    Wow! You're coming out with a whole heap of content right now, loving it. I actually had one of these on the way a little while ago, not sure what happened with it so I'll look to be making sure I get one on the way, because this is perfect for me and exactly what I want. I have biolite camp stove that I like using for cooking that's a similar style, but I want something separate for a fire pit

    Hello, from Florida USA! Great review and I just received the Mesa XL and have been impressed! Like you, I use wood, but I've seen videos on the pellet use as well. . . . .burns just as nicely as you described! Keep up the fine work!

      I’m in South Florida, and it’s pellets all the way.

    I use a stick of wood a few inches shorter than what you are using. It appears that when you place your sticks in the Mesa, they are a bit taller than the holes on top. You should avoid that, especially if they're touching the sides AND taller than the holes.
    Thanks for the great review, I agree, these are really nice stoves!

    I understand they make a heat shield for this which will add to its value.

    The XL burns longer and better, would be a nice addition to the smaller one.

    Will try this with Swedish Torch style burn, using hardwood chunk slightly thinner and shorter than inside volume, split into quarters. Nice job presenting 1 & 2.

    Ive got the xl - using pellets - the first burn is great but then trying keep a good flame and burn after the initial one has waned is a complete pain the ass - too few and barely anything happens to many and its suffocates it.

      I bought the mesa first before the XL came out, then I wanted an upgrade so I bought the campfire (also before the mesa XL came out). The small mesa is ok, but I do like the campfire better. It can hold bigger pieces of wood, and more of it, and it burns longer.

    What’s the table it’s sitting on?

  • @Ira88881
    @Ira88881 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You have to start any burn with these stoves from the top down. This is science and fact. You’ll get longer, more even burns.
    I use pellets in my WalMart Ozark Trail clone (a bit larger than the Mesa/different configuration/), and it’s always the same 1-hour even burn.
    I understand why people use wood, but with the pellets, you just start it and forget it. No need to add extra to get that full hour.

    Great review! I just ordered 2 - the original Mesa and the XL - to compare sizes.
    Do you have any recommendations of pellets and wood chunks to use?

    • @TheMidweekEscapeArtist
      @TheMidweekEscapeArtist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m jealous! I highly recommend hard wood chunks, unless you have time to manage the fire every 5 min or so with pellets

    Love the video that you made I was wondering do you know what the outside temperature gets to on the fires burning good but low in there? While it’s burning can you pick it up or is it too hot? I thought about putting vinyl sticker on there didn’t know if it would burn it up

    • @TheMidweekEscapeArtist
      @TheMidweekEscapeArtist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! It does get hot, i wouldn’t put any stickers on there, they will melt.
