    Always nice to watch a good Porsche restoration, Jim. I don't think I've seen an old 917 in any better shape than the pair you started with. They all seem to have been well raced! Came out great in the end. Enjoy your weekend! 🍁👍

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andrew! Those old 917s did go through hell lol. If you look at the one on the turntable that I didn't choose to work on, the hinged engine cover is actually shifted back maybe an 1/8 of an inch. Not sure what happened to that poor thing...but at least it HAS a cover, unlike so many lol. Hope you and Petra are having a great weekend!

    I LOVE the metalcast blue!! It looks BETTER than the factory-fresh originals! Nice! What to do with the extra Porsche? A: BATMOBILE! ;)

      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Loston! A Batmobile -- oh no! I have too many of those planned already lol (there's an old casting I'm turning into a Batmobile that's been on the bench WAY too long already.

    I really like the metalcast. grabbed the read the blue and 2 purple. the blue and one of the purple cans come out watery and run easy. gotta spray farther away than usual with those 2. if I knew how much I'd like them woulda grabbed all the colors I coulda found last year when I had the money lol. porche turned awesome as usual.

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Neil! The Metalcast paints take a little practice -- I usually go with two or three very light coats, followed by a wet coat. That being said, I've always found the red and blue the easiest to use with the orange and yellow being the toughest -- they pool incredibly easy.

    • @neilcummings9939
      @neilcummings9939 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms the pooling is what I'm getting with the blue and 1 purple other purple is perfect. been trying lighter coats from further distance so far so good. orange and yellow you say any other you've found so far. tanks for the tip

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neilcummings9939 Light coats are more critical with some of the colors than others. I think the first #Short Tips shows all of the colors I've found so far.

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Dan! The little posts can be really tough...of course, they're pretty easy compared to the tiny tube I was just trying to tap a straight pin into...which went directly into my finger (no worries - it wasn't that bad and CA glue was nearby to seal the wound lol)

    When you are polishing the base with the wax, what is the dark stuff coming off on the cloth? Is that like dirt or tarnish?
    Those cap wheels are cool!
    I love the color! Looks so nice with the contrast of the glass. The whole build came out great :) it looks really polished and beautiful :D
    Definitely came a long way lol

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Madi! The dark stuff when I'm polishing with the Ren Wax is the residue from the earlier polishing with the Flitz metal polish -- when polishing, it will turn black in the process, likely a combination of tarnish and metal being removed...and then it clears up with the shine remaining. The wax is able to get into the tiny areas and pull more of that residue out :)

  • @lotharrenz4621

    looks awesome for rattlecan paint. :D the blue looks great itself too. :)
    hey, I wonder if it works to work in the renaissance wax with a soft toothbrush? or does it need the hands' warmth to work? I haven't looked into it very far yet.

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Lothar! That's a good idea about a soft toothbrush with the Ren Wax - I'll have to try it. I've used the tiny disposable detail "brushes" to get into fine areas, but a toothbrush could be easier.

    • @lotharrenz4621
      @lotharrenz4621 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms please report us any success, or if it doesn't work. :)
      also, maybe such a toothbrush could help with polishing or cleaning baseplates with many recessed details? where a turning tool can't get inbetween them the movements you can do with said brush could at least work out some kings, I imagine.
      I'll have to test things myself, but as it is there are too many problems that have a higher priority at the moment. or else I'd have long since started to restore and customize my diecasts, too.
