    Love seeing those classic tractors and the 2250 with the cat V8 looks cool. I just bought a 1970 Massey Ferguson 1150 with the Perkins 510 cubic inch V8 nicely painted up and restored with brand new tires. Good used tractors are bringing top dollar at auctions now.

    The 2255 was produced from 1972 to 1976, and through 1974 it had the 3150 V-8 I am seeing here (9.4L/573 CID), and then for 1975-76 it changed to the 3208 (10.4L/636 CID, same 4.5" bore and 5" stroke as earlier 3160).

    I’m impressed that the lights even work on the 880 after sitting all those years. Also on the 2255, I think some of them had a pull string on the back to help start….

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When I pulled the light switch, I thought... this is an effort in futility, and yet they all lit up. That's probably where all my luck went, because I didn't win the powerball last night. And why I forgot about the pull string on the back of a Cat.

    I had two Massey 4 wheel drive tractors, a 1500 with a 3150 and a 1505 with a 3208.
    3208 would start almost too fast so I put a Murphy system on it so it would have oil pressure before it started.
    1505 with the 3208 had way more power, must have been turned up?
    They were good tractors, not great but good.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no replacement for displacement. The marine application of the 3208 would really put out some power, but when you have basically an infinite heat sink to cool the engine, you can do that.

    • @Ashcrash82
      @Ashcrash82 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris I have a lot of friends that worked for Cat back in those days. One told me the 3208 was fine in most ag / light truck power levels, but the marine versions with turbos and injectors set up for power numbers 300+ hp, they tended to have a lot more problems.

    How different what the 3150 from 3208?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Displacement was the biggest difference, with the 3150 having 573 cubic inches and the 3208 having 636. They were both tuned to Oliver's specs, so the 3208 only ended up with 2 more horsepower. The injection pump on the 3150 was a straight inline arrangement, but the 3208 pump looks like a small v8 engine, so it took up much less space. There were other smaller differences as well.

    • @bendunkelman4853
      @bendunkelman4853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatOliverGuyChriswas the the 3208 just better? And could you drop a 3208 right in is your 3150 died?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At first, no. The early 3208s had a problem with dropping valves. We had a customer that got a complete new engine for his 2255 because of that problem. Oliver paid for it, and I'd be willing to bet they passed the bill along to Cat. The 3208 was the replacement for the 3150, so they look almost identical on the outside and will fit in the same space. There's a replacement for the 3208 that will drop right in as well, but I don't recall the model number of that one off the top of my head.
