Hello everyone, welcome to the third Dev Diary & Dev Stream Overview for AOW4: Ways of War! The Dev Diary today is all about the upcoming Intrigue Happenings, which are a diplomatic extension of the Cosmic Happening system introduced in Eldritch Realms. The Dev Diary starts at 1:57 with a deeper dive into SPOILERS starting at 8:50. The Dev Stream portion begins free of spoilers at 17:05 and Thomas showed off quite a lot of upcoming content with my first look at the Ranger skill tree at 29:20, new Pantheon unlocks starting at 36:30 that include the greatest Society Trait to date, and the Dragon Lord overhaul that Thomas committed his very soul in to crafting at 43:10. See you next week and thanks for watching!
Love how they changed Dragon transformation, now we will be able to properly make our dragons, also new claw options are great, sadly no wingless option.
35:00 OMG all 4 premade leaders look amazing.Probably Woko Ulang is my favorite. Did not play Wukong but now I can do my own "fantasy monkey king riding jade leopards" thing. Cant wait!
2 new Society Traits from pantheon, create your Mercenary/Adventurer Guild/Kingdom. For Roleplay, Cult of Personality fits well with factions where characters control units, or summon and strengthen the connection of units to the world.
Inbefore Blint recruits 4 other pantheon versions of himself on an occursed pentagram to form the cult of Blint. Im also pretty sure the nature breath also does damage aswell in order to be useful to undead dragons that do deathdamage (frost+blight) and often have random zombies in the middle of their breath, as opposed to only being intended for nature builds.
I'm not saying that I imagined a Cult of Blint but... 😉 I hope it also does damage! Thomas mentioned that he tried to streamline the breaths and changed the ones that were both damaging to enemies and healing to allies to do just one thing, but I could have misunderstood.
@@Fableheim Yeah they just need to make sure they dont cut down variety of usecases for the sake of balance. Id rather have a bit overpowered mechanics then not being able to create what i want. Like a two handed retaliator or dragon that is thematicly only losely tied to the damage type. This also goes for visuals, like dont make the fey fog green so you can use it for other themes that need fog aswell like drowned undead vikings or as smog from an ruthless industrial rulers city ect.
It's niche, I know, but my favorite thing about seeing these updates is the callbacks to previous AoW games. It's nice to see Xorn back, albeit a bit unexpected. Still waiting on my boys Symon and Ke-nan from Shadow Magic to show up
@@ShayGamerD3 Thomas mentioned that he worked so hard on getting the Dragon Lord rework in that it made him sick, and that's a level of dedication that's on the rarer side these days. I have 0 regrets about purchasing the bundle.
@@Fableheim For sure, if they had some super special deluxe edition I would buy it too, since I really feel that I get my money's worth with AoW4 (and this is quite rare these days).
A bit sad to see they removed ghostfire from the chaos transformation, can't make a calamity dragon at home anymore. But I am inspired to make a proper dracomancer who unlocks every dragon related tome. Meeting the requirements for both the tome of prosperity and the tome of calamity will be a fun.
@@Sten43211 oh I know. Without the ghostfire you're just choosing between a breath that does fire+frost damage with either burning or frozen. The removal of ghostfire as an upgrade is what I was sad about.
34:25 I think you swapped that out, it is opening, so extra damage for targets at full helath, but less when they are damaged, pretty much opposite to execute, but you might be able to combine both I guess.
Dude, that Cult of Personality Trait man. In a PvP setting that is OP as hell especially if you have two ascended Dragon Lords along with the money to pay their upkeep (I don't know if they changed that)
The Dragon Lords still have a 30g upkeep cost, but it doesn't look like it was increasing as they went down the Signature Tree. Thomas mentioned that Cult of Personality would probably be instantly banned in multiplayer. 😅
@@Fableheim alot of the tome and trait combos are unbalanceble which is why I prefer the AoW 3 class system. tomes when they were released I said that they felt like a endless dlc machine and I were right. It is a method to intergrate dlc into the base game but it have issues as devs can't test combos in advance so there will allways be something broken. They also REALLY need to fix city expansion, played 4 enough now and city expansion by ai isn't exactly stellar lets call it that. I have besieged cities and had home terf regen all the way into the city itself thanks to how it decided to expand towards 1 resource further way and ignore all the basics in good growths. Also had tile sstolen by city states that are 2 tiles from my capital from city states 6 tiles away while they had the same resouce 2-3 tiles away from their spawn and ignored it completely. AoW 4 is better with the lower tier units powercurve/ summons and necromancy better balanced but city expansion and tomes are and will remain a issue
Oh my god was I confused for a second, when you started reading at 0:48 Why? Because for a moment I thought the video jumped back, because you started the Intro again. XD That "Hello everyone..." and "Hi everyone..." started way too similiar.
I was really disappointed by them showing flow charts and actual code, that completely killed any immersion, as in 60 feet under dead. At least I wished I hadn't opened this dev diary.

Those straw hats are called kasa. And the basket hat is called tengai. And tengai-gasa are ridiculous looking, and I love em for that.
Please keep up the coverage!

15:25 it's exclusive with Toll of Seasons cuz there can be only one happening at a time

The Dragon Lord Changes Are Going To Be So Much Fun ^^

This was really nice. There were a couple of things I missed in the stream that I found here.
The next dev diary will be about the hero rework.

In terms of complexity, this game already surpassed AoW3, I hope they'll keep going in this direction.
Also, it really shows that this is the labor of love.

Pretty sure you can still do that by being either chaos or shadow, and taking the other type of breath weapon at lvl 12...

New dragon head looks similar to what Blessed Dragon has, celestial tier 2, could go for cat like dragon.
That's what it's called! I couldn't remember. I'll never say no to a cat dragon run but I wonder what it would be inspired by.
@@Fableheim the only one I know is Toothless, but, he has different head, so the cat dragon probably has to be created.
There is this little game in development called 'None Shall Intrude', think you might like it.
I'm downloading the demo right now -- thanks! 😊

I had Fatality on the brain, sorry! 😅
@@Fableheim I knew it, it would be better as a finisher
Idea for the next Play through. Rollplay the Realm of Knock on the coffin lid :) There are a lot of characters there :)
The next playthrough is focused entirely on the new Oathsworn content, but I like that idea -- it's been added to the list!

Hahaha, that would've been a neat trick if I had noticed that!
Fableheim, how do you have campaigns lasting more than 150 turns, is that a setting some where?
Turn score victory to long (200 turns) or off for unlimited turns, no sudden game end unless another victory condition was met.
@@PatrickWalker-mm6ls Thank You
So, no dual blades assassin as a Godir?
Afraid not. :c
