Might be purchasing a home that requires a new peninsula/island hood. This video gives me hope that I might be able to do it - thank you so much for this helpful and encouraging video! Your family is adorable! 💕
Just bought a triplex that we’re renovating while our family lives in it, so I appreciate the content! Will be following along with you as we both remodel
Just as a professional point of view, codes Some areas will not allow flexable pipe to be used and has to be ran completely in hard pipe because grease will be trapped in the creases of the flex pipe. Which causes a fire hazard.
Nicely done. I just subscribed. WIsh me luck with our island install. I'm so paranoid it's going to be off-center somehow. BTW - how many times did your boy fill up his cup and dump it in the sink? lol
Was your house built by Toll brothers? Because it looks identical to mine except I have a room above the kitchen and as a matter of fact I am meaning to do exactly what you’re doing so to do away with the useless downward exhaust. Good job 👍
Home Free Family : Home Renovation okay I see and no I meant what if the ceiling is vaulted , I’m guessing I would have to make a support base for the hanging plate
I’m installing a very similar unit. Where did you run the power cord through the ceiling? Was it adjacent to the flexible duct? Or was it between the outside of the ceiling bracket and the inside of the chimney? Thanks!
Matthew Levasseur when I installed mine , I installed a electrical outlet above ceiling which sits right on top of bracket gave it enough space to connect the power cord, I ran the power cord in between the frame and aluminum of the hood range. I made sure power cord wasn’t being squished or anything .i believe that’s why the bracket that mounts on the ceiling is not exactly in a square shape.
What I did to make sure it was aligned with the stove was to find the center point of the stove top, then hung a plumb bob from the ceiling until it aligned with the center part of the stove.
@@HomeFreeFamily -- Plumb bobs have been around for around 4000 years, since at least ancient Egypt... Even if you don't have a proper plumb bob, you can take a light string (e.g. mason line), tie a nut into the end of it, and drop it down from the ceiling... Maybe not as accurate as a true pointed plumb bob, but should be withing perhaps 1/16 or maybe 1/8 inch of the heavier pointed plumb bob as long as you don't have a lot of air movement (i.e. turn off any fans or HVAC vents nearby)...
If you are still looking for more info on the ventilation, we just uploaded a how to video for connecting the vent! th-cam.com/video/4nUpm89lUnk/w-d-xo.html
A note for others: If you want to have the hood higher off the range, you can buy wider range hoods. Basically the width of the range hood and the width of the range itself determines how far off the surface it must be to vent the gases, it's not just a standard height for all ranges / hoods.
Great video! Me and my wife are in the same spot of it being too low and trying to fabricate it the way you did, were the screws that came with it long enough to go through the hood, bracket, and into the vent? We're worried they're too short and will need to somehow find longer ones or cut it?
Awesome, good luck with your range hood! Honestly, it's been so long since I did this video I can't remember which screws we used, but if I remember right I think we had to go buy some longer ones at home Depot.
I thought range hoods have to have rigid duct sealed with UL Mastic Tape (No fasteners). not saying you're wrong per your local building code but this would be easier than i thought i had to do it.
I made another video for all of that, I think it's the recommended video at the end of this video. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll get the link.
I also recommend using two of the stainless steel mesh filters. They will catch the atomized grease and smoke particles and then you can just wash the stainless steel filters a few times per year depending on how often you cook.
Isn't it just too heavy to hold it in the sheet rock? My new range hood has 28 kg and I am afraid to hang it onto sheet rock with metal frame underneath.
I just re-watched our video because I couldn't remember what we did. I didn't show it in the video, just mentioned it around minute 5, but I went up into the attic and added framework to screw the range hood into. There's no way just drywall would hold it. Good luck with installing yours!
hi i know this is an installation video please can you show how well it work at that height, having dilemma about the height but worried that smoke will dissipate into the air before reaching the hood at high height. Maybe you can test with smoke or steam. Thanks
Thank you for watching our video! I can tell you that we haven't had any trouble with the height, it has worked very well as far as keeping the smoke and steam clear, and we love that it doesn't block the view!
How can you work with three little guys running around, they all seemed like good kids. I know I couldn’t. I have my island range hood , now to install it, I may hire someone.
Haha it definitely makes things a little tougher having them under foot, but they love helping so we always try to find something for them to do! Good luck with your range hood, let us know how it goes if you decide to install it.
At 9:00... Here is where things can go sideways, appearance wise. Sawing sections off of that stainless steel chimney can leave some very nasty looking edges. Good luck.
How did you install the bracing in the attic to hold the mounting bracket? I want to relocate my range hood, which coincidentally looks very much like yours, approximately 1-ft over from where it is now.
Did I miss how you vented this after it goes through the ceiling? Because from all intents and purposes it appears that you are just venting it into the attic.... this is a big no-no.... all the steam and grease will be put into the attic......
I’m going thru the same issue. My chimney comes in a rectangular shape already and you cannot take it apart. My option would be to cut it but I don’t want jagged cuts being visible. Let me know how yours turned out.
Gosh it’s been long enough I can’t quite remember, but I believe we cut the inner portion to leave the outer clean… I almost wonder if we went with a. Completely different product to allow for this but it seems like I’d remember that . we MAYBE CUT IT AND PUT THE RUCH EDGE CLOST TO THE HOOD SO YOU COULDNT SEE IT?? I think ? Sorry for yelling and typos. It’s 2 am and I’m feeding a baby
Looks a bit too high off the range, I really hope this range hood has high CFM's. Otherwise the remaining smoke that didn't get sucked out will infiltrate throughout the house.
BIG mistake to have range hood mixing with glasses!! Domestic looks great but for cleaning!! I wonder people build beautiful kitchen for showing off rather than a real cooking! (We use our kitchen for real cookings,,,3-4hr a day of cooking for 15 years and now it is due to remodeling!)
Watching this video makes me really happy I do not have children. And even happier that I'm not trying to make videos with a bunch of obnoxious kids running around and screeching.
Yes missing out. I thought the same thing till I had kids, and now I'm being my wife for more. I miss the screaming, laughing, crying, hugging and pure joy. It's all amazing
Had you measured you range height + ceiling height + read the dimensional data in the instructions before installing. You would have known the distance between the rage and the hood was too short. Come on dude...

