It was so hard to give recommendations because (G)I-DLE has rarely put a major focus on fashion in their music videos. It's usually focused towards fitting the concept and relaying the message of the song- that's it. So it usually wouldn't be the most extravagant or expensive, it was meant to work with the song. Latata...the focus was neither I can't lie 😭 The stylists were probably recycling clothes lol (I did warn you about this one 💀). Thanks for the reaction as always George! Uh-Oh still remains my favourite amongst these songs.
Also very important thing about Latata is that thay had almost no budget. It was Cube experiment whether giving Soyeon trust in her production skills will be successfull. She was i think first female kpop leader to write a debut song at last under cube.
I've watched the OH MY GOD mv sooo many times, but i genuinely didn't even notice that the group was split in half for the twisted version and the angelic version!
Señorita was actually a collaboration with the makeup company Kaja, you may enjoy it a lot, their fashion is on-point and the music has Spanish inspiration! Also, small info drop, Soyeon decides on the fashion concepts and Nail designs for all their title MVs. Hann (Alone) is another interesting fashion MV, it was very... Bohemian? Colorful to say the least. By the way, I love the word "Vampoweric". Never heard it before, but it sets an image in my head immediately!
(G)I-DLE whole discography is so good. With only a few skips imo but they have a top tier discography. Also Soyeon had the best outfits up until I’ll say HWAA era maybe. But even then she had the better outfits in imo. Only recently they started having better fashion amongst all the members. Even tho the styling in Uh-Oh was great despite the controversy
yayyy! you admitted they have skips! I absolutely love their music, but they hit so many different styles and vibes its obvious not every song is going to hit for every person. even better is that every song that is some ones least favorite is absolutely someone else's top song! I don't like whats your name on i made that much, but I've seen people list it as their fave of the album and i see it happen every album
To be fair their “ skips” are more to do with the experimental style they go for that obviously can’t appease everyone and not that the song itself is “ bad” . I enjoy many of the songs others deem as “ skip” and dislike some of the songs others applaud. I love that Soyeon is willing to take risks for her art.
@@judithkim4050 I’m not a big fan of Senorita, and I think Luv U. But I think that’s all. But even then they’re not bad songs it’s just not for me. I’m alright with What’s Your Name but it’s not favorite nor is it my favorite off their album. But that’s ab it
@@emanymton713 I agree. In fact the ones I consider skips are the ones that are more the experimental side but that’s only 2 songs. But even then they’re not bad songs. And I appreciate Soyeon for her artistry and versatility. It’s not very presence in K-pop unless you count RV and maybe a few others but K-pop artists usually stick to two opposite sides of the same spectrum.
(G)-IDLE were my first kpop group, I'm so glad to see your reactions to some of their earlier music! * *cries in Neverland* * Oh My God was a song for the gays, you can argue with the wall, And also? Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm 99% sure that (G)-Idle comes up with thier own concepts, along with being self produced
You're right I-DLE brings their concepts on the table For the title track and so main concept, it is Soyeon who bring both the song and concept (with a full PowerPoint presentation, songs mainly inspired by the members and tailored on their vocals) also with fashion, nail art, choreography, etc, then it is discussed with the company and of course the members who help in the fashion, sometimes choreography and always in the storytelling for the albums since I BURN (especially Minnie, which sounds quite expected since she is the second producer of the group) Especially here Uh Oh, Lion, and Oh my God concepts and fashion are known as being created by the group (less senorita or Latata concepts and fashion who likely are brought by the company/cosmetic brand partner)
Thanks for doing (G)-IDLE. I've been waiting for this one for a long time. The amount of versatility they have in both music and concept and the attention to detail they put into their comebacks is fascinating. And when you remember that most of it is Soyeons doing... Queens Now i apologize in advance for the long comment but: Latata - While i totally understand and agree with you i kinda get why the styling is the way it is. It was their debut song and it supposed to be fun and quirky. Idk why but koreans usually love the crazy, mismatch styling and it get revived from time to time, most recently during the 2016-2018 period (just remember the last group looks from Boombayah 😅). Just think of it like a right of passage for every group and pretend it didn't happen. 🤷♀ Uh-Oh - Love the styling and the vibe. Like you pointed out it's so on trend right now but ironically back then it wasn't received so well which is such a shame. Lion - This actually wasn't a real comeback. It was their final song for the show Queendom (which i'm still kinda salty they didn't win) and the MV was made in 2-3 days because it was just so impactful. Like you noticed the plain looks are there to represent rags since at the begining they are hunted, hurt or in captivity and are only for show, to be pretty, but as the story progresses they break out of the mold and show their true selves. Fun fact: Soyeon designed the royal looks with every member in mind, that's why every piece is unique. OMG - What i love about this is that it's both beautiful and makes you think. The story pretty much comes down to Soojin tempting and more or less "corrupting" the other girls. Also now i can't get the Kylie Minogue comment out of my head (lame pun intended 😅).
