I'm in the middle of building this kit. The decals were useless. Disintegtated when removed from the backing. Replaced them with some for the Dinky mobile, which is very similar in size. I'll have to mask & paint the white stripes. I reglazed the cab as the kit part was scratched beyond use and made a new rear wall for the cabin. The radiator grill will be replaced by PE mesh. Got the same paint as you used here. Filled in the rocket launcher holes and got some AK headlights to replace them. Made sure the driver has the proper sideburns too.
Late to the party but a big thx for highlighting the Sci fi magazine. I managed to source one on ebay after seeing this (I am restoring a dinky mobile and Interceptor and have the plastic kits as well so source photos are a must).
This came in handy. Picked up both Imai Shadomobile and Sky1 at the flea market area of the Riverside Iowa Trekfest this past year and both are up on the workbench next but the color was driving me nuts trying to match. Guess I'm heading for the auto parts store rather than the hobby shop. Recent retirement has got me digging into mine and my late wife's build someday model closet and considering some of those kits are 40+ years old I scanned the old decals ( in some cases improved and expanded on) just in case. I've given the old sheets a couple coats of Dullcote and as of now I've only had to reprint a set from my late wife's Star Trek 5 Enterprise and that was due to her storing the kit in a less than optimal location before we met and the decals had suffered damage that I fixed in Photoshop and effectively recreated a new sheet.
Greetings Mr., tell you that it is an original piece, the one you have, the difference in the box in reissues the color was stronger and the adhesive that marks C was later gold, you have the model, B-1242-700, original .
Halfords is your friend. The correct colour is Ford Glacier Blue - remember that most of the models from that era were painted the colour of Derek Meddings' current car.
Hello. I’m just about to build this kit and have a question. Isn’t it possible to build and paint the body before installing the interior? Since the chassis goes in last there should be enough space to install the cabin and windshield sideways, then place into position. I tried it as a dry fit and it seems to work unless I’m missing something (which is very possible). The same thing goes for the mesh screen above the windshield. Great video, thanks.
@@MangaMax07 Thank you. I wanted to make sure there wasn’t something I was missing before I glue it up. I did a test fit and it seems only the front apron needs to go in at the same time. That still gives me room to put the interior in afterwards.

Yeah, it's put me off getting any more vintage kits. Or, i scan them and print them out on decal paper, and don't even attempt to use the originals

Having built a studio-scale replica, I can confirm that the panelling on the body halves IS correct

I also learned the hard way that most decals on classic kits are pretty unusable. You have to scan and reprint them beforehand.

The SKY 1 kit has a tiny SHADO Mobile with it.
