    I used to make a stove like this as a kid with two different sized tin cans. Brings back memories

    Thank you for taking the time to show the one year review. I always wanted to know how the Solo stoves held up under field conditions. It looks like a good product.

    Thank you, this is the best review of the Solo Stove Campfire that I've seen. This kind of detail and real use experience is surprisingly hard to come by in other reviews.

    I just made one out of tin cans. Still works the same.. I also do wood carving so i have lots of small shavings to burn, partly why i made it. Let me just say that these shavings, especially pine, work amazing to get it going very quickly. They smoke like crazy and really promote gasification 😁🔥🔥🔥

      It is similar but won't work the same has a double skinned gasifier ...

    I would try to keep the fire/fuel below the air induction holes after you get it going and resist the urge to feed it too much. Once is rolling larger diameter, shorter "chunks" work well for me and save having to nurse it along with tiny twigs and keep the output cleaner. I haven't used these commercial models at all, but have made soup can variants for decades, so my experience base isn't apples to apples with yours.

    For the gasifier to work, the wood being burnt has to be below the top inner holes.

  • @wulliebandparades6604
    @wulliebandparades6604 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Got to agree with getting any wood gas stove going , sometimes it's difficult to get the gasification due to the tinder or the available fuel .

    Good video. I’ve found my gassifiers start up best with a top down burn. Less fiddling and gasifying starts up faster as long as most of the fuel is below the inner holes. All start up techniques will work but that’’s just been my experience.

    • @mikemorgan5015
      @mikemorgan5015 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What gets the convection draft going if the heat is that high? Seems the fast and hotter the inner skin get, the more air it should draft. I'm speaking on theory, not experience with this stove. I've made smokeless stoves on the same basic lines as this going back 30 years. These look nice. I 100 percent agree that for a clean burn, the fuel has to be below the air ports, which should also produce more heat for cooking, though it doesn't "look" like it.

    Let me give you a little tip.. Let the pan heat up first. Then cut a piece of the fat and let it render down. Season the steaks then throw the steaks in the pan.

  • @kristaps2010
    @kristaps2010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It’s expensive but I think longterm comparing to buying gas can to ups it will be worth it. Nice piece of kit. Back in a day at camping we made something similar out of tin, but no double wallof course. Probably makes sense to go for the medium stove, not the smallest one? Good stuff.

    It's too bulky and not very stealthy mate. And way too overpriced for what it is. I think Ohuhu or one of them Chinese no-brand ones for a tenner, would be a better option - still too bulky for me though. You can use 2 cans and a multitool to make one for free, and it would be much lighter and less bulky. Depends what your needs and environment are really. Sometimes all you need is to boil a Crusader cup (750ml), and in 15min burn time you can cook up a whole hearty meal.

    • @WorldSurvivalist
      @WorldSurvivalist  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its relatively easy to pack as it basically thr size of a small billy can. So if yiur doing a trip that you have a pot like that anyway its no more space. It is actually far more stealthy than a similar size fire as it burnt far more efficiently. A few people have talked about coffee can type burgers. This is not thr same thing, its not just a can you burn in its double walled with air intakes and outlets to alow for a second gasification burn. You don't get that by putting holes in a can. It is over priced tho I'll give you that.

    • @garenkarapetian709
      @garenkarapetian709 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WorldSurvivalist I’m well aware what a wood gas burning stove is. What I meant by saying it’s bulky, there are other gasification stoves that can be obtained for like £10-£20 which are the same volume as yours, but pack in half the size. Have a look at Ohuhu - they’ve been around for more than 10 years. But there are even more compact ones out there.
      I guess “stealthy” is a relative and subjective term.
      I don’t have a Billy can in my setup (no space for it) - just a Crusader cup.

    I can't see the difference between that $200 can and an empty tomato juice can with 10 holes on bottom and top. When you're done with the can, you can just throw it away.

    Man you've got to learn how to properly cook a steak. Heat the pan toss in a little butter, marinate steaks beforehand if you like, season with black pepper and turn once. While cooking other side put butter on the steak let it melt into the steak and you're done. Never cook anymore than medium at the most. I prefer dales marinade seasoning. Takes only 10 minutes. Try it and you'll never cook a steak any other way again.

    Great stove but these days there are better and for cheaper. My Solo stove was a disappointment when 1 of the 3 tabs broke off for no reason. Less than 10 uses and it just fell off when taking it out of the bag.

    • @WorldSurvivalist
      @WorldSurvivalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tabs? Also what's better and cheaper? I'll give it a go

    • @eadghe
      @eadghe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WorldSurvivalist He did not give you an answer, so I will give you an answer, but without any experience. Cheaper models are made by Tomshoo, Stabilotherm, Robens, Toaks and Lixada. Some are even titanium and cheaper, BUT I don't know if they are the same size and I highly doubt the quality of the titanium, even if it holds up. Frankly, I bumped into your video, because I was looking for a high quality wood burner, since my current hobo is just a fold out hobo, which was not cheap, but not the most expensive either. Sometimes you just pay for the name and sometimes the quality does have its price. In case I go for a solo stove product, I hope it won't fail me. Looking for titanium btw. Cheers!
