have. And if he does even a little, he will remember your love and fun times more than anything since from the little said in your comment I could still feel a real deal mama who can evaluate and accept the past because you'll never not keep growing up too....because your bsbyxs best interest is your whole heart.
