    Once again thanks to your videos i repaired my bike. I was about to fit heated grips and noticed the throttle was sticking (not returning to idle). Took off the bars (short cables are a pain), pulled off the throttle casing and found hard gunk between plastic throttle casing and handlebar, quick clean and grease, works a bloody treat again. Heated grips fitted and connected, bobs your uncle. Thanks again for your precious tips.

    This video helped immensely not for throttle lubrication, but for throttle cable removal and reinstallation. I am installing 3" risers and needed to reroute the throttle cables beneath the triple clamp instead of the stock config. This video helped with that. These little videos that you make are very helpful for a variety of reasons, even if you think some of they are easy tasks lol. Thank you!

    HIya, I have just found that my throttle is spinning on my handlebars when the twist grip is closed, I searched on the web so I knew what to expect when I took it apart, and low and behold what did I find !! You have already done a video on the job so I learned about the locator tabs which must be my problem. I should have known you would have already done the job. Thanks again mate for an easy-to-follow video in great detail, I now feel more confident doing the job. Cheers.

    This is good stuff. I have owned my 750 for 3 months now. I have put over 5000 miles manly back and forth to work. Got about 1 and a half months left to my season. Then the bike will be put up for about 4 months. I know what the service manual says for scheduled maintenance. But, the bike will be sitting for 4 months. Might as well... Check valves, Lube cables, Change radiator fluid, pull and change front fork oil and rear shock oil. Take off all her bits and bobs and give her a detailed cleaning. If not she will feel neglected and unloved. Then she will be sad. :)

    That's excellent Adrian. I've done my clutch cable but I looked at all of that on the other end of the bar, with two cables, and went yeah.... nah! LOL. Haven't got back to it. One day :-) Thanks for the vid - I now have a visual reference to by. Your channel is like a workshop manual. :-)

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff

      Return Rider - the throttle cables are more enclosed than the clutch cable so don’t need to be done very often.

    As far as I'm aware, lubricating cables on a modern bike is no longer necessary as a result of PTFE liners, I consulted the FSM for my DL1000 and there's no mention of cable maintenance.

    • @kkfoto
      @kkfoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not listed on the NC750X maintenance schedule either. Unless the clutch or throttle feels sticky or has inconsistent operation, I would leave the control cables alone :)

    The best thing is it is a Honda and being Japanese it is made honestly and with little to no product obsolescence. They the manufacturers could have easily (and may do so) make this as a non serviceable component, incapable of being dismantled for service and selected component replacement. This seems to be the way manufacturers especially European brands are going. Want to change a cable or clip, you need to buy the rest and change as a WHOLE assembly.
    Being a Honda at least 1) it is capable of being dismantle for service 2) You can DIY with simple tools. 3) The components are so good it does not age.
    Have you seen some of the components manufacturers have done especially on cars? Commonly damaged or worn components such as interior door handles that are used all the time and prone to breaking have been sealed to the door cards, plastic welded and engineered to be interconnected with surrounding trims/parts to deter DIY. On top of that the plastics are self deteriorating to increase sales on parts and shorten the life of the product, rediculous.
    This bike and service provided is just the honest truth to maintain and upkeep an honest machinery.

    Mesmerizing...
    Intrigued by your choice of throttle lock. I can't decide which one to get.
    I use a palm paddle on the throttle grip but really need a locker. (Cruise control)

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edgar Bleikur - I’ve had this same unit on a number of bikes. I like it because it’s easy to lock and unlock, but when locked you can still move the throttle if required.
      The downside is it takes up grip space. Not so bad with a standard grip but with the heated grip cable it takes more room.

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daniel D - the throttle cable is pretty well enclosed so doesn’t need much attention. The clutch cable (if you don’t have the DCT) is more important to keep lubricated. 😃

    Hello there. Nothing to do with the video, wouldn't be nice a hydraulic remote rear shock since now and then you are carrying luggage? Since my wife don't ride and have to take her along... what's your thoughts about it ? Ride safe 👍👍👍

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff

      My biggest concern with the job is what kind lubricant to use. What made you choose silicon oil?

    • @stevensteel8617
      @stevensteel8617 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about the oil that comes out at the throttle? Also your grip just slid off. Don't you have the bar end weights any more? I thought the heated grips had to be cemented in place. I'm not criticising, just trying to understand.

    I am interested, why manufactors don't use electric trottle bar insted throttle cable.
    EFI has often electris throttle body, and operate with motors. For example on foreign cars electric pedal is normal and usual thing.
    Also they could do cruise control ...
    Thanks for the video

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BearScience-ru - it’s a cost issue. An electronic throttle requires a computer controlled throttle body as well as more expensive twist grip.

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff

      Well, if you are pedantic (like me) about maintenance you will know when.
      Otherwise when the throttle stops twisting or the clutch lever doesn’t move.

    Or you can take the cables off the throttle body, it's also 'fiddly' but you can leave the handle bars on.
    In case you do it like in the video the manual points out to tighten the handle bar clamp down bolts first the top and then the bottom with 22 Nm.
    Safe rides 👍🏍

      andree hammerschmidt - I’d like to see a video of getting to the throttle bodies and oiling the cables. Can you show us?
      That looks pretty daunting to me - and it would be going against gravity getting oil up the cables.

    • @Herzankerkreuz67
      @Herzankerkreuz67 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AfricaTwin-Stuff
      I might not have explained myself well enough. What I meant was to disconnect the cable at the throttle body to get enough freeplay but to oil the cable from the top as you pointed out correctly. Taking off the handle bars can lead to some nasty scratches if one does pay a lot of attention, also you might get air bubbles in you break reservoir since it might be turned upside down.
      Either way it take a moment to get the job done properly.
