Glad you think so. When I see the landscapes of other countries I think Ireland is not that special sometimes. It's weird, I always feel bad that people will come here and be dissappointed.
So much of what is great about Ireland is hard to put into words. It "feels" different than other places I have been. I am looking forward to exploring it over and over again!
my family is from here im actually visiting ireland right now. But going back in 2 days, i dont want to leave i love it here nice people nice food nice weather etc i kind of love it here and i suggest for anyone to come to ireland it is amazing!
The laneway where Kytelers is different to a late 1990’s photo I saw online. In that photo there were cars however 24 years later it has been pedestrianised.
When in Kilkenny you must have dinner at The Ketlyers Inn. The most amazing Irish pub, great food, the lamb stew and fish and chips were the best I had on the entire trip. Also live band playing traditional Irish folk music with storyteller in between the songs. Ended up staying for 4 hours because it was so much fun.
Glad you like Kilkenny ! I'am from Kilkenny and it's great to see other people enjoying the city. I agree, some people do curse a lot here, but it's just casual don't take offence to it !
Have a preprandial drink at the Left Bank pub and then a fantastic dinner right next door at Rive Gauche….did this in September when visiting Ireland. You won’t be disappointed!
Ketylers brilliant. The Left Bank sensational. The hotels are lovely the castle is awe inspiring. It is also the cleanest place I have ever seen. The walk along the River Nore is beautiful. People are extremely polite very understanding and helpful. If you want to go outside Kilkenny City Thomastown is beautiful and Castlecomer discovery park is great especially if you have kids. Every time I go Kilkenny gets better.
Wife and I stay in Kilkenny at least 3 days every year late Oct. around Halloween. We get a room at the River court with a balcony with castle view. Kilkenny is our dream place to live . We love Matt the Millers , Dylan’s whiskey bar ,walking the castle grounds and along the river right after breakfast. Do yourself a favor and stay more than one day.
A video about Kilkenny and Waterford have to try hijack it. That famed inferiority complex never fades does it Waterford coastline is nice but no way the best in the country. That copper coast drive is boring as fcuk
My Grandma used to live in Rothe House when she was a kid over 60 years ago. Went and visited Kilkenny with her and met the Mayor who welcomed her back to her old house (now a museum as you said).
Trying to go to Ireland because I enjoy a pint of Smithwicks and we adore an Irish Pub in Fairfax Va. Now we have a city to visit. Thank you for the great videos and guides!
If you're still in Ireland or whenever you come back you should check out Hook Lighthouse in Wexford. It's the Worlds oldest functioning lighthouse and great for a family day out. There's also Loftus Hall in the same area which is a Haunted house where they have tours. On the way down to Hook Lighthouse you can do a Tour of the Dunbrody Famine ship in New Ross (There's nothing else of interest in New Ross) and the Kennedy Homestead. Overall Wexford is a nice county with some nice countrysides and beaches.
Wexford is beautiful but we have the Jameson centre in Midleton and amazing local food in sage who have a 12 mile ethos .Everything served is grown within 12 miles of Midleton.
Come back soon and check out the Mega Mosque planned for Hebron Rd Kilkenny , please people Email Kilkenny County Council and tell them you will never visit again if this jihadist monstrosity is built .
Irish for Kilkenny is Cill Chainnigh, which translates to church of Cainnech, you will notice that with a lot of Irish place names, which look confusing in English but once translated are fairly simple.
Many place names in ireland start with kil .Its the english spelling for cill which means church. There is kildare killarney killybegs killenaule. It can also be coill which means a forest .There is a joke about a man in the north of ireland stopped by the police and asked where we came from he said kilinaman and where he was going which he said kilmore
I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time out to make these videos! I find these videos very informative and helpful and I get a little insight to different parts of the world 😄 keep up the good work!
Perfect timing! I’m helping my sister plan her trip to Ireland and we were just talking yesterday about staying in Kilkenny. This video just decided that! 😊
I got a rental car at Dublin Airport and made the (easy) drive in 90 minutes. Parking is relatively inexpensive in Kilkenny and their are several good B&B's and restaurants there. Very walkable and many interesting sights (Castle, Church Tower, etc.)
i was born in England but my mum was born here. i have visited Dublin but not here and will definitely will visit in next few months. Thankyou for your useful tips - You guys, are amazing 😆
you have to go! i was born in england, but my grandad is from there, i have gone there every yeah my whole life. the people...... the places...... i cant explian in words how great it is. if you go... eat in langtons in kilkenny great food and check out carlow small town near by p.s. the irish have mastered the potato every way!
We we love this place, my wife and I were literally just there last week on February 26-28 and we stayed at the Jerpoint Studio Apartment in Thomastown (Highly recommend it we had an excellent host). We really enjoyed all of your videos. :)
If you saw our old Ireland videos I didnt have the nicest things to say about the food and I am glad to admit things have changed and there is some good grub in Ireland
