The end of the story is actually rather sad. The Death Knight and the girl fell in love and had triplets. The pregnancy was hard, but they managed. They spent a few years together caring for their kids. One day, another player character ran into the garden girl. Sadly, while trying to figure out the controls, he slayed garden girl, leaving death knight alone to care for his 3 kids.
He swore an oath to find the player character who took his precious wife away from him and avenge her death.

There was a novel I read once on RoyalRoad about something like this. MC was this rejected shadow demon who got banished to some human kingdom for reasons I can't remember. And old widow comes across him and takes him in cares for him. Turns out she considered the village healer but lived a lonely life after her husband died from an incurable illness when she was much younger, so she focused the rest of her life on learning about healing/herbology to take care of any diseases. She "raises" the shadow demon like her own child and teaches it about her healing skills and the world and suggests he goes out and discover the world soon. Naturally, she dies shortly after and the story picks up from there. Had a horrid release schedule so I stopped following it.

As a Death Knight main in WoW, this is exactly how it feels like doing quests helping random villagers go about their day. I sometimes imagine how disappointed the Lich King would be that I took some time off from fighting the Legion to help some Tauren gather fruits.
EDIT: Apparently this is *exactly* how it feels like to be a Death Knight in Dragonflight rn. I enjoy the game, but goddamn does the tone of the expansion make you feel out of place.

This is one of those things that always makes me crack a smile in mmos. Like an undead warlock who's literally summoning demons has the exact same quests as the holy paladin and nobody bats an eye.
Meanwhile Holy knights or clerics are send out there to Kill people, animals and what not and they be like: this is Against all that my religions stand for!

I always liked the ragefire-quests as an (undead-)warlock in (Classic-)WoW. "There are warlocks who want to summon demons and stuff! Infiltrate them!" - "yeah... I guess, I'm going to 'infiltrate' these demon-summoning bad people... What? No, Thrall, I would never betray you or the horde... I'm just a nice undead warlo... uhm... mage?! What? Noooo nonono, this isn't a demon. It's a magical illusion so I can infiltrate them better! You see, I'm fully dedicated!"

I just can't get enough of this skit. Everything is just absolutely perfect. Ben's makeup, outfit, and voice - perfect. Phoenix' lines, outfit, "Great job!" - perfect. The music playing behind - perfect. Ben life draining the two muggers (I guess they were on their way to mug Phoenix) - priceless. Ben booping Phoenix' nose and them both having a little giggle afterwards - by the Light, that's so adoreable I can't even spell.
As a side note - I blame these "NPC skits" for me emoting /thank at every friendly NPC I interact with.
I think this is the single most likable character ben has played.

Hell, back in Pirates of the Caribbean Online I was one of the Siege defense captains, inspiring players before the fights, getting the musket formations set up at safe distances, calling retreats when powderkeggers got close and reviving those who were caught in the blast.

@@Pro_Butcher_Amateur_Human During my Death March campaign of TW3 I always detested how a level 30 main quest would unlock a level 19 side quest, specially since I was usually level 35 by then. Yet I did get to use all the sweet new moves on the enemies, so I just enjoyed the chance to have fun.

@@albrown7977 Well... if its D&D then a death knight could of actually been granted undeath by a demon lord such as Orcus or even Demogorgon in exchange for their unwavering fealty to them. However with that being said most of the time becoming a death knight is due to a Paladin betraying their chosen deity and then being subsequently cursed by said deity with undeath until they eventually atone for their misdeeds.. Honestly its kind of harsh as punishments go but they still have every chance to redeem themselves and you have to do some pretty messed up stuff to be cursed in the first place.
I absolutely love Phoenix’s voice. It is so soothing. Best character/role for Ben btw.

I love how it highlights the absurdity of some quests in relation to the character, in WoW you can be undead and yet wander around towns and such doing simple everyday tasks. "Wait, let me get some flowers for my potion at the local market" paying the florist some silver coins while your flesh is basically falling off the bones.
In divinity 2 if your undead you have to wear a helmet or everybody turns hostile to you

I feel like a quest like that would be too unique for most MMOs. If that were an actual quest it would be something stupid like: "Oh no, my cat Mr. Fluffy ran away. Please help me find him as I stand here and do nothing. Oh good, you found him somewhere in town! Oh no, I lost him again! Could you go find him an additional three times? Thank you adventurer! Here are 13 gold coins, 40 xp, and three pieces of garbage common ingredients."

Even Deathh Knights have standards, they don't skip NPC dialogue and they help pretty ladies pick flowers.

The backstory for World of Warcraft deathknights work with such behaviour, they didn't choose their fate. They do however live in constant pain, a pain that can only be dulled by violence.

I like to think that this "side quest" is actually part of his story as an unlockable bonus where the real reward is true happiness for him, bless that npc
Dark Knights in FFXIV used to be secret executioners for a church, even though your character can become one way after they have been unacknowledged and nigh forgotten, you would still engage in a lot of killing and betrayals.
That being said, SE decided to include a tiny quest at the end of their story that just involves you running errands and delivering letters as you coincidentally encounter everyone you have helped as a Dark Knight. Similar to this video, it is peaceful and the people thank you for your past deeds, it was a nice closure for what l consider the best job questline in the game.