The English version of “oh my god” is waaaaaay gayer this group is outstanding and I truly love their concepts. Thanks for the content. I love watching your analysis it makes me understand some choices in styling better.
First off, George, you look fantastic but then again, what else is new? Killing it as per usual! I-dle and Blackpink are tied for second place when it comes to my favorite groups. I actually got to see them perform in NYC back in August. I do hope you get to see them in concert someday. For Latata, the stand out stylings for me were Soyeon's red outfit and then her badass rocker chick outfit with the mesh and torn jeans. Soojin's intro with the pink see thru top with black bra and the skirt with the guns were fire. My eyebrows were singed just by watching. But I love these girls so much, they could be wearing dusty potato sacks with holes cut for the arms and head and I'd still propose on bended knee. I've no idea for sure but I think the stylists were fired after Latata because Uh-Oh was a night and day improvement. Lion had them introduced in ultra minimalist outfits and bare feet. Makes me feel that if they would be completely bare for those scenes. After all, lions don't wear clothes. Soyeon behind bars is pretty much a caged lion/lioness. But of course an MV like that would never make it past the censors. I'm still confused at it being Lion instead of Lioness but that's an extra syllable and it really doesn't fit the flow. Could it really be that simple of an explanation? I don't know. And actually don't care that much. The song is still amazing. THEY are amazing. Oh, My God? Yeah. Everyone says that when they see this MV. Your face when the chorus dropped... Nobody's mouth was closed during it. If they were, they were not human. That MV is PURE ART. Creepy, dark, beautiful and sad. I also want to say I'm ot6 for I-dle. I will forever miss Soojin being a part of this group and I love how they've included her in symbolism, lyrics and even an animated character since her unjustified departure. Thank you so much for this I-dle marathon. Big love from across the pond! I'd do the two hand heart sign but for some reason, that is only available on my phone and I'm currently on my PC. But pretend you see it. -Andrew
About the meaning of lion and not lioness. Lion is the king of the jungle, but lioness is not considered the queen of the jungle. A bit of a dumb thing, but this is an idiom. By calling themselves lions, they are insinuating that they are rulers.
The initial styling of I-DLE was an attempt to emphasize the "different personalities" aspect of their name. Eventually, the group was able to assert its individual members through their V-LIVE and "I-SERIES", and their increasing success led CUBE to unite their image as a group.
another thing i really appreciate abt gidle styling is that they tend to keep the body types of the girls in mind and rarely do members get outfits that don't flatter their figure while this is something that i've seen happen a lot with other groups where the members that don't have hourglass/inverted triangle shape tend to not get outfits that suit them as well
As you may have known, IDLE is a group that conceptualizes everything including makeups, accessories, and even nail designs. You can observe more of their fashion on their performances since they mostly use the same dress in the MVs. There are also the concept photos for their albums. In LATATA, you are correct with the confusing comment. And it was supposed to be like that. Just like the MV itself it just doesn't make any sense such as the tennis match where a teddy bear, bowling ball, and others are thrown instead of just the tennis ball, the pink horse in the middle of warehouse, the taking of half their things to sell it back to them. It was because their name I-DLE sounds like "AIDEUL" which means "children" in Korean, thus they made it playful and just wanna have fun even without connecting to the meaning of the song. This was also affected due to the low budget the company provided (since this was only their debut). They literally had to shoot on the backstreets of hawkers (local food shops in Singapore) where there were trash bins, rusty metal boxes, crates, etc. LATATA was also created in rush since their debut was delayed because the company didn't even have a song for them. They were supposed to debut on April 2018, but was pushed to May 2, 2018, and this was thanks to Soyeon who created LATATA. ~~ In UH-OH, they didn't have a lot of the black outfits probably because of the dusty and windy location shoot ~~ LION is actually a song created for a competition called QUEENDOM, thus this was a special MV for the fans. It is true with the rags to riches to royalties theme, especially following their organic growth with each songs. Them having the nude and plain clothes is actually connected to one of their Queendom performance called "Put It Straight - Nightmare Version", where they wore simple red dress, have messy hairs, simple (then smudged) make ups, and were barefooted. Soyeon explained that girl groups were supposed to be cute and sexy and pretty all the time, so they showed them that even being a "mess" they can still be beautiful, and even they are barefooted, they can still dance gracefully. For me, Queendom is their turning point where they convey messages and statements breaking down the standards and prejudice (Soyeon's rap in LION, and Soojin's tattoos being shown) ~~ OMG plays with the concept of white and black thus their album versions LIE and TRUE respectively. A WHITE LIE is often showed so that others will accept us, and the DARK TRUTH is often hidden because no one likes it, however it was our true selves.
