I would love to know why you felt handcuffed to your main channel... or is there that excitment on growth, you can only grow so far and when it slows you lose the excitement and starting over and growing a new channel is most of the fun of youtube?
Not only was this awesome to listen to. But it was perfectly timed as well. I spent my morning walk thinking about many of the same TH-cam issues. My channel is no where near as big, but I still feel the pressure to play the game and miss what TH-cam was 5 or 6 years ago. I think I'm at the point of not caring about the game, click bait titles, tabloid style thumb nails and whether or not audience retention drops off when you just want to talk about something. The more I play the game the less I enjoy the process and the less authentic I feel and I think that my viewers really pick up on that. Thanks again, you really made me feel better.
Of course I also started a second channel just to do what ever I wanted, but there is still that pressure to play the game and oh so many 10 of 10 videos.
This was great and much needed to hear. As a beginner it’s so nice to hear this coming from 2 creators that millions inspire to be. Just simply go take a photo and appreciate it!
I appreciate how candid you two can be. Love your videos, but I can tell they serve a purpose. These pods feel like I’m listening to two friends at a coffee shop. Hope to see more soon!
Great conversation! It’s great to hear you guys talk about The 10 out of 10 thing…and Matti you are absolutely right. Providing that information without anything useable to act on is pretty much designed to lead to burn out. I know so many people who have quit in the last year. Maybe This is how they are make room for the younger channels…the “flesh blood” you talked about. Great conversation guys!
I really loved this one, it honestly feels great to listen to you guys talk about these curiosities, troubles and opinions about where social media/youtube is going, of course it sparks some troubling thoughts in my head but it feels more connecting and adds a lot of perspective. Appreciate both of you guys and i seriously wish you guys the best and BTW 1/10 or 10/10, 10 likes or 10M likes i'd believe that every single thing you create, the effort you guys put in, it possibly makes someones day/life way better and isn't that way more valuable than what a machine thinks... at least thats what i tell myself. Hope you guys enjoy your time ❤
Man, what an episode. I enjoyed it sooo much. I've been following you guys for a really long time and I feel like this episode has a different energy to it. I loved you guys as BANGER masters but I am happy to see you opening up. Thank you so much for sharing.
Matti thanks for an awesome content and this fantastic conversation. The atmosphere of the room was so highly feeling like I was there with you both listing.
22:20 TikTok is the new daily vlog. If you land on the right side of tiktok, it's the same sensation of waking up to a video from your favorite vlogger.
love these :) The Tik Tok thing is so spot on. When I sit for an hour watching TH-cam Shorts, I feel entertained at the time, but when I’m done I’m like… WTF did I just do wasting my life like that!
Bad business in the long-term... Matti, you just described how I've been feeling about watching TH-cam, TikTok & Instagram Reels lately. Like I watch you two guys CONSTANTLY, but lately, not really to be completely honest... I just feel like I'm having enough, like right now for example, I am two weeks "late" watching this podcast. I go out for a walk instead of watching TH-cam, I try to sleep instead of watching TikToks till I drop dead fall asleep, like its so refreshing not constantly watching videos, trying to live life like I've never had not feeling the "guilt" of "wasting" my time watching videos. But in the end, I'll never stop watching, just adjusting my habits of when and where to watch videos, with whom maybe, get inspired with someone else. Lots of love, Lars Ingemann
I like how you guys touched on the thumbnail game and Pete's refusal to play it. My style is dark and moody, similar to Pete's but applied to food. Neon colors, shocked faces, and sensationalism doesn't work with who I am. If I play the game, in the long run it will hurt me because I'd have to keep up with something that's not genuinely me. The way I think about it is in a parallel to Nordstrom; it has been around since the 1920s. Their boxes are still the sleek engraved grey boxes I knew 10 years ago but does it matter? no! You know you're getting great products and customer service. You might shop at forever 21 (does it still exist? 🤷♀️) for the latest trends but when you need quality you can trust, you know Nordstrom's got your back. I want to be the Nordstrom of bakeries and patisseries. I think people will still watch the old timers because they're not running after the latest trends, but showing us who they genuinely are. Keep doing what you're doing! You have no idea I exist but I feel like I know you guys. 😁
Such a nice talk, love that you both follow your new passions and it's so nice seeing you evolve more and more over time. You both are really my most favourite TH-camrs :)
These are such important conversations for other creatives to hear. A majority of creatives are not influencers but they think they need to be in order to be legit. Not true. I love how Mark Bone says that the world needs what you make, and not all of us are supposed to make influencer content. Loving these podcasts.
