Actually the best thing about being Elena Gilbert is the element of surprise because when she swiched off her humanity she switched off her humanity. And then all acting out was her way of telling everyone to stay the hell away. Like why couldn't they just leave her alone. The girl couldn't go anywhere without one salvatore brother whispering something to her. I mean she was 17, falling in deep love was not her priority and certainly trying to stay alive after she lost hwr family wasn't. She had to re learn living, re-learn the concept of life and suddenly she had vampires fighting for her attention. And she thought maybe the creatures who couldn't die were the best to bet on and maybe they have so much experience at living so they could make right decisions but no. Definetly no, one was a blood alcoholic and the other was crazy in love with a woman who had other important things going on. Her best decision after becoming a vampire was to think for herself and not about others feelings. How long did you expect from her to fight her feelings. Anyways, I enjoyed her character. But if she gotten more time by herself exploring the world and finding out what she wanted instead of just fighting against one enemy and other and flanked by salvatores and epic loves. I loved Bonnie got that chance in the end, to explore and lead a life outside of mystic falls.

First, Caroline is not that much stronger than Elena. By season 4 in The Vampire Diaries timeline Caroline had been a vampire only 2 years. And on top of that Elena was training to fight with Alaric so Elena had the advantage of being a better fighter