I’m glad you mentioned the word “clinical.” I’m a queer person who grew up in an evangelical background. When I realized that this song has queer connotations, the intro with Minnie being dragged off wearing white smeared with black struck me as a sort of attempt at institutionalization. When she ends the song with even more black smears, lying in a fetal position, it’s heartbreaking because I read it as her becoming defeated and giving in to her fate. It’s bleak AF.
I LOVE this analysis video. So glad that the cohesion problem in LATATA is pointed out (u will never get into trouble with nevies) - I could simply feel vaguely that something is not right 😂😂😂. PS I smiled when u tossed and checked LATATA. A 2020 show ranks the most expensive idols’ dresses in MVs. Jennie ranks 1 with CHANEL, GD ranks 2 with YSL …. AND Soojin ranks 3 with a red dress from ROMONA KEVEZA in Senorita. 😂 I think the success of LATATA makes CUBE start to spend some money 😂😂😂 PPS Dancers in OMG actually reminds me of some(?) shows from Balenciaga with face shields. I personally think they convey similar message in different scenarios and contexts…not sure if other brands/designers tried to use that to convey such messages as well.
There are reasons for the group (G)I-DLE to be so named. The '(G)' used to stand for 'Girls'. Since the great shake-up of the last year-and-a-half, they have basically dropped the G. They have grown up. The part I am really stressing to you here is the 'I', which stands for 'Individuals'. They are each their own person. They all just so happened to come to work together in order to make something greater than their individual solo careers may have yielded. That does not mean they must be so militant as to need their styles to be cohesive. Their individual styles are very different from one another so they did not try to go for the uniforms like little school girls may have. An important part of the entire vibe of the group is that they are all different from each other; they each have something different to bring to the table in order to make a fully-fleshed-out, multi-faceted and more capable group. They also learn from one another so Yuqi and Minnie have joined Soyeon in producing and writing credits. These ladies come from vastly different backgrounds from different countries. When they debuted as six members, only half of the members were from Korea (now there are only two Koreans in the group). One is from Taiwan (Shuha), one is from China (Yuqi) and one is literally a member of a royal family of Thailand (Minnie). Then you have the definition of an Underground Rapper in Soyeon, which is how she is such a force of nature and not ever to be trifled with. And Miyeon could have debuted with BlackPink instead of being in (_)I-DLE. My point is, don't knock the lack of cohesive outfits; because their own personal styles differ, their outfits differ. That part of their appearance is not even skin-deep. Besides, they all came together for a better purpose than the fashion style or their own personal beauty (Soyeon was actually called 'ugly' when she was younger and even appeared on a show called Un-Pretty Rap Star. She knows all about the harmful side of the goddamned stupid and impossible Korean Beauty Standard, which eventually became one of her hard edges). The rather deep lyrics of many of their songs truly speak for themselves and are more important than all of their looks. The idea of 'it is okay to be an individual' should speak volumes about the importance of their lyrics.
It's been months since I saw one of your reactions, but other then being a Neverland and happy you're covering my girls' old releases and finding you already reacted to NXDE, can I just say as a Dutch woman and being seperated from you only by the North Sea, that every comment about the weather feels so god damn relatable. Fuck, September was literally the coldest since the 1920s, according to a news article I read months ago. Though I still think we've gotten way too used to the soft winters caused by global warming.
It has been so fucking bitter omg 😭 it's current -4 degrees here in the UK and I couldn't tell you the last time I remember December being this cold. Defo getting too used to the softer winters but winter aint here to play this year haha

Idle are so good glad you are diving deeper into them. I saw that performance you were talking about. Only reason they stopped was bc Shuhua fell. Hope she didn't hurt herself. I used your last fashion Chingu code and omg I loooove everything I ordered!!! It really is good quality! I ordered a bunch of Shuhua's clothes!!
I'm so sorry for the slow ass reply omg pls slap me haha. Yeah I hope she didn't hurt herself either but omg the professionalism, you have to hand it to them! Thank you so much for supporting my partnership with Fashion Chingu, that really means a lot 😍 what pieces did you order? Honestly the quality is superb!
@George Hollins Don't worry about the timing life happens!!! I actually got Shuhua's dress from the Tomboy mv and a coupke other pieces of hers! Also I got a sweater and shorts that Chaeryeong from Itzy wore.... and some pants from Jennie! I had to literally stop looking bc I would have bought the whole store!!!
