OMG!!! I’m so excited! I just repaired my Miata window with your video. And I’m a 52 year old mom, who’s never worked on a car. I used electrical tape to hold back the wire, using the door cover to secure the tape in place (in addition to the sticky). Don’t know if it will hold forever, but I didn’t have wire today. Gotta love youtube!
Hi from the UK. Your Miata (Mazda MX5) videos are great: to the point, with no silly rubbish and showmanship. I've got two Miatas' that need work on the windows and your video really helps. Thanks!
Great job. I avoid power windows for the reason you show, its not just the Miata, but other cars as well. My 1991 was 22 years old with crank windows, working well until I sold her. Spritzes of silicone lube on the rails and it was good for 5-6 years between sprtizes. I also have a 12 year old Toyota with crank windows, all trouble free. My brothers 626 had 1 failure in 7 years, $300 repair, and his new one in 3 years, under warranty.
No problem. Thanks for watching. When I first looked into the windows on this car, the previous owner did the same thing. He jammed a metal rod into the driver window track to prop up the window. Sounds like a great Father's Day project.
it might be that the plastic rollers are broken and binding inside the rails. another possibility is that the cables to the regulator are still intact, but motor isn't working. The cables will act as an anchor, keeping the window from moving. Detach or remove as much of the regulator from the glass as you can and try to move it. Then you'll need to rig a way to prop the window up. Good luck.
118cm and 98cm are the cable lengths. It might still be possible to make a new set if you have the plastic wheel attached to the motor where the cables spooled around. If not, you'll just have to buy a new regulator. $144 from Miata mania I think. Check out part 3 to find where to get a new teflon wheel for the window glass and the type of grease I use on the tracks.
They are the same. What did you lube? Did you lube the wheels and tracks of the window, or just the cable? You can have a new cable made at a motorcycle shop. I believe in part 2 or 3 of these videos, someone measured the cable and posted the length needed. You need to show the shop the shape of the anchor (end of the cable) so they can match it. Also, bring the capstan (the plastic pulley the wire goes around) so they can make sure the anchor will fit in the opening.
Thanks for subscribing. what years are yours? Hopefully, I'll be doing some AC work in the near future. I need to convert the miata's old system from R12 to the modern refrigerant, then check it for leaks.
Is this the same as the 1997 Miata? My passeneger window rolls down and up slow and I lubricated it and it was good for a while but it went slow again, and the drivers window motor wire ripped so I just took out the motor from the door and removed the wire from the motor since it is busted. Can I put another wire inside the motor or do I have to get another motor? Thank you.
How did you manually pull the window up? My power window is stuck but I can't even manually pull it up? I feel like if I try any harder to pull the window up ill break something. I don't care if my windows work - I just want to get it up so rain doesn't get in..
Thank you so much, this helped me greatly. How is everything with you? Did that lady keep you from selling your nb? Where's the next Miata project? I hope you're not dead.
whats the process of replacing the front regulator bushing (2:52)? mine are gone and was wondering if its just as simple as removing a few clips or what not.
Nico Espulgar it's been a number of years but from what I remember, there are three or four bolts to remove the metal track that the bushing travels along. It would be easier to remove the glass to access the bushings. Just follow along in the video and focus on the parts about removing the rubber stops and disconnecting the glass and you should be fine.
I lubed the little wheels. Am I supposed to lube the cables? Aww really? I threw the cable away... I removed the motor about a month ago so now just the motor is in the trunk.

Thanks for showing the removal of the Window Regulator, It will sure help me when I fix my nephew's MX5.

Yes Cynthia, the window mechanisms are all the same from 1990-97. I think they're also the same from 99-05.

Thanks a bunch for your videos! Very helpful in that I was able to install a new regulator on my wife's 97 Miata.

Love the video! Please do a regulator removal video on a 02. Seems pretty similar but I see more bolts on mine. Thanks

Try washing the front guide for the window (quater light) .

Well the tape didn't hold (I wasn't confident it would), so I redid it using a zipcord. Should be a permanent fix. Thanks again.
Thanks!!!!
