      Where do I write to you? I have been looking and looking for Creeping Charlies. I found what i wanted got some cuttings, thats all i could find, then I found some that looked similarr…but not exact. I was caring for the cuttings and they were dying . I prayed over them then tried what you said , the API water conditioner. In fact I used it on all my beloved plants. And they’ve all begun to look ugly and to die. I don’t understand, and I am so upset! Please help, what am I doing wrong? I love my plants.

    After your last video on Mycorrhizal Fungi, I started using it on some of my plants. Something remarkable happened. My Kalanchoe has started to bloom for the 1st time in 3 years!! I didn't put it in the dark. No dormancy period, no water deprivation, no voodoo spells.... it was definitely the Mycorrhizal Fungi. It's like a Christmas miracle thanks to you!! Amen.

    My mate went off to India and bequeathed me his spider plant.
    That was in 1969 and I lost count of the number of plants I'd killed, decades ago.
    Even though I've more experience of growing indoor plants than most, this is a channel where I learn a little something new, now and then, so a good place for beginners - and others - to check out.
    BTW, while putting off buying a moisture meter, lifting a plant by it's pot, will give you a good idea of the water available. With practice, it's a handy and reliable way of figuring out if it needs a drink.

    I use coconut coir as a top dressing. It looks good, if deep enough can deter fungus mites, and breaks down to mix later to airate the soil.

    My biggest game changer was when I started using clear plastic pots and slip potting it into a decorative pot. That way you can check the moisture by just looking at it. It also allows you to see if it’s root bound without messing with the roots.

    • @evelynmoriarty5154
      @evelynmoriarty5154 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've started doing the same. I always waited a few weeks at least before repotting new plants, but they went right into decorative pots. The clear pots are no economical, too.

    Thanks, Rich. This is a great reference video for searching out your tips on different things. I've got a light meter but haven't played with it much yet. Watered ol' Richard the ZZ the other day and he's still kicking. I laughed at what you said recently about how maybe they just take a long time to die. Either way, he appears to be hanging in there. I love the amount of light you have now in comparison to your struggle for enough light in your old house. Stay warm out there! I didn't know you had snow.

    in comparison to yourself Im new to this plant nurturing malarky. 30 houseplants and counting...I have surrendered worrying about my peace lilles...I can do no more...so, I have made ceramic blooms and put them in the pots so it looks like I have blooms! it also reminds the plant what they are capable of...when the whim takes them...thank you for all your good advice...

    When I bring a new plant home, I spritz it with half water/half rubbing alcohol. Then I place the entire plant into a large plastic bag, using caution that the leaves don’t lean or rub onto the bag. Spritz more into the bottom of the bag. Then I leave it for 24 hours. This is after the careful inspection you described.

    I love my moisture meters. I have 4 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs. I never change my plants dirt till it's root bound. I make my own soil bcus it's to expensive buying specialty small bags of soil 10 percent off is nothing when 16oz of soil is 40.00

  • @aquafina6544
    @aquafina6544 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I drink a lot of distilled water by the gallons so, i save the jug fill with water leave for a week or more (add water conditioner now)and it was working great. I also add fertilizer/plant food to one or two and alternate when i water. This eliminates flushing and over fertilizing.
    I love your channel Rich, those awesome big windows in your new home make me so envious. But, i guess I'll just stick to my low light and grow lights😂😂 bcus I won't be finding a home with good windows in this area that is within my budget.

    Light. Full sun, you can see your shadow in full detail. Bright indirect light, shadow is dark but not as full and has a definitive outline. Medium light, shadow is dark fuzzy, no outline. Low light has a faint shadow very transparent.
    Hope that helps out everyone!

    My biggest fear (recently)... I bought a silver sword that was half dead and marked down to 4.99$ (CAD) and decided to pull a "Mr. Sheffield" and cut it right back. Not only is it thriving but I ended up with (at last count) NINE growth points. Proof that 1) fears are often times just silly and 2) even seasoned planty peeps can learn from you (esp. it is okay to pull out the scissors!!). Appreciate you to the moon and back.

    It surprises me that you insist on moisture meters being reliable. I find that the more chunky the soil mix is, the less accurate the moisture meter is, for obvious reasons. You are more likely to get a ‘dry read’ with a chunky substrate, as opposed to a dense one.
