For you see, Queen Maud Land's boundaries were never defined when the Antarctic Treaty went into effect, but it was always assumed it's boundaries be defined as reaching the South Pole and extending all the way to the 60th Parallel South (60° S) which the other claims have. So the only explanation that doesn't violate the treaty is that Queen Maud Land's assumed boundaries were officially defined to reach the 60° S and the South Pole for the first time on 12th June 2015.

Because of the way the currents float in the Arctic Ocean all of the ice is now pushed up against the Canadian coastline while the waters around Russia have become increasingly free of ice. This means Russia can now charge ships taking cargo from East Asia to Europe. They have more access to minerals and raw resources in Siberia and the Arctic region as well.
