Nothing like using low-cost solutions to achieve great results! In a society where everything is sold already made for every particular situation, it's refreshing to see people using intelligence to solve this situations with what they have available. I've done similar things multiple times, not because I didn't have the money but only because I knew I could do by myself.

I have been doing that for years! Not that I could not get the parts, but I had little money. One of my bikes was a 1978 Yamaha XT 500. I sold the bike with 90,000 U.S. miles, and I think I did that trick 2 times on that bike .Dual Sport/Dirt bikes are pretty hard on the cush rubber. I think I have done that on almost every Motorcycle I have owned, In the last 50 yrs. Even when I had the money to replace. I think using the 'Rubber Shims' can last longer than replacing with new!

I saw this comment about using bicycle tube. Today, I used slices from a 26x1.95 bicycle tube and stretched it over the large blocks . Perfect! Took all the slop out!

That’s what I did on my Yamaha XT660 ( they are known for rear Cush drive rubbers going around 20,000kms.

Great informative , to the point, entertaining vid! How long did the rubber inserts last? I have a 2011 bmw f800r with 62,000miles and its cush drive gave over half a centimeter of play.

Still going strong. No sign of deterioration when I last took the wheel out.

I have definitely not done this "maintenance" before selling on a bike (whistles innocently whist drinking a cuppa) 😅.
(actually works well and I would happily do it on my NC which I have no intention of ever selling)

I was thinking an aluminum shim, but this is better.

I can currently find the parts, but at about $120 for the set new. Replacing my bearings and sprockets. Mine has little play but definitely not as much as you had..