As a content creator myself in the photo/video nieche, I can totally relate to what you both are feeling about TH-cam. I started my channel in Italian in 2017 and now after almost 5 years and "just" 43K subs I feel like I'm trapped in the kind of content I've always created: reviews, tutorials and such. The TH-cam algorithm also doesn't help, because if you post something new or different and your current audience doesn't click on it... the video just disappears into oblivion and no one else gets to see it.
Such a great episode guys. So many topics covered so thoughtfully and still being totally entertaining. So much to chew over here. Matti, you're a top guy and a great inspiration 👍👍
The fact that the podcast doesn't have a certain location is really fun! Unfortunately it's the exam month and I can't make a video... but I have so many ideas my sketchbook is about to end. it's filled with storyboards and lines and texts about how the shot I want looks like and what the video is going to be about... Sometimes you don't have control of what is going to happen to you, like me. I don't have any control over the fact that I have to study about topics that don't have anything to do with eachother and if I don't study enough I'm gonna fail the gradual test that happen at the end of the school year... this year the "exam month" takes just 3 days shy of a full month and for this month I have to turn off my creative outlets to be able to study enough to get a good grade and pass each exam. It's unfortunate and annoying but I don't have any control over it and I have to live with it, so I'm gonna save my ideas and not waste time by being mad at the universe and everything. I'm gonna wait for this month to end and the summer break to start. the good thing is that the harder exams are pretty much done :)) Also my tradition is still going!
Loved this conversation. I have never from day one liked the top 10 ranking on the backend. Not even when a video does well. I don't like the way I feel good or bad. Totally agree it's not good for creator mental health. Which is a thing.... But an interesting conversation about making content. Love these kinds of conversations. 😁
I think some people don't know how they feel from day to day or after watching a video so they could give a false sense of whatever emotion it is and that could result in incorrect data. That's probably why the watch time speaks volumes. If someone is enjoying it, they'll keep watching... but who knows 😅 either way, TH-cam is my favourite and I have a lot to thank it for. Including you both.
Absolutely love this chat cause I’ve been thinking about a lot of these topics. Really enjoy how free form this feels. This location though is out of this world 😍🔥
Agree with everything Matti. TH-cam has turned in to a terrible place rammed full of nonsense and drama (or it’s just the algorithm) but I watch things less and less and when I do, often that exact feeling of ‘I’ve just wasted my time’ Like Pete said I mainly use it now for ‘how to…..’ not for enjoyment or entertainment. Really loved the 10/10 discussion. I’m hesitant to be a full-time TH-camr just because of that. Even if I ever got my channel to the point where it would sustain me full-time, the back and forth i would feel about how a certain video ranks would be too much. Really wish TH-cam would get rid of it.
I will lean a bit out the window and say: this conversation added an extra layer of authenticity to both of you - as personalties - which is quite easy to confuse with the guys that show up for us on their channels again and again. I hope this comes across as positive as I mean it.

I really enjoyed this, and can relate to so much. I've backed off on Insta purely for the state of keeping current. I'm a wedding photographer, but it's so difficult because if you DON'T post, you can't be infront of clients. It's so difficult to find a middle ground.
Thank you. I have yet to start a channel. And want to just for the challenge of it. I am reminded it's about having fun and the journey. So now that I know what 10/10 is....here I come! 😂
So true about the 10 of 10 comments. It is a useful tool I suppose but like you said, at best you are relieved by number 1 and at worst aghast at the number 10 spot on a newly posted video.
So if I’m being 100% honest. Depending on my mood, the a/b story works and doesn’t work for me. With some videos, I skip to the gear or tutorial and skip the story. But then other times, I’m into it and connecting to you as a creator.
Hey ..... I like photography and powder coated exhaust 🤔 Matti, that's quite the incite, some videos do leave me feeling empty which influences my choices of videos I watch in the future, I now will not watch videos that before I would watch by habit. I have to say you and Pete always have interesting content, I'm never disappointed. Okay I was a little disappointed when you moved away from Canon cameras, because you know, Canon is the best 🤣 Oh no Pete don't become a victim of the Leica Koo-laid😱btw great podcast👍👍
Hey from Sweden! Pet! i feel you bro, but not on the same lvl. but i have the canon RP i did get the Ef 100mm 2.8 maco i have been shooting with it alot watches cospaly and so on and i love the 100mm feeling and it challenges me i have the 24-105 RF f4 and sigma 150-600 and ofc the 100mm macro and 80% off the time the 100mm macro is on my canon body and im loving the sharpness and the challenges it give me. man im happy!
