I just realized this uses some of my favorite New Retrowave music. I believe Nick Hippa has also done some stuff with Dance with the Dead. Once again impeccably good taste.
So glad I was a teenager in the 80's!! Strangely enough, I was 15 driving through California (no license) at night and all the adults were asleep in the vehicle on our way to Newport Beach. Those were the days.
I'm a huge metal guy, always have been. Have never really been into electronic music. But I found The Midnight when they made this album, it changed my life forever. One of the greatest bands of this time! They will make history! \,,/
great playing, but judging by how many people in the comments think this is an original song, it seems like maybe you should have dropped a credit to The Midnight in the description
Whoa what a groove ... That blew me away Leon ! 😮 That certainly answered my little doubts if you could groove progressionaly . Igor wouldn't want to see or hear this.. that was fantastic from feel to soul mate. I think that melted the walls and wobbled the whole house . That tops your hair metal playing for me. That's what I like to play too.. I say yngvie who anytime listening to this.. and you can do both blows me away ! You should just go solo with your gift..just remember to take little Lupe Lu with ya mate , he will love LA ..Australia 🌏 ! ✌️ 😺
Had to watch this again and hear lupin say flammin bananas mate ... Such beautiful perfection in every inspiring moving note.. you definitely saw the light of LA ... As a . mailman in my early 20s id finish up many nights of overtime hours on collection run in the city ... I think i saw every foot of LA as i walked all the routes of carriers learning their routes.. kool experience.. mailmen notice everything from day to day on their particular route.. lived 2 small blocks from the Venice PO and ocean and had part of the beach front on my route .. those were days maybe youd see 5 people at the beach during the day during the wintertime.. I worked 13 hours 6 days a week and some Sunday special deliveries...the other mailmen hated me and always say slowdown you are making us look bad.. but thats why i got all the hours so i kept it up for several years and made a bundle but a lot of that went to food mindyou.. that job kept me on shape and i even got to take my wolfdog along with me on my route but not anyone else's.. that dog knew a big part of thecity and id run accros his path in amazement... I taught him how to cross streets and he was so aware of speeding cars and calm that he stop in the middle of 4 lanes and let both lanes go by.. when i first saw it i figured he was gonna be crushed and closed my eyes.. i was with a friend and he was the first to see him.. got off the subject a bit but hearing Lupin say flammin bananas and also saying you're the best reminded me of the days and night-lights of the city. 😺 Take it from us Leon , you are the best mate ! 😮😊😂❤🌏💖.. keep making all those glorious sounds like this ... 🥂
We need a colaboration between Leon and the Sunglasses Kid, like right now! I send this message to all the Greasy Guitar Lovers taking refuge among the stars. We are here. We are waiting!
Btw this was perfect timing because after an almost ten hour drive your upload literally came on during my last stretch back right when i needed a boost 😂😅😊
I would love to know how you got those high notes to sound so thick. I first noticed it on vai playing on a starone track. His notes came through like your e and an and d string in the mix.
@@LeonTodd LOL, OK Leon, that is a good excuse :) - 1986 was my graduation year from High School, so I am from the Jurassic Times. I saw many rock bands live in NYC and the most common guitars for "Shredders" were those Japanese imports like Ibanez and others. Most people just could not afford a Fender Strat, so they were using all types of cheaper guitars but modded and upgraded to their tastes. Those that could afford a Gibson or Fender, were usually guitars from cheaper Flea-markets and slightly damaged (Relic´d). BUT WHO CARES!?! As long it played and rocked !!
Listened to a blip of the original.. Yeah, dig yours better.. I'm a guitarist though LOL. Need to work on my improv chops .. have a friend that makes the synthwave ..
If you want to hear this but actually good listen to The Midnight Crystalline th-cam.com/video/3-II-NwKHeM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9Mub9Asc0E9VqH2W
You are a good bloke Leon ♥️
I just realized this uses some of my favorite New Retrowave music.
I believe Nick Hippa has also done some stuff with Dance with the Dead.
