Fun fact: One of the founding members of The Easybeats was George Young...older brother of Malcolm & Angus Young...founders of AC/DC. George played a major role in their success including producer in their early years!

Also George and Harry Vanda, the lead guitarist here, are the George and Harry mentioned in Sultans Of Swing.

Friday on my Mind was released in 1966. The Easybeats are an Australian rock group. The song was written by band members George Young and Harry Vanda. The song was a worldwide hit, reaching no. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 1967 in the US. In 2001 the song was voted "Best Australian Song" of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA).

When I was 13, in 8th grade, I was riding home on the school bus on Friday afternoon and this song came on the radio. We didn't even have to ask, the bus driver cranked it up and the whole bus was singing along!

Maybe every generation says this but… I love the music I grew up with from the early 60s to the late 70s.

Love this tune. "The Easybeats" were an Australian band in the 60s. In Australia they were considered one of the most important Rock acts during the 60s. They enjoyed a level of success that in Australia rivalled The ,Beatles. Read the story about Lead singer Steve Wright in later years. It's awful what rhey did to him (and thousands of others, no doubt) However, that does not take away the greatness of this song, or singer Steve Wright's energy. ❤🎵🎙

Well it's about time you got to these guys, I loved Stevie Wright's energy and cheek. Have you seen Stevie Wright doing his song Evie, a 3 part love song that really takes you on a journey that ends in tragedy. But what a performance! He was just coming back on the scene, in the 70's, after not completely recovering from drug addiction. Another great song of his that another Aussie band, Rose tattoo covered, was black eyed bruiser, which is heavy but trancey too.
Harry Vander, lead guitar and George Young on rhythm, went on to form a duo called flash in the pan, with their song down among the dead men, but they wrote heaps of songs that other artists did, like Grace Jones with walking in the rain and fellow Aussie singer John Paul Young with the world wide hit (on it's 2nd time around) love is in the air.
P.S. I think you've seen the Divinyls with Chrissy Amphlet performing an easy beats song I'll make you happy. I love both versions, but if you are going further down the easy beats rabbit hole, you might also like wedding ring and sorry, as well as I'll make you happy.

Vanda & Young (part of this group) were like the Lennon/McCartney of Aussie music. Besides their Easybeats hits they wrote songs for John Paul Young (Love is in the Air & Yesterday's Hero) - themselves 'Flash & The Pan' (Hey Saint Peter & Down Among the Deadmen) & the legendary song 'Evie' (Parts 1, 2 & 3) by Stevie Wright - lead-singer for the Easybeats. Sadly in the 70s he was affected by drug issues but this performance was still amazing - th-cam.com/video/lPveBD6WWXc/w-d-xo.html
