Well, since Anna was employed as Mary’s maid, a scandal involving Mary would have put her job at risk. Moving Pamuk was necessary to all three of women.
I've watched this scene many times and my eyes tear up when Mary immediately stoops down and takes off Anna's shoes without a thought. It was so natural and sweet.
I have not yet seen that season of episodes. I lost my television services long ago. I was only seeing the places were Mary was a real witch. I never saw her nice points.

I love how Cora and Anna give each other that nod in the second scene when Cora leaves the room - she knows Mary is upset and there's so much unspoken between them in like half a second.
I really love how the whole house pulls together for Anna & John when she goes into labour. The roles are completely reversed, the master of the house brings in the champagne himself for his employees, Mary was instrumental in every step of Anna's pregnancy, including the post-birth childcare, it was such a nice reminder that they're genuine people who care deeply for their extended family.
The whole plot with Mr Green also shows how Mary cares after Anna, she made everything to help her, she asked Tony to fire Mr Green without betraying Anna's secret, she asked her father to take Thomas instead of Bates to let him support Anna, she was not afraid of scandal to support Bates and Anna during the trial after Greene's death ...
I think my favorite thing about the whole pamuk thing was that Mary went to Anna for help and she listened when Anna told her she needed to go get Cora and how clever Anna was about Cora being the one to go to
As the great saying goes, "The way a person treats their inferiors that reveals the most about their character, not their peers or superiors." And Mary has this in spades.
My absolute favorite moment is that she dressed Anna in her nightgown and said you’ll just give birth here. She said that without a second thought. And people say Sybill was the only Crawley to treat a member of the family as an Equal. That spoke volumes about how she felt about Anna.

I laughed at Mary's dismissal of the very idea that her helping Anna in labor being anything other than exactly what should be done. Cause when the cards are down nothing mattered but seeing a laboring mother to comfort and safety.
At that moment, an experienced mother was helping a new mom. It was not the Lady and her Maid or a Noblewoman and a Commoner, or any such. They were mothers, and Anna needed a hand, and Mary's calm, determined manner was perfectly suited to the task.
I love that Anna knows when something is wrong and stays behind to ask Mary if she's ok. After being recruited to drag a corpse across a castle and being sworn to secrecy about how he ended up there and died in flagrante on top of Mary, Anna should have been set up for the rest of her life.
I just feel as time goes on. They will be in their 60s in the 50s and 70s and in the 1960s. These two will be friend in every way not employer and servant. It was changing during those times. They would be actually best friends like sisters doing so much together. Anna would be so easy going like usual but I think Mary would be more appreicative probably saying she rather be with Anna that certain other people like herself and it would be just fine in those days.
@@glen7318 They would be these days, but back then, there was so much disapproval of them that women just used them as they were when they were purchased.
In Britain although there’s a class system, all people from the different classes were dependent on each other. One could not function without the other. This why historically there’s was no uprisings or revolution in Britain as in other countries.
His character is representing the "old" world (before the 20th century). As a contrast figure if you will. But he is genuinely kind and warmhearted, so being a bit too snobbish can be forgiven. It is good to have figures with different opinions, it would be so very unrealistic and boring if everyone would have the same mindset.
She treated Anna better than her sister but that is only because there was no reason to be jealous of her. If Anna wasn’t poor she probably would have poisoned her husband or something 😑🙄
Or maybe Anna is just a better person than entitled, privileged and self-victimising Edith who btw is the family member who treats her inferiors the worst (having affairs with farmers, using them to raise her kid, destroying their marriages) and was disgusted and racist about Rose's back boyfriend. Mary was the only one not playing along with Edith's poor-me attitude. Mary also had to endure Edith being jealous of her since childhood. Anna, despite being poor and hard-working, never whined about her lot in life and was always a trooper - and Mary admired her for it.
She trusted Anna in a way I don't think she trusted anyone else but Matthew right from the get-go, or Anna wouldn't have been the one she went to for help dealing with Pamuk's body. In the first movie, she outright calls Anna a good friend.

After being recruited to drag a corpse across a castle and being sworn to secrecy about how he ended up there and died in flagrante on top of Mary, Anna should have been set up for the rest of her life.
Mary was much nicer to Anna than her own sisters.
7:55 oh calm down, mr carson 😂😂🙄🤦♀️

Consequences? Oh, no. Just a chamber maid coming back to blackmail you...but no, no consequences...
Mary has no room to judge anyone else having a fiancé, she's have like 4.
it's a bit of a shame you didn't include Mary leading Anna to a guest bedroom wonderfully decked out for her and mr. Bates' honeymoon
The honeymoon they got was one night.
But Mary made certain it was special.
I was going to point that out myself - thank you for doing it! One of my favorite moments.
Very nice.
Leander helplessness
J'aimerais qu'ils mettent le 2 film de downton abbey sur netflix et aussi le 1
Can you guess how long barrow and o brien wouldve lasted if anna told her of their deviousness
Anna was a much better sister figure to Mary than jealous, spiteful Edith.
She was more of sister to Anna then to Edith
So what did Mary want Anna to buy at the store? I’m little confused
Condoms, likely.
A diaphragm (internal contraception, basically)
@@FunSizeSpamberguesa which has to be fitted
@@glen7318 They would be these days, but back then, there was so much disapproval of them that women just used them as they were when they were purchased.
A marmalade sandwich ?
In Britain although there’s a class system, all people from the different classes were dependent on each other. One could not function without the other. This why historically there’s was no uprisings or revolution in Britain as in other countries.
🙂💙💚
In lady Mary’s Bedroom? Carson is such a ridiculous snob.
Carson was ridiculous on many occasions. Never really liked him.
yassss my favourite in denial bisexuals 🥰🥰
I ship them
They were girlfriends in secret.
I totally ship them
Carson really is the biggest snob of all. I have never liked him.
How can you not like Carson? He is a darling. But of course, more snobbish than anybody else.
Please. He's a nice guy. He's Daddy#2 to Lady Mary.
No literally!!! Carson suggested that Thomas should be horsewhipped for being gay he doesn’t seem like a cute old man to me😅
@@hufflepuffbee8384 Barrow did something illegal. And he was being a wise guy to him.
This video just shows how unrealistic this TV show is
?
Wow, thank you. I have never felt the same way as you put it, friend!
She trusted Anna in a way I don't think she trusted anyone else but Matthew right from the get-go, or Anna wouldn't have been the one she went to for help dealing with Pamuk's body. In the first movie, she outright calls Anna a good friend.
@@FunSizeSpamberguesa True ! I'd like to add she was also very nice to Lavinia, and she had every reason to be jealous of her, yet she chose to be a very nice & caring person.
I always disliked Bates. Feel like he’s Jack the Ripper who got away
The very best ally the very worst enemy Lady Mary
Anna and Mary are more of sisters than Mary and Edith themselves 😂😂
Mary will drop everything for Anna and Anna will drop everything for Mary! Well Mary would call her Anna unlike the others would would call their maids and what by surnames I’m surprised Mary didn’t tell Anna they were on a first name basis 😂😂😂
