    Thank you for this. I just had one stray strand curling towards my dogs eye I wanted to get and hopefully now I can do that one small bit with confidence!

    Awesome!! After like 10 minutes training with your tips I was able to get my squirmy shmoodle to hold still for 2-3 seconds at a time and even brush the top of her head while doing so! I was amazed. I think she'll eventually let me groom around her eyes.

    The "upside down V" .... great instruction. I have been grooming our little "Morkie" for about four years now. I never seem to get it right when it comes to trimming above her eyes. It always looks like she's wearing a visor. I remember hearing ... don't cut everything off between her eyes because it's meant to "hold something up .." like a bridge. So I've been wary of cutting there. But this "upside down V" is the part I've never gotten right. I'm going to give this a try. Our little dog has silky hair and she is high maintenance. :). Thank you for the nice video.

    Watched this video and trimmed Maudy's eyes 2 minutes later. She looks like a new dog, and it all went down surprisingly easy and quick. Thanks! But of course I know her so well and she trusts me. I can't imagine doing it for a dog I don't know.

      That’s my only problem. I could easily trim her if she’d be still.

    My dog is terrified of clippers. What do I do to help? :)

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Some dogs are scared of the noise and feeling. When this happens to us we keep the clipper turned on but keep the blade away from their body. We gently stroke their body with the clipper whilst it's on to desensitise them. Eventually they don't mind the sound or the feeling. Treats on hand always work well too.

    Is that for all dogs or just this breed ?

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a basic trimming guide for most dog breeds that require trimming around their eyes excluding dogs with eyebrows such as Schnauzers. It's always best to visit a groomer for a professional service, however, this video is to help those who weren't able to do so during lockdowns or for those who would like to keep hair out of a dog's eyes between professional grooms.

    how do you keep the dog still?

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, this can be the hardest part most often. It's best to get a dog used to getting their face touched and brushed from puppy age, however, start by rewarding them with treats whilst holding their chin and stroking between their eyes and the tops of their head and cheeks. Keep building up their tolerance to being brushed and remaining still with positive reinforcements like treats. In some cases we find some breeds are sometimes better than others as working dogs breeds or have working breed traits can be more hyperactive. The more a dog is used to be handled and comfortable with it the better they will be at being calm and still.

    My girl flinches away from the scissors 😩

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We find if you keep the scissors closed and stroke the top of a dogs head with them to get them more used to it (as well as giving treats) this might help : )

    What do I do when she won’t let me even get close to her face with scissors or clippers? She is 15 and I have to keep the hair out of her eyes

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Practice stroking her head and in between her eyes with the scissors closed and with your hand whilst giving her treats. This will slowly desensitise her to the scissors. Then you can gradually start making small trims around her eyes.