Once again impeccably good taste.
You GOTTA do more Midnight. Awesome combination of two amazing things.
FM-84's "Atlas" is also a good album. Perturbator seems a little more aggressive, but not as much as Dance with the Dead.
Saw them in concert in Philly and Boston on their most recent tour with Chromeo. No crystaline but what a show!
As an old geezer playing stuff like this to pay my bills all days during the 80s..... Spot on! (as usual 🙂)
It's Miami Vice and we're parked by the yacht docks after busting the biggest coke dealer ever
Totally! I loved Miami Vice....good times!
@warrenjoseph2605 Needs more tom fills with gated reverb tho!
…but the Nug Man got shot and we don’t know if he’s gonna make it.
So glad I was a teenager in the 80's!! Strangely enough, I was 15 driving through California (no license) at night and all the adults were asleep in the vehicle on our way to Newport Beach. Those were the days.

Damm i wanne go back to the 80ties... Great vibe !
Didn’t realize what we had back then.
I'm a huge metal guy, always have been. Have never really been into electronic music. But I found The Midnight when they made this album, it changed my life forever. One of the greatest bands of this time! They will make history! \,,/
I love The Midnight and I love your playing so this is all I need!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Cheers from Spain!
Awesome! Thank you!
I lived BIG in 1986! This stirred a couple of particularly good memories!
As a 1980's LA kid i can fully concur.
Driving in a Ferrari Testarossa ofc!
It's 2017 and you're listening to "Crystalline" by The Midnight.
Nice and tasty soloing again Leon. A solo album in the future might be great!!!
Maybe one day!
I completely love your feel, young man. Peace!
This is training montage material, sick playing man
That's a great way to put it!
great playing, but judging by how many people in the comments think this is an original song, it seems like maybe you should have dropped a credit to The Midnight in the description
Yep, fixed.
*Gunship has entered the chat*
I like how your speed is tastefully applied - complementing the groove, not overtaking it.
This absolutely smokes!!!! Great job man. Wow. Tone, taste, phrasing. Excellent
No one ever talks about how Mr. Mister pioneered this entire genre with their breakout debut single, "Broken Wings"
You make it look so effortless!
Whoa what a groove ... That blew me away Leon ! 😮 That certainly answered my little doubts if you could groove progressionaly . Thanks brother! Massively appreciate it.
“…you belong to the night”
Yeeessss. I think that is it! I just posted muppet Miami Vice vibe….
That gave me 80s movie montage vibes. Smooth playing dude.
Definitely the intro to some cool detective show
Excellent playing, and very cool track! Thanks for introducing me to The Midnight.
They are the best!
That was rockin Leon ❤
Best guitar of your collection with that sound , and it happens to be a black beauty 😍😍.. black 🖤 is beautiful !
Very nice Leon!!! Memories. I was living in Long Beach in early 80’s. You should a70’s and a90’s set.
Ah the 80's. What a great time to be alive.
Sounds great! I’m waiting for the incoming haters due to the top - they’ll be triggered. Ha
Trigger warning!!!
Wow takes me right back…graduated HS in 85 so I was able to enjoy the entire decade for all it offered 😊
Love this riffage over The Midnight's tune! Fun to see your interpretation! I hope to develop my playing style further in this way.
It's a great feeling to find a style that suits you!
Leon, you nailed the vibe! 🙌🏼

Awesome tone and playing
Instantly thought of Samboras sound in church of desire that my little Molly loved .. gotta be lupins favorite too..❤❤
We need a colaboration between Leon and the Sunglasses Kid, like right now!

Perfect!
amazing tone and playing... the vibe is just 💣💥🔥🔥🔥
This toan needs MOAR GREEEAZZ
Awesome, I like it!
That was nice! My head was bobbing up and down the whole time! You really nailed it with the title of the video.
Feeling those sick bends..... Awesome...🫶🤟🔥
Yep. You nailed it.