I’m in love with this group too. I got too see them live last September. Latata is their debut, since Cube is not a big company, they dont want to spend too much money on a new girl group.
Actually, their debut and hann(alone) outfits were quite questionable, but it did improve in hann(alone). I believe that was the time when they didn't put their hands on the outfits yet and just let the stylists do their job and the styling that we see now are a combination of their opinion and the stylists. Maybe that's why the outfits at the other eras are better than their debut era. You should really watch the OMG stages, Minnie's narrative in one of the stage is just immaculate. There's actually a rotating theory that we neverlands made for OMG where: Soojin is the devil or should I say, she's like lilith(?), Soyeon is already a fallen angel, Minnie as you can see that she's in her way from being an angel to being an fallen one, same as Yuqi, although Yuqi is like Miyeon's right hand or something, lastly are Miyeon and Shuhua are like the goddess, and you could see at the MV that after Shuhua's part is that she suddenly changed to Soyeon bcoz she wanted Soojin to notice her that she changed to Shuhua.
I love your videos! You should review Chungha! She's amazing and I think you'd love her and her dancers even if you don't make a video out of it. Stay Tonight and Dream of You are my favs 💕
They can't get away with much gay innuendo in the Korean version but here's the English version that isn't heavily censored. [Intro: Minnie] Nothing can pull me away from your embrace I'm not going anywhere Here we go again, I hear the sound of pain Flowing slowly through my veins Oh God [Verse 1: Soyeon] Help me, help me Oh, I don't know how to breathe (Don't know how to breathe), for real Set free, set free This craving is gonna be (Almost gonna be), deadly [Pre-chorus: Yuqi, Miyeon] I know that you're only playin' I hate it so much I love it What would be the repercussions if I let you inside me? It's so dangerous I want it Guess you got me where you want me I don't care that I'm addicted [Chorus: Soyeon, Minnie] Oh my God (Oh, God) She took me to the sky (Sky, sky, sky) Oh my God (Oh, God) She showed me all the stars (Stars, stars, stars) [Verse 2: Soojin] Baby, baby You got me losing my mind tonight (I'm losing my mind) Toxic, toxic I tell my friends that I'm fine, it's a lie (I'm doing real fine) [Verse 3: Soyeon] Oh God, I should stay away But then you will hit me up and I am on my way Can't stop, girl, you make me sick But then you make me wanna stick around I know I got it bad It feels good, yeah, I'll regret it You're detrimental to my health but I ain't never leavin' (Yeah, yeah) I'm probably crazy but I need it, want it, gotta have it You may be poison, but sure as hell taste like honey [Pre-chorus: Miyeon, Yuqi] Losing all my senses when you pull me close I don't know how to let go of this passion So just burn me with your loving I can't control this desire We get close, the flames get higher Nothing can put out this fire [Chorus: Soojin, Minnie] Oh my God (Oh, God) She took me to the sky (Sky, sky, sky) Oh my God (Oh, God) She showed me all the stars (Stars, stars, stars) [Bridge: Shuhua] Put your hands all over, want your smell on me forever I'm losing my composure, can't nobody do me better Time and time again, I told myself I need to let go Then I fall right back into your arms.

When she ends the song with even more black smears, lying in a fetal position, it’s heartbreaking because I read it as her becoming defeated and giving in to her fate. It’s bleak AF.

Yes!!!!! (G)I-dle is such an original group. I love them 💜
Hahahaha latata was their debut so the budget was kinda low. They even tapes some plastic or tarp on the wall as the set for their photoshoot
This is crazy timing! I was doing an (G)idle marathon yesterday so this is perfect. Thank you✨
OMG thank you so much for reacting to my fav Kpop Group
Wait I never thought bout the 3 girls presented evil and 3 others angelic
Love your video
I like your explanation of styling
I LOVE this analysis video.
So glad that the cohesion problem in LATATA is pointed out (u will never get into trouble with nevies) - I could simply feel vaguely that something is not right 😂😂😂.
PS I smiled when u tossed and checked LATATA. A 2020 show ranks the most expensive idols’ dresses in MVs. Jennie ranks 1 with CHANEL, GD ranks 2 with YSL …. AND Soojin ranks 3 with a red dress from ROMONA KEVEZA in Senorita. 😂 I think the success of LATATA makes CUBE start to spend some money 😂😂😂
PPS Dancers in OMG actually reminds me of some(?) shows from Balenciaga with face shields. I personally think they convey similar message in different scenarios and contexts…not sure if other brands/designers tried to use that to convey such messages as well.
