    Looks really good and great job , only thing personally is I would of repaired the bugger wheels and gone with them but great job on all of it.

      Thanks for the great comment. I do agree with you on the wheels. The reason I went back to stock was because the wheels aren't that strong and had to have them repaired twice in a 2 years due to cracking. I also thought that the van would sell better as more 'stock' appearance.

    Wow, quite a nice job. BTW your gearbox replacement video helped me a lot when I did the conversion from 5 speed to 6 speed on my 2011 2.0 TDI, and I have about 3k miles on the "new" gearbox. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks for the comment. Great news about your gearbox it makes it all worth it if it helps someone else out.

    Great job, it looks amazing, so much better than the original!!!
    When doing the wheels, did you dismount the tyres from the rims? I have the same wheels that are looking very tired. My van is the same colour too, so I'm currently painting a spoiler and a few other parts. This video really helped me. Thank you.

      Thanks so much for the great comment. Great question on the wheels. I knew that by respraying the wheels it would mean they were going to be quite a bit more delicate compared to a newly power coated wheel. So I went my local tyre garage and got them to pop the tyres off the beed (rims) but not take the tyres off. The reason being is that a tyre machine will come into contact with the rim of any wheel whilst putting the tyre back on the rim and if I'd just repainted them then they would certainly sustain damage. Popping the tyre off the rim gave me room to mask up between the tyre and the rim and also ensure no over spray on the tyre. Good luck with your van hope it all goes well!

      @@SlightlyModifiedUk That's exactly what I was thinking, much easier with the tyre out of the way. I look forward to any future T5 videos you may do!

    Love your t5 it's fantastic! Only thing I didn't like was the smaller alloys preferred the other ones. But I guess that's personal choice. BTW just subscribed 👍

      Thanks for subscribing! I actually agree totally with you on the wheels, however as I'm selling the van I felt it would be worth more with the stock wheels. The other reason was the alloy wheels I had on their before cracked twice and I had to keep having getting them repaired. They weren't great quality and did also rub the arch liners.

    Great job. My T5 is a red van that has turned pink even after t cutting and polishing, can't do any more polishing as the undercoat is poking through. Got a bit of rust in some places as well. Maybe you have already covered tools that you used, I have just found your channel, and I was wondering about the compressor you used, sprayer and paint used. I saw a really nice transporter the other night, it was a metallic deep cherry red and I would love to change the colour of mine, although it might cause a few issues with the V5 logbook.
    Thanks for the videos, inspiring me to do mine.

      Thanks for the comment. The compressor is actually one I got from lidl supermarket, yes it's a really basic and cheap machine but worked perfectly for spraying the van. Only advice I can offer on that front is get yourself a water trap so the air is dry enough for spraying. The spray gun was a cheap sealey gun which cost me £35 it did have some really good reviews and as it turned out it worked great for me too. The paint I got off of eBay premixed and all I did was send them my paint code. Message me if you want to know the exact seller I used and I'll forward you their details. If your on the fence with weather to take a spray gun to your van or not then the best advice I can offer is to practice on something other than your van to begin with. Maybe an old wing or something. Seeing the results of that will help your confidence no end. Hope this helps and best of luck!

    Why didnt you prime the van before spraying

    • @SlightlyModifiedUk
      @SlightlyModifiedUk  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. It boils down to probably 2 main reasons. Firstly if the old paint is OK and after a sand it is flat enough and not down to bare metal then base coat will lay down on it totally fine. From my research it appears that this is often how pros go. Secondly cost, it is a big van and if I were to prime it properly then that would equate to about 4 or 5 extra ltrs of paint which would have blown the budget.