A little white snake and or Vai vibe? Rockon sir
That tone.
Very nice!!.. more..
U are in the zone brother ❤
I didn't get there until 87 but it was a great time to be there. Cheers to all
Wow Leon! You have created a TIME WARP…how do I get back to the present? 🎶 🎸 😈
Great stuff Leon......
Yea !!! I was there in 1986 & @ midnight, Lucky Guess Leon.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah yes, The Midnight ❤🤘🏼
Great The Midnight Synthwave
nice jam bro! 🤘
Hell yeah! I need to rip that backing track!
John Sykes - The godfather of these sounds. Okay, Steve Lukather has a hand in it too.
Sykes, Luke, Landau 🤘
For me it's more St Kilda but the vibe is spot on.
I'm still living in 1986. Except for the days when I'm living in 1977.....
So moody with just the right amount of melancholy. I know the adjective is a bit overused when it comes to guitar, but if the shoe fits...: tasty.
Killer, Leon. Reminds me of Gunship 🤘
Thank The Midnight!
Its like those insane guitarsolos on Journey‘s Raised on Radio Album
Schon is a god
@ of course and you nailed the vibe
Midnight reverberations
That was nasty. I love it.
Getting big Miami Vice vibes of Crocket driving his white Ferrari across Miami thinking of a case or a girl he knows he can’t be with…..
I’m getting endless summer vibes
Sounds about right lol
I would love to know how you got those high notes to sound so thick. I first noticed it on vai playing on a starone track. His notes came through like your e and an and d string in the mix.
Neck pickup into a high gain amp with some kind of soft clipping body in between (SD1 ❤)
Back in the day I used to drive around looking for killer weed, now I drive around looking for weed killer ... SUX!!!
Please take me back to 1986 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great one!!! Just spared some money as an old fart to build a 80s dream rack. Just to find someone in EU to school me .....
Hello from oh, nice guitar
I bet Royce Whitaker will be onboard for a synthwave shred collab with you 😁
That would be cool!
You got the vibe right. But needs a a Rockman for authenticity.
Big big tone 💪💪💪... That it's fractal ?
Thku
Yes indeed!
@LeonTodd 💪💪💪💪
Neil Schon like phrasing, or whomever played on a Frank Stallone record in the studio.
I love that guitar. Which PRS is that?
2008 Sc245 :)
Actually, it was 1978, and I was driving home through Bakersfield early one Sunday morning...
Sounds awesome, but what 80's car are we all driving? For me it's a charger
72 VW BUG
1,000 watt stereo
I wish you could see it 🤠
IROC Z28 in metallic blue with a white interior. 😊
Lamborghini Countach.
or you are playing GTA Vice City and Lazlo's station is playing Leon
Which mode were you primarily using here, Leon? Lydian?
This is pretty much all natural minor
Oh yeah lets do it 🤘🤟🤘⭐🎸🎸I love this song 😊😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤘🤘⭐🎸🎸😊😊❤❤I think i record myself solo over it that song with guitar and my mooer ge 1000 😊😊🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😊
Michael Sembello eat your heart out.
I assumed you'd be playing a cover of "Driving at Night". Not of This Earth was released in 1986 😂
Where can we find the actual backing track you used to improv over Leon?
In 1986 ALOT of guitar players were not using a PRS.
I was also -2 years old 🤣

0:38 sounds like the game of thrones theme a bit. 😅
🤣
GTA vibes
Sykes
Not a pinky guy, obviously
It’s 1986 and I’m driving in L.A. I’m 6 years old and don’t know how to drive manual transmission 😎
I also can't reach the window at the drive through
great, but it would have been more authentic with a super strat :D
It's 2024 and people don't know which bathroom to use.
Listened to a blip of the original.. Yeah, dig yours better.. I'm a guitarist though LOL. Need to work on my improv chops .. have a friend that makes the synthwave ..
How old would you have been Leon?
-2
Every end to 80s action movies, and the wrong has been righted…for now
I belong to the night.😎
