Very well said 👍 Huge miss interpretation about so called freak waves. Reading waves is far more than just checking the swell. Sets and lull time needs to be factored in.
Im only just starting to get back into spearfishing and line fishing after a few years nit going out and your videos are a god send very helpful videos man good stuff brings back so many good memories I hope I get to make more soon
Amazing as always Alex, i think its a fantastic idea to create some rock fishing safety videos! Im sure a lot of people would be very interested. I know i would.
Cracker fish man, I think a large part of rock safety is just being aware and having some common sense. I got my first ever sketchy moment last weekend, I left a rod down on the front of the ledge, turned to see it washed into a pool and got a soaking as i retrieved it. luckily i fish relatively shallow water and the surges aren't too powerful, did pack it up there as the light was fading. Love your basic rock stuff, still trying to get a drummer, luderick and snapper in one session myself haha cheers
Thanks for your message Ja cheers. Yes a lot of it is common sense, not being too stubborn and knowing 'your 'limits not the limits of more advanced anglers. That great you did not get too stitched up and you go out safely👌
Can you show us the correct technique for dispatching various species please. I've never done it before and I'd that they not suffer any unnecessary pain.
I disagree about freak waves, they exist. I was fishing the rocks on a dead flat day but erred on the side of caution and stayed up a bit higher on the ledge. After a couple of hours two large waves swept the lower platform , and there were no more waves that afternoon. I live around Northern Wollongong where the rocks are low to the water. I'm always cautious.
Hi Red yes you may have seen a freak wave. I have not encountered any freak waves for the sixteen and a half years as a rock/beach fishing guide and the last fourth five years of recreational rock fishing I have done. Guess I have just not been there when it happened 🤔
It really depends on so many different variables. Best would be to search for videos of people fishing at the places you will be going and see what gear they use and what fish they catch, and go from there
No, there is no such thing as 'freak waves', just bigger sets. And that is a terribly unsafe place to rock fish. Where is all the water coming onto the platform going .... right, straight back out to sea. And that will include you in it if you get caught. Look for a large FLAT rock shelf where the water flows across the shelf losing energy and then drains out the back of it. These places may be wet as a larger wave hitting the rock face spraying water straight up and lands on you, but the worst that can happen is you get washed backward across the shelf and lose a bit of 'bark'. And your escape route should be where do you get back out of the water if washed in. Is there a sand beach around the corner or a relatively calm bay, or is it just vertical rock face in both directions as far as the eye can see (bad, VERY bad). Dress appropriately expecting to swim in what you are wearing. You are going to die in waders or overalls and gum boots if you do go in.
Terribly unsafe to rock fish that depends on your pionon At this location Swell energy breaks down because it breaks into foam loosing energy substantially. thans for your message
7:17 totally agree! So important things to learn to be safe while rockfishing!

so true about the freak waves, they dont come out of absolutely nowhere. Very important to check the swell and especially the conditions on the day

There is something special about catching quality snapper off the rocks 👏
Great Video!
I had a cousin called Moray, he would curl himself up in a ball just like the eel you caught.
🤣🤣 keep at arms length from your cousin la Morey
Hey mate great video. What’s the reel and rod you use?
Hey larlaith
Please check the description of that video. The gear specs are there cheers
Hello brother, you are a nice fisherman.
Thank you very much. Hope you enjoyed the videos.
@@AlexBellissimo Yes really!!
Another awesome video. With your set up, do you ever use circle hooks for snapper off the rocks?
Thanks James much appreciated mate.
No I do not use circle hooks
Hey Alex , nice video mate .. could you please tell us what is the rig set up when your chasing the reds ?
Hi Ryan
Snapper sinker 3-5 oz, sinker clip and swivel, soft bead, swivel, 40lb fluorocarbon leader 45-60cm and 3/0 octopus type hook
Alex what brand is your life jacket , I’m interested in having a go at rocking cheers love your clips 🎣
hey there
Hobie life jacket PFD 50+
Smart camera man, flathead = yum
Hahah yeah sure is a smart camera person 😊👍
Alex what footwear do you wear and recommend when fishing off the rocks
Hi John
Adrenalin or I-Catch steel spike boots or stretch on steel snow spikes. Cheers
Great vid Alex !
Would circle hooks be good to use off the rocks ? They might snag less !!
Hi Peter
Maybe they might but quite often it is the sinker getting snagged no the hook
grate video where is this spot
Sorry I do not reveal my spots. But I show my clients on fishing/guiding trips
Good snapper brother
Thanks Sajiad
Fortunate to get it towards the end of the outing 😊👌
I’ve tried night fishing off rock walls in Perth but it felt so sketchy not being able to see what’s coming…
Well rock fishing at night is dangerous. But I pick my nights preferably flat seas. slow down walking pace for a start, too many holes and cracks.
😆 lol! That guy is a total FLOP! Ur a bloody legend! Awesome fishermen! Go you! Always Excellent Content👏 "See Ya Out There!"🎣😉🐟
not sure who's a total flop but he pobably tries the best he can thanks for mentining much appreciated
9:55 that's it! 😂
Hi Alex great video just wondering what rod is that? thanks
Hi Dan thanks for liking the vid much appreciated. check out the e description on that video. Info there cheers

What do I need to be safe from? Where I fish water is mostly calm or splashes Ur knees at its worst lol
freak waves exist - they are statistically very rare but they're out there
That may be the case. I just have not encountered them myself on my client trip and for the last fourth five years of rock fishing.
Can you show us the correct technique for dispatching various species please.
I've never done it before and I'd that they not suffer any unnecessary pain.
Hi there
I will try and do it in the next video
Cheers
Dw about my safety just give me the spot

I’ve heard about them. Called pressure swell/wave. Must be rare.
Why is he using such a massive stick?
Do I need to buy one that big?
It really depends on so many different variables. Best would be to search for videos of people fishing at the places you will be going and see what gear they use and what fish they catch, and go from there
Good answer Harry cheers
Rock fisherman should use a rod minimum length 10 foot so you don't need to stand too close to the rock edge near the ocean. This is just one reason.

Do you care to share location 👍
Sorry i do not share locations but if you book me on a fishing trip i share locaions and more importantly how to fish properly
Hi mate what’s the rig you use for snapper off the rocks. Is that extended paternoster or a running rig?
A mate
A snapper sinker, sinker clip, soft bead, swivel , 40lb Fluoro 60-80cm and 3/0 2x strong hook
