The first 3 seasons were the best! I miss seeing Matthew and Sybil 😔 I also appreciated seeing Matthew and Tom bond like brothers.

"I wouldn't have thought it suited to much else"... They just have a spare mansion laying around. A mansion. For the occasional shooting and luncheon... But not much else. I can't imagine being that rich.

Not even suited for luncheon. They OCCASIONALLY ate lunch in the house when shooting there. What a shack.

The moment before Brown-Findlay says "Tonight or tomorrow?" it looks as though she was *this* close to messing up her line and saying something else.

Season 3 was packed FULL of Drama. From Lady Mary and Matthew's wedding, to the arrival of Mrs. Levinson and her dinnertime picnic. The financial struggles of the estate due to Lord Grantham's poor investment. Lady Edith's disastrous wedding with Sir Anthony. The arrival of young Lady Rose and her escapades in London. Lady Edith becoming a journalist and her liaisons with Michael Gregson. Matthew's proposals for improving the management of the estate, Lord Grantham's resistance and then Jarvis quits. Mr. Bates imprisonment for her wife's Vera's suicide. Thomas Barrow's sexuality is exploited by Mrs. O'Brien via the new footman James (Jimmy). Mrs. Hughes' health scare with a possible diagnosis of breast cancer. Mrs. Crawley hires Ethel as her new cook/maid. Lady Sybill's tragic death during childbirth of her and Tom's only child/daughter, Baby Sybiee. Lord and Landy Flintshire's marriage problems and dealing with an adolescent Lady Rose. O'Brien deserting Lady Grantham (Cora) to work for Lady Flintshire while Shrimpy is posted in India. (Actually that came to head in Season 4 episode 1.) Last but not least, Matthew's car crash hours after his son and heir is born. Thus leaving Lady Mary in despair and heartache for months and years to come.

@@genxx2724 You telling me! Did I forget to mention, Alfred calling the police when he walked in on Thomas trying to kiss 💋 Jimmy. Matthew teaching Tom how to play Croquet 🏏. Tom bringing Lord Grantham around the new ideas of fortifying the estate, his talk of how everyone has to use their collective resources for the good of the estate. Baby Sybiee's Christening at the Catholic Church in Rippon. The Dowager Countess convincing Tom to become the New Land Agent after Jarvis quits. Tom's brother visiting Downton Abbey for the Christening. Alfred of course comes to Downton Abbey, just before Cora learns about the financial crisis. Daisy getting upset because of her lack of appreciation in her role/work in the kitchen. And last but not least, Lady Mary gives birth to a healthy and beautiful Baby boy, whose labor pains were "induced" after dancing a Duneagle.

@@m.layfette6249 I liked it when Tom’s brother made the trip for Sybbie’s baptism. At dinner, Lord Grantham said Catholic mass is more like a gymnastics display. Tom’s brother just about spit his drink laughing.

Season 3 was enough for me. Way too much drama. I felt sorely manipulated as a viewer when Matthew was killed off, with the "we have all our lives together" trope as he then hops into the car. Saw that coming a mile off. These 9 to 12 minute snippets are just enough to revive the Best Of Downton Abbey. At least, for me.

I find it amazing that gentile society, even lesser royalty, had to be taught the "class" rules, and be worried about whether or not someone was good enough. Landed gentry even seemed to be a rung up from regular people, and didn't hesitate from making it known.
