I owned in 82 the very same vette. The collectors edition was the only model where the rear glass hatch opened. The 78 L-82 4spd anniversary had a non opening rear hatch. I found my 78 was actually faster than my 82. Fuel injection was moody, overdrive transmission hunted on hilly roads. But, it was beautiful. A lot more luxurious than my 78. It became a grand tourer. Nice fully equipped luxo 2seater. @ times I would allow a 3rd rider behind the seats. 1 time w/ T-tops off, I almost got a ticket. Gr8 long distance traveler. Pretty decent MPGs. Gr8 car Lou.

Nice Car, the 1082 collector edition for North America came with an 85MPH speedometer. The 140 MPH speedometer in the video hints that the dashboard has been removed and refitted at least once

Never had the opportunity to own one and yes I do want 1 1978 through 83 or my favorite the owners of the dealership always had Corvettes and I was lucky enough to be the only one to work and drive them and it’s now my career thanks for the review and memories

I had an '81. . .It was the last of the 4-barrel 4-Speed 'Vettes. . .A drunk blonde plowed into it in my apartment complex parking lot on an icy winter night about 2 in the morning. . .I had it under a carport, but she managed to nearly destroy the rear-end of it anyway. . .After I finally got done haggling with my insurance company (the blonde claimed, or I should say lied and said that someone had hit her in the rear and pushed her car into mine) I received a check for the damage. . .And on the very next day, before I had a chance to have the damage to the rear-end fixed, a drunk in a pick-up truck pulled right out in front of me from a bar parking lot and there was no way I could stop without plowing into him. . .He managed to get his crummy truck in gear and drove off from the scene! The cops caught up to him after he plowed into someone else at an intersection about 2 blocks away. . .Now both the rear and front of my "Vette were heavily damaged. . .I finally sold it to a guy who rebuilt Corvettes. . .And that was the end of my"Corvette" adventure. . .It was 5 years old when I bought it, and it only had 14,000 original miles on it. . .I paid $14,750 and had one-year to go on my loan when these two idiots came into my life and pretty much destroyed my Corvette dream. . .Oh well, I was gonna park it and detail it when the loan was paid off. . .Guess it just wasn't meant to be. . .

I graduated high school in '82. There were two very prominent and beautiful twin daughters of a very successful real estate company who were in my class and happened to have a pair of them. I remember one was red and I'm not sure of the other one's color, but I'm thinking white. They were beautiful cars, no doubt and I was jealous! The problem is, those cars were really slow. The Camaro was faster than the Vette that year and my brand new '82 Mustang GT was even faster. Yeah, a 157 hp Mustang was the fastest American production car in 1982 (The Boss is Back campaign). I had the engine out for major mods to race in SCCA F prepared in about a month, but that story is for another day. I still think the old C3 Vettes were absolutely stunning. I loved the late 60s and early 70s ones in particular. My friend had a '69 convertible and I still remember the night when Cardinals won the '82 world Series and we drove downtown with the top down in very chilly weather to celebrate with thousands of fans who were all over the streets. The engine was about to rebuilt and the M22 rock crusher transmission sounded like crushed rocks and the oil smell was horrid, but it was still an amazing night. I love the old C3s!

the Cross Fire fuel injection system was twin throttle body FI units on a cross feed manifold. The left one fed the right cylinder bank and the right one fed the left cylinder bank. When maintained properly it was reliable, the trick was getting them balanced with each other, much like tweaking a multi-carb system. It appeared on 1982 and 1984 Corvettes. Possibly on other GM models. It was replaced in Corvettes with the TPI system in 1985.

nice car. a lot of content on these final C3's...actually technically sophisticated considering what else was available at that time...can't judge it by today's standards. OTH, port injection will always beat out a throttle body, so not surprising the CF only lasted a couple years. the only drawback to the final C3's is that Chev went both barrels into the injection molded plastic for the interior after '76...the beginning of GM's cheap feels interiors for the next 15-20 years...earlier C3's were all chromed and painted metal in the interior...much nicer

Nearly 30K? Performance wise wasn't the 82 considered a joke? From what I have seen and read, my 2016 Challenger SXT (V-6) out performs this model Vette. Can only imagine what a Mustang or Camero will do to it. I would say that it is a "looker", but the fit and finish in the early 80s were not the best. I suppose its value is do to its rareity.

Crossfire is Fuel Injection. It's computer controlled fuel injection. A different type of injection. ( PAGE 84 - Corvette Black Book. ) Two Throttle Body's spraying with a more precise pattern at 80 times per minute, the prior year was at 10 times per minute.
