Even with all the cons of this job, I am still dreaming of the OR. I graduate next May and plan to enter a Periop 101 type program. I’m older and have worked behind a desk for almost 30 years… ready to move on

I feel ya! The job is a good job to have, but like with any job, there are gonna be cons or things about the job that your not gonna like. Congrats and good luck with your periop program 🙂

The hospital I just worked for does elective procedures on call and even has a 2 hour morning block on the weekends. They do this to be able to discharge patients. So after definitely having to go in for a minimum of 3 hours you still are on call for the emergency cases. I’m in GI so after that block time you can be bumped by the OR and have to come back late at night or the evenings.

IH, When you said GI does that mean you only do GI cases?

Hi there! Love your videos 😊 I’m almost done with nursing school and really considering the OR! Does your facility pick your on call days or can you influence that at all? Do you have to take it weekly? Thanks again!

😀Thanks for watching. So the facility I worked before this one, we picked our days. This job, our coordinator picks them. You can give a heads up if you have something coming up so they won't put you on call that day or days. It just depends on how they do it wherever you will be working.

Did you have to take the Periop 101 exam? If so any tips on how to pass it?