Thank you so much for the kind words!! Good luck on your renovation! ❤️

That's awesome!! Thanks for following along, and good luck on your remodel!
Great video! The finished product looks great in the kitchen. My wife wouldn't let me get away with saying ottic either 😂
😂😂 Thank you!
very informative video, is there any way you can show us how do you run the duct to the outside? Thanks!
Thanks, yeah I'll put that video together. It will probably take me a week or two, but I'll link it here in the comments once I have the video up!
Finally got that how to video up! th-cam.com/video/4nUpm89lUnk/w-d-xo.html
Exactly what i was searching for for the lst dew months, thanks alot! 🤩🥳🥳🥳
How did you pull the ventilation hose through the wood without taking apart the ceiling? Was it already installed?
Can you adjust the height of the column/extractor after installation? I keep banging my head on it!
Great job on the adjustment. Question: did you only end up using 1 set of brackets without the bottom 4?
Look good but where did you plug it into, I didn’t see an outlet box on the ceiling?
Stupid question but
Where does that hole 🕳️ in the ceiling go? Whatever it sucks up just stay in the attic?
That looks great and thanks for the video it's going to help me install one
Just as a professional point of view, codes Some areas will not allow flexable pipe to be used and has to be ran completely in hard pipe because grease will be trapped in the creases of the flex pipe. Which causes a fire hazard.
safety is primary
Fort Myers Florida does not allow flex. I had to use rigid pipe. No big deal though
Nicely done. I just subscribed. WIsh me luck with our island install. I'm so paranoid it's going to be off-center somehow. BTW - how many times did your boy fill up his cup and dump it in the sink? lol

Your little helpers are ready to rock ‘n’ roll
They love working with dad! 🙌
Just curious if dead center is right in the middle of a stud, you just carefully decide to go to one side or the other?
Did you connect the power cord direct or is there an outlet ? , What if the ceiling is vaulted ?
We ran an outlet into the ceiling and connected to that. Do you mean where would you connect to power if the ceiling is vaulted?
Home Free Family : Home Renovation okay I see and no I meant what if the ceiling is vaulted , I’m guessing I would have to make a support base for the hanging plate
I’m installing a very similar unit. Where did you run the power cord through the ceiling? Was it adjacent to the flexible duct? Or was it between the outside of the ceiling bracket and the inside of the chimney? Thanks!
There doesn’t seem to be a hole for it in the ceiling bracket.
Matthew Levasseur when I installed mine , I installed a electrical outlet above ceiling which sits right on top of bracket gave it enough space to connect the power cord, I ran the power cord in between the frame and aluminum of the hood range. That's a great idea, I'd never heard of a plumb bob before I posted this video. I'm going to try that next time for sure.
my husband uses a plumb bob

