- Laura Bretan is from Chicago, Illinois. Encouraged by her mother, Laura Bretan has been singing in church since she was a four-year-old girl. At age seven, while listening to Disney's "Sleeping Beauty," she realized she can sing in a different manner, however she continued to sing only Christian music.
In 2014, she started to listen to other genres and to learn some arias. She fell in love with classical music and has been an aspiring opera singer ever since. She believes she can touch people's hearts with her voice and hopes she can inspire others, especially teenagers, to enjoy opera as much as she does after realizing that it is the most complex form of art. Her favorite composers are Giacomo Puccini and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Along with being American, Laura is also Romanian, born to Romanian parents. She went to Romania for her Romanian grandfather's funeral and while there, she auditioned for the sixth season of Romania's Got Talent at his wish. She eventually won the series. When she receives the cash prize, she will donate a big portion of it for orphans and to help end homelessness, two causes in which she strongly believes in.
It was always a dream to perform on the America's Got Talent stage, since the US is her birthplace.
Audition
Laura Bretan's audition in Episode 1101 consisted of singing singing "Nessun dorma" from the opera Turandot. The act received a standing ovation from Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandel. Moved by her performance, Mel B pressed her Golden Buzzer to send Laura straight to the Quarterfinals.

A 13 year old girl who got a golden buzzer not for telling a sad story (which is sometimes the case) but for having amazing talent

I can't lie if her mother taught her.. I am very curious to hear how she sounds as well. Anyone who can self teach Opera is one talented person.
I've been following Laura on TH-cam since she was 7-8 years old and her voice was a beautiful childish voice.
At the age of 10-11, when Laura's voice started to change, she began to sing opera arias by herself, without anyone's help because her parents could not afford to hire a competent voice teacher. After a while, shortly before Romanians Got Talent, Laura's mother hired the Romanian-American mezzo-soprano Nicoleta Roman from the Chicago Symphony, who guided Laura one hour a week.
At America's Got Talent 2016 Auditions Laura was very stressed and her performance was not at it's best.
In my opinion Laura is the most gifted female voice ever born on this planet. At the age of almost 11 years, her vocal capabilities were unmatched, even if he didn't have a voice teacher ( th-cam.com/video/tW7rYPvVgs4/w-d-xo.html ). Her talent is a bonus.

Opera is not about the difficult hard to hit notes: it's about the feeling. I'm from Portugal and also I enjoyed classical and Opera from a young age so I know some Italian. This girls, even if she mumbles lots of words, has the intonation and transmits the passion from the words like I don't think I've seen from such a young age. To me, this is like, have you ever as a kid been to a local fair and hear live singing for the first time? Probably it's not the best you ever heard but it struck you so real.... She strikes me in the feels like that.

I have a television broadcasting background and that performance was extraordinary!
She has a very distinct and detailed tone and diction to her singing, it's like you can truly listen to the minute details of language intonation. This is a truly beautiful thing, you can feel the depth of culture and language in each word. I know a little bit of Italian since I enjoy Opera so much, and even though she mispronounces some words she gets the underlying tone so captivatingly well :) It's a delight to listen. In particular when she says "saprà!" it just hit my core. Well done.
