    We are manufacturor in China. It was good for us to see how customer install the range hood. It will help us to find a better way to improve our range hoods.

    Thank you very much indeed for placing this extremely good video.
    The make of hood I'm needing to fit (replacing an existing Island hood of a different make) is Falmec, an extrely well built and heavy hood. There seem though, to be large similarities with the hood which you are fitting in this video.

    Doesn't the flexible duct violate the International Residential Code? 2018 IRC, Paragraph M1503.3 Exhaust discharge "Domestic cooking exhauste equipment shall discharge to the outdoors through a duct. The duct shall have a smooth interior surface," etc.
    The flexible duct does not have a smooth interior surface and is a great place to trap grease.

      yes flexible duct is a no-no, particularly if it is going to be buried in a wall etc etc

    Thanks so much! The key to the whole install for me was the bracket idea in the first few minutes....very helpful idea, I can figure out the rest....Thanks! :)

    You were very lucky. Firstly that there was no habitable area above with a floor. Had this been the case the supporting trimmers could not have been fitted between the joists as shown. Secondly that you did not need to fit the rest of the ducting system - presumably it was already in place. Thirdly that there was some wiring in place and fourthly that the decorative stainless steel cladding was in two parts so it could be added at the end. AEG island hoods have the stainless steel cladding in one piece (a nightmare) so you have to put it in place and temporarily support it in the air (with sticky tape) while you do the rest of the installation.

    This video is for 1 story house.
    If the bedrooms are on the 2nd story, mounting supports are critical
    I bought 1 Xtremeair Pro I36, and still try to find out how to install it on my 1st floor.

      Tuyen Tra tie it into the joists which means opening up the drywall then run the pipe between the joists and out

    Great video. I thought codes require rigid steel duct for cooking and heat applications? I am getting condensation on interior of hood metal. It is single wall and the A/C space is cooling the duct exterior. There is warm air in the duct interior but I have a damper at the roof cap.
    I am re-insulating the unvented roof soffet box at the roof decking with closed cell foam.
    I hope this helps. If not, I would add a tight backdraft damper at the base of the unvented box to stop air leakage.
    Then I am out of ideas. Could it be thermal bridging? It is a 6.5 ft x 8 in vertical stack of ducting. The last 21 inches are through an unvented soffet box. If I can use flexiduct as a transition, it would be easier to add a Backdraft damper.

  • @philarican4865
    @philarican4865 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    0:10 You'll have to go into the attic, especially for a new installation. Unless: a) Your hood range is battery operated and,
    b) It's going to vent into the attic and not the roof. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    What do you do when you have a second floor and then an attic above It?

    • @petemiller519
      @petemiller519 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need venting ducts within your floor cavity leading to the outside. This usually involves a lot of work since you have to rip out drywall to install a duct. Good luck with that.

    • @FernandoRodriguez-ds5ri
      @FernandoRodriguez-ds5ri 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the hood is under 36" most would need at least a 6" duct, anything bigger than a 36" hood would require a 8" duct or bigger.

    Nice video however the ducting you are showcasing is illegal to use for this purpose. If the unsuspecting public were to follow your instructional video to the letter they will not only be violating code, they might also suffer potentially devastating results.
    This is according to the International Residential Code M1503 Range Hoods.
    I was in an appliance store yesterday where they were using your video to explain to a customer how to install their island hood. I took it upon myself to correct the video in their presence.

    • @numerousactuary6640
      @numerousactuary6640 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shane Peterson common sense. It needs to be completely secured to the joists vs. relying on the units weight to keep it from moving.

    • @TOPSWATTASHANE
      @TOPSWATTASHANE 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SP-qo1so the entire weight of the unit is being supported by the 1x4 material on top of the 2x4. Worse, it's laid on the flat (narrow) side, which offers the least amount of resistance to deflection. The 2x4 is acting only like a spacer, and offers no support for the load. Basically, you will come home one day to find the entire thing in pieces all over your kitchen floor. Guaranteed!

    I can see right from the start you don't like to measure. So how are you going to vent to the outdoors? So by 3minutes and 38 seconds into the video you have skipped the entire major part of the installation.
    This video is completely useless.