Does it need a ventilation release on the roof or does the fumes go straight to the attic ?
It has to have a ventilation release on the roof. 👍
Home Free Family : Home Renovation You didn’t talk about it in the video reason I’m asking but thanks I appreciate it.

would this be a good choice for a 30 inch range to get a 36 inch hood?
Great video! Me and my wife are in the same spot of it being too low and trying to fabricate it the way you did, were the screws that came with it long enough to go through the hood, bracket, and into the vent? We're worried they're too short and will need to somehow find longer ones or cut it?

What if there is no attic above? How can get this installed on a finished kitchen?
So its venting into your attic? I'm trying to figure out how to install the other side :(
I did another video that shows how to run the duct from the range hood to the outside. th-cam.com/video/4nUpm89lUnk/w-d-xo.html
I had the same laminate 70's floor I just replaced in my kitchen. Good job
Thank you! That laminate was everywhere, I'm pretty sure my parents had it in their house too. 😂
I thought range hoods have to have rigid duct sealed with UL Mastic Tape (No fasteners). not saying you're wrong per your local building code but this would be easier than i thought i had to do it.
How would you rate the air flow (CFM) of that range hood brand/model ?
you did not show what you did up in the attic??? what seam?
I made another video for all of that, I think it's the recommended video at the end of this video. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll get the link.
where can i find that square bracket and the four steel ? thanks
All the brackets and everything came with the range hood.
Nicely done, thank you and subscribed 👍
Is there any wobble in your range hood?
My only suggestion would be to use rigid duct because grease will get trapped in the flex duct folds.
Good to know, thank you!
I also recommend using two of the stainless steel mesh filters. They will catch the atomized grease and smoke particles and then you can just wash the stainless steel filters a few times per year depending on how often you cook.

From where the gas pipe go if there is a center hoob??
Not sure what you mean, there is no gas pipe that goes into the range hood. Are you talking about the gas stove?
How much did it cost you.?
It looks like it was $330, this exact one is no longer available on Amazon, but there were some similar ones for around the same price!
hi i know this is an installation video

@@HomeFreeFamily tq for the reply, but what if your windows are open and there is some draft
Does this vent outside?
Yes, we made a video of running the vent here th-cam.com/video/4nUpm89lUnk/w-d-xo.html

how does the ventilation works?
I did another video showing how to run the vent through the attic, I'll add a link to that video.

Thank you very helpful video. kind regards.
So glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thank you!
Good job 👍
Thanks!
Damn I'm going through the same thing right now the only option I think of is cutting it screws will look bad
Good luck! Hope it turns out!
How did you install the bracing in the attic to hold the mounting bracket? I want to relocate my range hood, which coincidentally looks very much like yours, approximately 1-ft over from where it is now.
I just went into the attic and connected framing 2x4s to the rafters. Then I attached the range hood to that!

It connects to a vent release on the roof. We did that part later so it's not shown in the video.

nice work !!
omg, I really hate the curve design of the range hood. It can get dirty sometimes, I need 500 CFM or higher.
We are having the same dilemma. Poor design for 8ft ceilings, unfortunately. Thanks for sharing. I think we will be cutting our chimney... Maybe.

how/where exactly did you get your power for that hood?
I ran an outlet up to the attic. Then just plugged into that.

Great idea, go for it!
Good job

like the no seams look
Thanks!
Using a plumb bob to find dead center of range top would have been a simpler solution, just for future reference.
I've never heard of that, I'll have to check it out for next time!
What brand
Brand is Zuhne, I believe we bought it off of Amazon.
Plz twll me the size of the room
Vent and grease goes into your attic? Yuck. You have to have a pipe vent thru your roof shingles.
We did another video showing the pipe. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Looks a bit too high off the range, I really hope this range hood has high CFM's. Otherwise the remaining smoke that didn't get sucked out will infiltrate throughout the house.
Yep it does, it works great!

Anyone comment on the health of the kids with the dust?
How you get the template to make me holes?
I just took a piece of paper and drew out four holes so each side would be the same.
