I am a new quilter, and my grandma has been teaching me but she lives far away so I only get to be in the same room with her maybe twice a year. I love gnomes and went ahead and joined this club and was so excited to learn as I went. When I told my grandma, she said that this would probably take me more than a month per wall hanging and that really discouraged me, so I appreciate this video and sharing "intuitive" things to make this accessible to beginners like me. Thanks!!!
You're very lucky. I bought their Valentine club and it came with fabric and no instructions. I'm 75 and I'll probably leave these to my daughter who doesn't sew at all. She'll sell them or throw them way. I would have never spent soooo much money without the video to show me how. Never again!
@suem5213 so sorry that happened to you, did you try reaching out to them? It definitely should have instructions, I would have been so upset and demanded my money back.
@@haylaebayyes, I did reach out and was told they couldn't do instructions on each quilt that goes out. I just needed to look at their tutorials on how to do appliqués. I've received all but two now and have put them in a box in my sewing room. I'm not angry about it, just disappointed I wasn't given this information before I bought it. I even bought their light box which was not cheap but knew they showed it in some of their videos. First time shame on me, second time it won't happen. Best wishes!
@@suem5213that surprises me because I’ve done several of their series and everything has come with cutting guides, color charts, and very detailed instructions. So sorry that happened to you. I do love the detailed videos!
Watched again after getting the kit and glad I did. I put it together quickly after I remembered to peel the paper off the pieces. Now it is time to run to the quilt store and get double sided adhesive batting. Kris the gnome is so darn cute.
A wonderful tutorial! I'm 70 years old and it's fun to learn alternative techniques. I attended a class where we used pattern ease to create a collage. It was fine until I added the background pieces behind the collage pieces. There wasn't a good way to fuse the edges before adding the background pieces. My outer collage pieces shifted and required reassembling. Your method of using the mat to pre-fuse will be what I do in the future.
When I saw these gnomes I knew I just had to make them. Mine arrived on a Tuesday and I had it on display (a little early for Christmas) by Friday. It went together so quickly and it was easier than I thought. I did not order the thread but wish I had. The video had some very useful tips too. I am looking forward to making one for each of the remaining 11 months! Thank you for a fun project that will last a lifetime!

This is a great idea to show us what these patterns are like to deal with before we purchase the kits. These are so cute....I may have to purchase them from the block of the month people . I love it.
Y’all have the BEST BOM kits. I’ve never run out of fabric, which is really important, and I love how organized the patterns are. I’ve already pre registered for this one. This will be my third BOM series with Shabby. I’ve avoided appliqué like the plague over the years, but after Covid retirement, I wanted/needed the challenge! You took me out of my comfort zone with the pint sized table runners, and now the paper pieced minis and I’m so happy about that. I can’t wait to do the gnomes! If I can do it, anybody can do it!