Ahhh the good old days. Just a couple of buds, podcastin'
nothing better 😊
One day when I achieve success as a filmmaker and photographer, I will do a podcast with you guys, It's a dream for now.
what's the thumbnail twitter account tho... LOL
@@aymaneatigui too bad you have to achieve success BEFORE being able to do a podcast with them, don't you think?

Man, what an episode. I enjoyed it sooo much. I've been following you guys for a really long time and I feel like this episode has a different energy to it. I loved you guys as BANGER masters but I am happy to see you opening up. Thank you so much for sharing.
one item on my Bucket list is to be in a podcast with the two of you! 😌
Matti thanks for an awesome content and this fantastic conversation.
The atmosphere of the room was so highly feeling like I was there with you both listing.
This was awesome guys, great convo as always. Would love you to bring back the M&P show a bit more regularly :)
Great convo! Really encouraged me to stop stressing so much about the pace of my videos and allow for a genuine connection.
Felt a heavy sense of nostalgia with this one. A couple cups of coffee and this video was a great way to start a Saturday morning. Well done, fellas.
22:20 TikTok is the new daily vlog. If you land on the right side of tiktok, it's the same sensation of waking up to a video from your favorite vlogger.
Awww… y’all never make me feel empty after watching. ❤️
I've been waiting for this episode.
Such awesome chemistry you two!! Miss the Matti & Pete Show!
Great podcast guys! Really enjoyed it.
Awesome episode! Love you guys together!
I miss the Matti and Pete Show, but kudos to you both. You have made great points about the current state of You Tube! Keep creating!
Two amazing people in a podcast.
That’s like a name FOR a podcast. 😉
love these :) The Tik Tok thing is so spot on. When I sit for an hour watching TH-cam Shorts, I feel entertained at the time, but when I’m done I’m like… WTF did I just do wasting my life like that!
AND I meant to add - that lighting! Ooooo sweet! I usually listen to your podcasts in the car but happened to catch this one here - so glad I did.
Memories only is the best line of the show. Great conversation guys.

What a great episode. I could sit here all day.
This channel should be named "Matti Haapodcast" bro XD, nice episode btw, really enjoyed it

Also my tradition is still going!
Fantastic podcast interview with Peter McKinnon love that guy!
thanks guys for putting a smile on my face every time I see your videos :)
Really like this Podcast, you two are the best
First thought: A 45 mins video is loooong.
Current thought: I need a part 2 to this!
Yes, the one we were all waiting! Tho all episodes have been great so far, Matti
Honestly, I can listen to the two of you talking for the rest of my life. I dont need another podcast! So enjoyable.
You guys need to do this more!
I think some people don't know how they feel from day to day or after watching a video so they could give a false sense of whatever emotion it is and that could result in incorrect data. That's probably why the watch time speaks volumes. If someone is enjoying it, they'll keep watching... but who knows 😅 either way, TH-cam is my favourite and I have a lot to thank it for. ...PS hope @petermckinnon is ok 🙏
Absolutely love this chat cause I’ve been thinking about a lot of these topics. Really enjoy how free form this feels. This location though is out of this world 😍🔥
I really felt Pete when he said once you go through health issues nothing really matters. Take care guys. Pete is always nice to listen to. :)
Super episode! 🙏🙏 How do you feel after watching something - metric would be on our wishlist as well! ❤️
The content is getting worse and worse, there’s a reason I don’t have TikTok but it’s like every platform is merging to be it anyway. Loved this
Really loved the 10/10 discussion. I’m hesitant to be a full-time TH-camr just because of that. Even if I ever got my channel to the point where it would sustain me full-time, the back and forth i would feel about how a certain video ranks would be too much. Really wish TH-cam would get rid of it.
The rain in the background with the dark gloomy vibes.. LOVE IT
I will lean a bit out the window and say: this conversation added an extra layer of authenticity to both of you - as personalties - which is quite easy to confuse with the guys that show up for us on their channels again and again. I hope this comes across as positive as I mean it.
