    The old girl gets it done!!! Doesn't matter what color it is, old iron horsepower was under rated. No electronics and computers to regulate what it did. Just an engine and gears and lotsa grunt!!

      The tread type also has to factor in on how well a tractor pull along with the proper weights that put the horse power to the ground regardless of what the color of the tractor is also

      For a simple hard pulling old tractor the JD8400 gets the job done. Mine oldie 4640 & "4850 mfd" took a trip to Mexico in 2000.

      @@angus4202 well certainly if it’s been done before it can be done again. But the big thing is they’re just not as productive as a mfwd tractor. No sense in burning more fuel with slipping tires.

    This is why everyone loves the old iron so much - sure the newer stuff can do a better job and not work so hard but the old iron WILL do it, even if it has to work harder than you thought it could. If anyone needed another reason as to why your dad likes the 46 so much....just point them to this video lol

    Never doubted it. I grew up running a 4440, you throw those axle duals on the rear, kick in the posi-track, and go. We had an older 11-shank chiselplow and we'd hook a 12-foot disc behind the plow. You couldn't go as deep as you could without the disc, but we could till up and smooth out in one pass.
    The 40-series was some of the best of what they called the Iron Horses out of Deere.

    We had a John Deere 360 32' double offset back in the 70's. Pulled it with a Case 2470 (170 hp, 4WD) One day the front driveshaft sheared off and the back tires just dug a hole -- didn't move a bit after we lost the front wheels. Proved the value of 4WD to us!
    Had a loud-moth neighbor who was pulling another 360 with a 2WD John Deere of about the same hp. He kept going on about how his JD could our pull our Case. We invited him to hook onto our 360 and show us but he never did. We had our discs hard surfaced and they penetrated where his just packed. ;)

    The old IRON HORSES!!! Pretty awesome a 40 year old tractor still can get the job done…my question is…will these newer tractors still be viable and doing what they’re doing now, 40 years from now?
    Beautiful new tillage piece you guys got. A lot on how a chisel pulls is what you’re running for points. We run a 9 shank JD 714 mulch tiller w/4” concaved twisted shovels and that makes our 200hp mfwd JD 8300 work…dualed and weighted up!

    Surprisingly just the right amount of slippage and if you are in "C" range then plenty of power so looks like a perfect match. There's something about the 4600 model that just oozes power. I ran a 4620 with a 6 bottom plow and it just never pulled down as opposed to the 4020 with 5 bottoms which required constant draft control. And it was also one of the first with a real quiet cab.

    • @stevehaller6332
      @stevehaller6332 ปีที่แล้ว

      This tractor would be able to pull this implement except down the road if it had the 8 speed power shift transmission the part of hydraulic system that runs the transmission takes up to much horsepower where the quad range transmission does not need the hydraulic system. That is the only reason this 4640 pulled this implement like it did.

I have watched you using your 4640, & have seen some online. My children are all grown & gone, I am probably (your fathers age) & I don't have horses anymore & am thinking about selling hay, for a little extra income.
