Great video! Thinking about replacing my existing sidelites to new one due to one of them having an exterior shattered glass and I think you've given me the motivation to do so. Good work there!

wouldn't it be better to paint the door after you took it off the hinges and cut the hole? just a thought...

Heh, was my first thought too.... "Step 1: Paint the door, including the portion that you're going to cut out and discard."

So the new glass kit is close $500.00🤦‍♂️😂. I can buy a new door WITH the glass already installed for that.

Can you? For front doors that are insulated against heat I can only find ones around 800-1200$ depending on how fancy the glass is.

@@00Jj262 ; Well yes. Pre hung door prices are anywhere from $249.00 to several thousands of dollars or more. I’m referring to a pre hung 36” steel insulated exterior door with no side lights and half glass. I recently paid $259.00 plus tax.

always be sure to skip using a drop cloth.....it will only ruin the fun you'll have removing paint stains from your floor and door trim.

Was that door all wood or did it have the metal exterior covering?

First off, I'm very new to home ownership and using power tools... after you measure and draw your cut lines, you can just free hand the straight line cut? The glass has enough wiggle room so that it doesn't' need to be super super SOOPER precise? Also, other videos say not to cut all the way through the door. Do you know why they suggest to cut halfway through, flip the door and repeat?

Yes! Make sure to do your best to stick to the line, but it doesn't have to be 100% perfect at all.

The reason for cutting each side separately is due to the type of door. This is a steel door which is 2 thin layers of steel with foam sandwiched between. If you use a long blade that goes all the way through, the blade will be pushing the 2nd layer of steel out as you cut it so it will be all bent out and a very jagged cut and require a lot of filing to smooth it out. If you have a solid wood door, you could cut all the way through.

Looks great! But doesn't anyone else notice that the knob to open their deadbolt is right there next to the glass?? What's to stop someone from breaking the glass amd easily getting in!?

    • @TheRandrx2

Have you ever tried breaking a newer door window or even a newer regular window? It is very hard even with a hammer. Also, this is tempered glass as well.
