Got 2 of them that I use as a marking knife for woodwork and for triming in my bookbinding. They really are great. Got mine after Paul Sellers recommended them years ago and would be lost without them. Going to go have a look at those Garryflex blocks later.
Only found out yesterday that Paul Sellers uses the same knife. Well I'm in good company then 👍 What did you think of the sharpening? Do you sharpen too?
@@twcmaker Yup, but I've been letting the blades get to the pont where I need to go to the stones. Using a strop more frequently is a much better approach which I'll be adopting from now on - got to get some use out of the huge block of polishing compound I've had for years as well 🤣plus (in theory at least) the blades should last a lot longer. Ordered a set of the Garryflex blocks from GC Abrasives (don't use Amazon on principle).
Brilliant, keep up the routine on the blades and they'll last forever. Thank you for supporting me Dave. Very much appreciated 👍 Keep the strop on the bench, it gets used so much more if its in front of you. And you'll be amazed by the Garryflex blocks 👌 Cheers. Jamie
Thanks for the video. I saw Paul Sellers say that these can be sharpened, and whilst I can sharpen chisels and planes accurately, I only seem to round over the blade with these and make them completely dull. Any suggestions?
Practice. Get someone to either watch you and advise. Or just ask them to video you doing it. That way you can watch it back and see where you went wrong. I watch my students as they do things like sharpening, stropping and cutting joints. And it's surprising just how you hold yourself can affect your performance
great -it is so easy just to throw things away when so much can be repaired
For a tiny amount of time too. Thank you. Jamie
Nice little knife.
And if you look after it, it'll last ages

I have one and like it. Mine only has the one screw. The end holing the action has a post which does not turn or drive out.
Is yours an older one then?
@@twcmaker I guess so
I've not seen an older one. Does it work the same way.
@@twcmaker yes, but it doesn't pivot as far, at least I never have been able to do that. The plastic guts look the same
Oh okay. 👍