@@woltersworld I know I am four years late but there is a wonderful local microbrewery called Sullivan’s Brewing Company and they sell their beer in local central pubs such as Kytelers Inn, Kilkenny house O’ Gorman’s, the pumphouse they are based in 15 John street lower near the railway station. The brewery corner pub near the Smithwicks experience is a tied house for the Bengalstown based O’ Hara’s brewery. The Kytelers inn serves all four of Sullivan’s beers. Their Pale Ale launched in 2021 as the summer ale, their Golden Ale, their award winning Brewing Industry International Awards 2017-2018 best keg ale Irish red ale and their Marble city stout. After the Smithwicks experience I went to Kytelers inn and had half a pint of Sullivan’s red ale. Far superior stuff to Smithwicks red and Kilkenny ale both of which ceased to be brewed in Kilkenny in 2013. Their is also Costello Brewing in Kilkenny. It says a lot that you can be in a pub whose structure is older than the United States of America and drinking an internationally award winning keg ale that was brewed only a few hundred metres away. On the way back I encountered an Irish speaking family. Which ties into the fact there were Irish speakers in the county at least until the late 1940’s and it was once part of the kingdom of Osraí which lasted from 150 to 1541.
Kilkenny is amazing was just there this weekend, everyone is so friendly. Can't wait to go back. Perfect day trip from Dublin - only 1.5 hours. Love the Smithwicks!
These are great tips! I just posted a video from my trip to Kilkenny. I'm a musician and travel vlogger, and I'm doing a tour where I'm only performing in hostels. The Kilkenny show was so much fun!
Thank you very much you videos are great and helpful my wife and and I are going to drive clockwise from Dublin down to Kilkenny and beyond and Kilkenny will be our first port of call
I had never heard of this place until I saw this video a while ago. Now it's on our Ireland trip plan! Going to stay the day and night before out flight out from Dublin, should be a pretty easy drive the next morning
I really recommend visiting The Hole In The Wall bar. I'm Irish and I've never been in one like it, and it makes for a nice change from the somewhat commercial bent of Kilkenny nightlife.
Thank you for the great video of my home city. Also, for some information for tourists visiting Kilkenny, the castle hosts an @parkrun each Saturday morning at 9:30am
Request: I'd love to see a video on easy-to-pack-and-carry gifts for people you meet while you're traveling. Nothing fancy or expensive, just thoughtful little thank you gifts for someone who helps you or treats you to a meal, things like that.
one of the most beautiful cities in Ireland. If you do visit Dublin, Killennys definitely worth the trip being only approximately 1hr 20mins outside the city.
Great video, you've got a bit of catching up to do, I've been to KK approx 30 times, going again on Thursday. The people are great, the beer is great and you can sample fantastic food if you leave the Guinness alone long enough. Great place, especially for watching sport, pubs will be packed and the atmosphere fantastic.
saw your post ages ago that you were going there and i was going to Ireland to do a Dublin / northern island trip and was hoping for tips before i went and you only just posted a video xD ... I did indeed go to Kilkenny though day tour on a coach trip was great and the churches are truly spectacular!
Céad míle fáilte, great video, thank you for showing our beautiful county and the medieval mile. Keep up the good work, i love your videos. The next time your back in Ireland try get to a hurling match if you can, its well worth the experience. Best wishes from Kilkenny :D
Also check out, cycling and walking tours. Festivals, Americana roots, craft beer, comedy, arts, animation and film. Michelin star restaurants, Boutique hotels etc Also a decent live music scene
Kilkenny was a cute little town⚘I recently took a bus tour there and it was free to tour the castle that day! 😁 I did have time to eat a pastry and have a fresh smoothie at a place called The Flaky Tart , a very laid back and cozy place🍰 not far from the castle.
I'm from Kilkenny and there are a number of multi-storey car parks within the city centre. Parking should not be an issue when visiting. The best way experience Ireland is by car as our public transport isn't the best.
if your in kilkenny go into the multi-storey carpark where i work & go right to the top as you'll get a great view of Kilkenny Castle & other high rise historic buildings aswell as a view of the countryside in the distance, i always send the tourists up when i get chatting to them & also made facebook friends with some of them as i forward pictures i have taken up there at different times of year to them, they love it
HeyNadine shouted out your comment question on one of her last videos, i womder did she realise you are also a big travel channel lol hope you enjoy my home country and us Irish give you good hospitality!
We are planning a trip to Kilkenny in March. My great great grandparents are from their. Their last name was Kennedy. They are buried in a church yard their. How hard is it to find out some genealogy and maybe find which church?
Being a proud Scotch-irish lass..I'm dying to go to Ireland. Which I could if I would only stop visiting Disney. So ok..after my Disney trip in 2021 (it is their 50th anniversary after all)..I'm going to the land of my people!
Hey wolter! Nice representation of my hometown! Really cool video. Just mispronounced a few things. Roth house- pronounced like rowth house. Canines- canesis, kytlers- kitler's. But being from kilkenny it was cool seeing a different perspective! 😎👍

My 5th great grandfather Thomas White was born in KilKenny before coming to America.

Fish & chips and peas were awesome as was the trad music. There are still heel prints from my pals dragging me out!
Were they serving raw oysters?
Great local brew as well
Glad you like Kilkenny ! I'am from Kilkenny and it's great to see other people enjoying the city. I agree, some people do curse a lot here, but it's just casual don't take offence to it !

I came here after watching Wolfwalkers (2020) which took place in Kilkenny. Looks like a nice Irish city to visit alongside Cork.
Me too 🍀🍀
One thing to definitely check if you come here is the sport most people are amazed when they watch hurling for the first time

@Angel G. Kilkenny is a CITY not a town. It became a CITY in 1609 and was the medival capital of Ireland.
@@Mydaboom Officially its a city but it has the population of a big town
I'm from Kilkenny and there are a number of multi-storey car parks within the city centre. Parking should not be an issue when visiting. The best way experience Ireland is by car as our public transport isn't the best.
This is really cool to see how a tourist experiences cill chainnigh.
We were just there in June 2017. Loved it!

You've been to Kilkenny five times and you don't know how to pronounce Rothe (ROW-th) House or Saint Canice? (Like Candice without the D)