I really enjoyed the lighting and coloring of this podcast. More so than normal videos I've seen.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE UNDERGROUND PODCAST!
It’s refreshing to see you share a conversation boys! The weather outside and the outfits are moody (I dig it).
You call 25 degree a hot day but that's cool day for us here in Nepal. This is the summer time here. Temperature hits 35/36 degree Celsius during day.
😊
"Someone call the banger police." hahaha
PLEASE READ!
Matti you've been hitting this note for awhile and its so true! I started a channel at the end of last year, not for attention or income but to share my experiences and some of my outdoor knowledge. There's lots of people who can't get out and I hope to give them some of what its like getting out into the wilderness backpacking. That's all I want from it. I feel lucky not to have that pressure, but I think that's where your problem lies... its your job, your income, our lively hood. The farther away you can get from that pressure the more you can forget about the "so called game". Keep growing your other income streams and you'll have that freedom again. There will always be those that bend to the guys of vanity and excess. I think the true gift of TH-cam is those that keep it authentic, there true selfs coming across on camera. The world will come back around, short form content and Mr. Beast style extremes are not sustainable... Just look at "Jackass" its dead now and for good reason,, it may have been popular at one time and fun to watch but its insanity and stupid. Give real experiences and real info and real emotions and it will always win in the long run. I hope you and Peter can get back to freedom! I bet your audiences will watch almost anything you upload... Its you we watch not necessarily the info you give that makes us watch. Everyone just needs to be themselves and not be what TH-cam wants you to be. Show us real life and I bet in the long run it'll have a much better outcome. FREEEEEEEDOM!!!!! as Mel Gibson would yell.
I loved Matti's metaphor of the current era of TH-cam being compared to candy. I am currently 18, so from a younger perspective I have been getting more burned out from the fast-paced videos that have nothing to gain, such as those influenced from Tiktok, Reels, and all my sub-minute TH-cam recommendations on my feed. It's more of a task to find meaningful videos whereas it used to be much easier and I spent much more time watching creators I liked. Anyways, great podcast as always and I hope to see y'all together for another soon!
I’ve been loving these as well. This one sounded a bit depressing from both of y’all! Hope you guys aren’t getting burnt out. I would like to see an R3 vs Leica photo comparison video.
This setting is really nice 👍🏽 I really enjoyed this look
Great discussions. I am glad I use TH-cam to host my private TH-cam videos. I get to create my videos and be creative without caring what others think.
I shoot photos and videos to record memories, not for money or someone's approval. Keeping the processes simple.
Great podcast! Take home: Dont let life's 10 of 10 get you down. Live your life likes its a banger vid!
this was such an interesting conversation
You guys are awesome. That shadowban bit HAHAHA! "There's no such thing, you just suck right now brah!"
I think people just love to watch you guys no matter what you do or what the videos about
Loved it!!!!
Damn I enjoyed this so much. And yes. Leica vs Any Other. Leica just has that magic.
As I watch this I’m literally editing a video of me going for a walk. Haha.
You two are great! Peter curious to see what you do with the Q2, you might make me relevant after all!
These podcasts r great Matti.!
My quarter life crisis heroes in a new podcast. Feelsgoodman.
So true about the 10 of 10 comments. It is a useful tool I suppose but like you said, at best you are relieved by number 1 and at worst aghast at the number 10 spot on a newly posted video.
This was priceless
Memories > bangers. Always.
So if I’m being 100% honest. Depending on my mood, the a/b story works and doesn’t work for me.
With some videos, I skip to the gear or tutorial and skip the story. But then other times, I’m into it and connecting to you as a creator.
This is just sooooo good.
Make videos, fsck the algorithm. And Matti: drop the clip-bait titles!
This was a great podcast
I love it so much great video
This was awesome.
Best Podcast Everrrrrrrr 🎉🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just wrote a spicy video about how drug dealers and Social Media use kind of the same business model... You're right. You're absolutely right.
Hey from Sweden! Pet! i feel you bro, but not on the same lvl. but i have the canon RP i did get the Ef 100mm 2.8 maco i have been shooting with it alot watches cospaly and so on and i love the 100mm feeling and it challenges me i have the 24-105 RF f4 and sigma 150-600 and ofc the 100mm macro and 80% off the time the 100mm macro is on my canon body and im loving the sharpness and the challenges it give me. man im happy!
funny super valuable one of the best podcast i have ever listened watched it till the end