Thanks for mentioning me in your video George, Oh my god is still an anthem in kpop. I love this group so much! 💕
Wow finally ! Tysm for checking them out:) i think senorita has the best fashion in any gidle mv, personally.
Personalmente me. Gusta el estilo de Yuqi...
Necesito una reacción a B. I, un rapero con mucho estilo al vestir, simple pero único.
Thank god, you finally react to those songs! Totally agree with your feedback!
@@georgehollins I swear I haven't shivered like this in like a decade. I have this German comforter blanket, and sometimes I literally crawl in bed just for the warmth of my blanket.
LEGENDS
I absolutely love your reaction George BTW I LOVE YOUR OUTFIT❤️❤️
There's actually a rotating theory that we neverlands made for OMG where: Soojin is the devil or should I say, she's like lilith(?), Soyeon is already a fallen angel, Minnie as you can see that she's in her way from being an angel to being an fallen one, same as Yuqi, although Yuqi is like Miyeon's right hand or something, lastly are Miyeon and Shuhua are like the goddess, and you could see at the MV that after Shuhua's part is that she suddenly changed to Soyeon bcoz she wanted Soojin to notice her that she changed to Shuhua.
my fav group, period 🥇♡
I love your videos! You should review Chungha! She's amazing and I think you'd love her and her dancers even if you don't make a video out of it. Stay Tonight and Dream of You are my favs 💕
YESSSSS G IDLE FINALLY THESE SONGS 🤗🤗❤💞❤🥰🥰🥰💕
You can see their $5 Dollars outfit in Latata LMAO because their debut budget was really small.
You are so beautiful 😍
Nooo you are 😘
Great reaction 👍 more (G)I-DLE 🔥
Wow you are gorgeous!
I love you
That soojin look in OMG is just 🤌🤌🤌🤌 im never over it
Who is sooyeon😭
Sorry but u look like the vampire from Twilight saga
Don't take it seriously pls
That’s a compliment no? 🤔😂
But what if I tell you HANN has even worst styling than Latata.....
Only me that doesnt see why Oh My God is ''a song for the gays'' whats gay about it... 😐😐
They can't get away with much gay innuendo in the Korean version but here's the English version that isn't heavily censored.
[Intro: Minnie]
Nothing can pull me away from your embrace
I'm not going anywhere
Here we go again, I hear the sound of pain
Flowing slowly through my veins
Oh God
[Verse 1: Soyeon]
Help me, help me
Oh, I don't know how to breathe (Don't know how to breathe), for real
Set free, set free
This craving is gonna be (Almost gonna be), deadly
[Pre-chorus: Yuqi, Miyeon]
I know that you're only playin'
I hate it so much I love it
What would be the repercussions if I let you inside me?
It's so dangerous I want it
Guess you got me where you want me
I don't care that I'm addicted
[Chorus: Soyeon, Minnie]
Oh my God (Oh, God)
She took me to the sky (Sky, sky, sky)
Oh my God (Oh, God)
She showed me all the stars (Stars, stars, stars)
[Verse 2: Soojin]
Baby, baby
You got me losing my mind tonight (I'm losing my mind)
Toxic, toxic
I tell my friends that I'm fine, it's a lie (I'm doing real fine)
[Verse 3: Soyeon]
Oh God, I should stay away
But then you will hit me up and I am on my way
Can't stop, girl, you make me sick
But then you make me wanna stick around
I know I got it bad
It feels good, yeah, I'll regret it
You're detrimental to my health but I ain't never leavin' (Yeah, yeah)
I'm probably crazy but I need it, want it, gotta have it
You may be poison, but sure as hell taste like honey
[Pre-chorus: Miyeon, Yuqi]
Losing all my senses when you pull me close
I don't know how to let go of this passion
So just burn me with your loving
I can't control this desire
We get close, the flames get higher
Nothing can put out this fire
[Chorus: Soojin, Minnie]
Oh my God (Oh, God)
She took me to the sky (Sky, sky, sky)
Oh my God (Oh, God)
She showed me all the stars (Stars, stars, stars)
[Bridge: Shuhua]
Put your hands all over, want your smell on me forever
I'm losing my composure, can't nobody do me better
Time and time again, I told myself I need to let go
Then I fall right back into your arms.
the pronouns, the flashes of the rainbow, soyeon writing this song after idle got backflash for kissing eachother, soojin saying shes the devil that seduces girls cmon nowww
Literally pay any attention to it at all? A song clearly with biblical implications about temptation and sin, the use of she instead of any other pronoun, even if it's not the only interpretation it's one of them
