    What has been your experience with Classical Conversations community? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

    This is my fourth year doing it at hone with my 6 kids. As opposed to only doing memory work, this year I’m doing some essentials with my 12 & 14yo and my 12yo is also doing some challenge A. We definitely pick and choose what we want to study and go at our own pace. It has been beneficial so far.

    Our kids learning alongside their peers is one of the best parts of CC in my opinion. Our community meets at our church which is a HUGE plus. Our community never did the virtual thing and if they did we would have elected to do the same thing you did.

    Thank you. I plan an amalgam of CC + Sonya Schaffer (simply Charlotte Mason) + Montessori. So skipping the cc community is best for my family and gives me more freedom.

    We're looking into classical conversations now so this was definitely helpful to help me gain more info on it. They offered me the option to be a tutor which sounds like what I would make would basically cover our costs (mentioning just incase you join a community and want to cut down on the price!) But it's definitely pricey.

      Yes! Glad i could help. It’s definitely a great option for many families. Just not for me and mine - for now. I did consider tutoring too but while it would reduce the total costs, when you add in the responsibilities of tutoring (time, planning, actual tutoring, etc) not to mention the cost of driving there and back… it wasn’t worth it to me. I’ve been getting along just fine for almost 3 years now without a community so I’ve saved quite a bit of money already.

    Community is the only reason I am even looking at it. I'm just blown away with the costs, just starting with the application fees alone. We just recently went to see what it was about, and really enjoyed it. But the lady over it told me, I would have to pay an application fee of 145.00, 4 times. I have 3 girls, and she told me my youngest would be in foundations and essentials, thats why. Im just kind of overwhelmed by that alone. That's 580.00 just for the application fee.

    Thank you for this video! It is great to hear others opinions on doing CC without a community, I like the idea of CC but was put off by the community aspect as well, because, like you, my kids have their friends from church who they see at youth group, Sunday church services and then activities throughout the week so to add on the community aspect was too much for me.

    I am so glad I found your channel! I have been using Gentle & Classical Preschool but have been wanting to add more for my son. I definitely did not know you could do CC without a community. How do I find out which cycle they are on right now? It would be great to not have to fight for the books like you mentioned! 😂

    As a Challenge 2 student, I love the community as the best part of homeschooling. I think I love the community because it’s my main friend group. If your kid has sports and other groups I can see how the community would be different.

      Thanks for your input! For homeschooled kids, I can see how having a close group of friends would be important. You’re so right though, there are many places where people can make friends. We just made some new ones in our neighborhood!

    I homeschooled with the CC foundations program community but due to financial reasons we couldn’t we apart of the Essentials program community. I made it work but we sure missed our Essentials community.

    This is exactly what I've been wanting to do! Thank you for sharing and encouraging me. I'm happy to know CC can be done without a community. You might have said this and I missed it, but other than the app, do you buy their curriculum books? Or does the app lay everything out for you?

    • @sharayahmauricehomeschools
      @sharayahmauricehomeschools  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m so glad to hear you’re encouraged! Yay! As for curriculum, at the foundations level, you need your own math, reading and writing curriculum. The app has memory work for math, Latin, English grammar, science, history and geography, plus the weekly Timeline focus. This video goes into more detail about *how I do CC if that helps. th-cam.com/video/knbeuQGoh2Y/w-d-xo.html

    I’ve been praying about CC and I felt like I didn’t want to do it because I don’t like my hands tied down to one type of curriculum .. I like the freedom of pivoting and exploring and sitting in a topic of interest for a long time .. I also have an eclectic style but I wanted to try CC just for the memorizing to help my 4 year old remember things more and try and different type of me memorization… so I feel that coming across this video is an answered prayer .. I also can’t be on a strict schedule and we also have a lot of community now so I’m ok .. so now do I have to just download and pay for the app ? My son just turned 4

    • @sharayahmauricehomeschools
      @sharayahmauricehomeschools  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you can get the app. Just pick a cycle and start. That’s all I did and we just follow along from there. The app doesn’t include songs for geography, science and English grammar, nor is the timeline song included. So you can either make up your own songs, or search on TH-cam. I have a few playlists on my channel for songs for memory work if you want to start there. I’ve also saved the timeline song on my channel.

    We just use the app for memory work!!! We do it at our pace and we would need a community that goes at a slower pace!!! We bought cycle 3 as we needed the science from cycle 3!!!

  • @allisonpowell4411

    Do you review any of the previous weeks CC memory work with your kiddos?..or do you just spend a week at a time on the new grammar since they repeat the cycles a few times before starting essentials.
    It can be very overwhelming, but your videos are wonderful- thank you!!!

    • @sharayahmauricehomeschools
      @sharayahmauricehomeschools  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I don’t have a good review system. I’ll kind of just run through all the weeks for one subject, or I’ll just review one whole week on any given day. There’s no rhyme or reason to it lol just whatever I think to do (or remember to do!) my plan is to come up with some sort of review system. I’ve seen a few out there, but just haven’t gotten around to trying them out yet.

    Could you please elaborate more what you do on a day to day basis of what you do, since you aren't apart of a community?

    • @sharayahmauricehomeschools
      @sharayahmauricehomeschools  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Happy to! Like I said, at this stage in the lower Foundations level, it’s really all memory work. I use the memory work from the CC app as the ‘spine’ to our homeschool. Basically I go through the memory work for each subject with my son, daily. Then I build onto it, like for history, we will add to our timeline book, look at library books on the subject, etc. you can see how this kind of plays out in my day in the life video here: th-cam.com/video/WqBMGi6mWDM/w-d-xo.html
      Does this answer your question?

      My family did CC in community last year and this year won't be able to, so I am all ears on how others do it without community.

      What is supposed to be included in the cc community tuition and supply fee ? Is there a way to find that breakdown online?

    • @sharayahmauricehomeschools
      @sharayahmauricehomeschools  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s a great question. You would have to contact your local CC director for the detailed breakdown but just as an example, my local CC community costs were broken down to me like this:
      $145 application fee for the first child and then $55 for each additional
      $60 supply fee per child
      $335 tuition fee
      Facility fee which varies depending on the location and their rental costs. My local community tried to keep it around $50 per child.
      So these costs pay mostly for for the building and the tutors (which pay for a tutor depends on the size of your campus. Mine is 60% of the tuition amount of all the students which is then split equally among the tutors) so that could take up a good chunk of the costs. But exactly where all that money goes, you’d have to talk to your director.
      Also, it’s important to note that I never actually attended my local CC group, so I can only give you the information I managed to gather. I made my decisions based on the cost breakdown listed above and what I understood about CC groups but not what I actually experienced in a CC group. Hope this helps!

      I believe so, except perhaps the application fees. But again, it’s best to contact your local group for specific details.
