    I can tell you right now, most, if not all? I range hoods require metal duct work.
    Edit. The low end model z line says you can use plastic but their higher end one needs metal. From their instructions. Now if this is really the high end zline then he should have used metal duct work. I guess I've never seen plastic because I've always installed higher end models. Lmao
    Also after seeing him use the wrong size plastic and then sealing it with expanding foam, I don't know if you should follow this guy's instructions.
    Duct tape is a real thing that is supposed to be used for this and it's, not just tying people up. Using spray foam to seal duct work is not code anywhere.

    Jeff for siding penetrations for a cleaner look, use an exterior mounting block that matches your siding color, it eliminates the risk of leaks where you were shown caulking also stops relying on caulk to stop water intrusion, it mimics the blocks that they use on lap siding (without scribing) your siding butts up against it for a clean install. If I remember correctly, Electrical code requires all boxes to be secured.

    The price on this thing is outrageous for only 400 CFM on MAX fan speed. You claimed it was 400 CFM on low, which is false information. If you have more than 4 burners, and actually cook, you need 900 CFM or you’re just wasting time. With the range hood that high above the stovetop, and at only 400 CFM on max, throw a ribeye on the sear burner and watch that kitchen turn into a smoke box.

      Yep... was just about to mention ask about that as well. Here in the US, you have to use the galvanized steel duct work for those. Evidently they are more efficient too, since they're smooth and product easier air flow as well. I ended up putting in blocking though to give the hood something meatier to secure to, though. Also, I did a make-up air system, just because why not? Ironically, I have the exact same z-line hood for my youtube project studio as well. Call me crazy but once you cut down the metal duct you could have pushed the flexible through and attached to the metal, taped it well and pushed it back through before screwing and caulking the vent. Is it not that necessary to seal that well? Seems like it’s just stuffed in and then foam. With moisture I’d think you want a seal with tape. Ty for all your amazing videos, best channel in TH-cam.
    I do have one question about venting out the side of the house. I saw one video you did the same for a bathroom vent. I tried to have one installed, as an electrician I ran the electrical, but hvac dude told me don’t vent out the side because the moisture will go up into the eve and cause rot. Wanted to charge a ton to go through attic and roof.

    Did you reinforced the wall with a piece of wood before screwing the two bolts holding the motor part? Or just screwing in the ceramic tile and drywall? I need to install one of these in a week and I know there's no piece of wood behind my wall only drywall...Thanks!

    So I’m in the process of installing the same model and basically the same ductwork measures. Zline says the preferred duct distance between the top of the hood and the first elbow is 15”+. It looks like yours is a lot shorter. Have you seen any negatives with the short rise?

    Hi , I've the same unit , the motor started grinding and squealing after 13 months , the bearings sounds dry , some days it ok then other times it sounds like it wants to blow up ! Sadly Canadian tire pushed me to the manufacturer and then now that company no longer makes them so they say ! I guess a lesson learnt that Canadian tire buys and then sell stuff that they know the buyer will not have warranty or support for their stuff ,,, well in my case I'm out of hood fan , the lights work tho
    Sad stuff

    I just installed one of these. The blower moving the air out, I see the flaps on the house vent swing wide open… however it isn’t providing much suction at the bottom of the hood. Is this how these hoods work ?

    I'd like to share my valuable experience. My hood came with some really nice metal screw-in type anchors. These normally work very well for me on a variety of applications, but when I got to the part where you install the cover above the hood they pulled right out of the wall, and down came the hood. My advice is to take any plastic or metal drywall anchors and throw them in the trash. Make a bigger hole and use some nice toggle bolts to save yourself some grief. Better still, for a real permanent, quality job, pick out your hood, measure it out on the wall, cut the wall open, and install a 2X4 across where the hood mounting screws go.

    • @danielconnolly6367
      @danielconnolly6367 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am dealing with this now. I used the supplied anchors with my hood fan. They are larger than these and are pulling out a little from the wall in my case so there is an annoying gap behind the duct cover. I just missed the stud on one side so I am thinking to take the cover off and screw into the stud at an angle.

    Hey. Great video. What kind of bit would you recommend for glass tile? Also, it looked like you started drilling at an angle and then leveled up after getting started. Whats the reason for this? Thanks again.

    • @Evan-hq5dt
      @Evan-hq5dt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its because a bit on tile will jump around causing you to miss your mark. Start at an angle to get it to bite and then level it off to prevent it from skipping around.
